At the risk of being severely barked at, I have a question of those who put together and tested 5.3a. Ever since installing it, when in close dogfights with enemy a/c, particularly the new 109s, the cockpits seem to go transparent, so that I can see ground and air through the glass. I have also experienced this problem with the new 47, although not as badly as with the 109s. I tried playing as the 109 against spits and such, and it seems that the pre5.3 a/c are alright. I haven't tested all the permutations yet, so I'm not 100% though. I was just wondering if anyone else has seen this. (btw the 5.3a I'm running I got off FSHangar, if that helps with identifying different versions of it) I hate to bring this up in the middle of what one person has described to me upon my return as a "s*** fight", but I gotta ask because this is really, really killing the game for me. Please post screenshots of this. I wonder if is related to the graphical problems I've had with the Zero and the 190's lately. Polygon edges become transparent. Very strange. I did not post about this 'cause I thought my TNT drivers were buggy, but maybe there is another cause.IP: Logged |

"so that I can see ground and air through the glass." This isn't suppose to happen? ------------------

The OPPs guys put together the planepack.Everyone in the SDOE community tested it. Surprise!!! When we first released it we said it was beta and to please report any problems. The problems that were reported were fixed with the 5.3a patch. ------------------ Kopper Fortunae Nihil (Nothing to Chance) OPPs Making SDOE a Dangerous place. One plane at a time. IP: Logged |

..Whirl,What your experiancing is due to running out of texture memory. I personally have only experianced this is I have more than (6) six different "new-user-made" aicraft in a mission I would also bet that at one point or another you'll see an aircraft texture being substituted with one from a another object (I always seemed to have the "gun-hit" texture replace one or more textures. This is either a texture-limitation in either your vid-card or another memeory issue. (You want to see something really funky try putting 12 different aircraft into a mission. Talk about screwed textures!) [This message has been edited by Zurawski (edited 04-04-2000).] IP: Logged |

Zur is right. You are running out of texture memory.I first saw this problem when I made a mission with all the original planes(10). IP: Logged |

Razer - I guess I wasn't clear enough. Imagine looking top down at an aircraft through the canopy. Now imagine a glass floor. Does this explain it better?I'll try cutting back on the planes, I do get a bit overzealous, although I have 12Mb on my card... I kinda expected better performance (diamond monster fusion) Thanks guys, Werner ------------------ DOWNLOADS+PILOT ROSTER+FAN SITE INNOVATION=B.C.A.T.P. Visit Today! IP: Logged |

Werner, I don't know if this helps but I had the same problem you are having when I was flying missions with the new user made planes. I didn't say anything because I was thinking it was coming from my video card (voodoo 2, 12meg). I have since installed a GeForce card and I don't have the problem any more. Himdog out.IP: Logged |

OK ... I had some time lastnight (never did get online for a mission however) Made a mission with 2 each of the P47, Bf109K, Fw190D9, Yak-3, and the F4U (total 10 planes) Installed my "old" Pure3D voodoo1 ... tweaked the hell out of it ... and the results were: Some planes skins replaced with ground textures .. those same planes cockpits were "translucent" ... Flack was reduced to "black-squares" ... FPS = 12 (had to drop to three pair of planes to correct problem) Installed my "old" STB Nvidia TNT ...tweaked the hell out of it ... and the results were: Some planes skins replaced with ground textures .. those same planes cockpits were "translucent" ... FPS = 23 (had to drop to four pair of planes to correct problem) Re-Installed my Prophet3D SDR Geforce card: All ten planes diplayed perfectly ... FPS = 63 (tried adding the DVIII, which promptly caused the Bf109K to inherit the ground texture and FPS dropped to 57. So there ya have it ... nothing concrete, but a demonstration as to the what cards might perform in a like experiment. (hows that for vauge?) BTW ... test system is a PIII 500 128 meg'o ram [This message has been edited by Zurawski (edited 04-05-2000).] IP: Logged |

I've have had these problems as well. It does seem to be related to the amount of A/C in the mission. But with sometimes the same or greater amouts of A/C in 5.2 I didn't have this problem. I'm running a Voodoo 3 16 and I doubt that the problem is with the video cards. I guess its something you just have get use to. PsiIP: Logged |

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help.Spanky - delete my vid card cache? I didn't know it had one, I'll have to look. Or is this some other cache? Werner ------------------ DOWNLOADS+PILOT ROSTER+FAN SITE INNOVATION=B.C.A.T.P. Visit Today! IP: Logged |
