This took we far longer than I expected but I think is was work it. Fancis 'Gabby' Gabreski's last P-47.

www.fshangar.com

This version has the 28 kill markings and carries the intermediate invasion stripes that the aircraft sported for a few weeks in early July '44). Later that month the upper white stripes were removed, the lower ones being retained until the aircraft's loss when Gabby crash landed after damaging the prop whilst strafing an enemy airfield.

Here's another take on the same plane from later in July '44 although the many pictures I have dispute the positioning of the invasion stripes on the upper fuselage.

I've already finished Fred Christensen's Miss Fire / Rossie Geth II and sent it off to 'The Hangar'.

Yes the model pic is from Hyperscale. The paint program I use is Paintshop Pro 5 (because I don't need anything more complicated). However I also use Extensive Research 3 and LoadsaPatience 8 rather a lot

Here's a few pics for you from my aircraft markings book. Can't help you with the lack of top surface detail but I guess you could adlib your way through.

Wow...I would like to see what you could do if you get proficient with Photoshop or Photo-Paint. I tried PSP back along time ago, but then I bought Corel. I took about a year of on and off again trying to figure it out...but once I did, my productivity soared. If you do that good with Paint Shop Pro, I commend you.

The ability to create and save masks is one thing that I cannot live without. Plus, the clone tool comes in real handy. The new effect tools in Photo-Paint 9 help alot too. Combine the effects with the ability to manipulate a mask like a bitmap and you can create wonderful effects that do not take a long time.

Granted, I still do most of my work pixel by pixel, but I do use a lot of the tools that are available.

Dan, I don't know if you used an earlier version of PSP, but the more recent ones are pretty feature rich (granted not a good as some of the larger professional packages). I use layers extensively along with the clone brush and blending controls. I don't use masks other than for reflections but some of the effects come in handy. PSP may lack some of the more fancy plug-ins and effects but over all I think it is adequate for the sort of work I do.

No, I haven't tried any recently. I guess one you get proficient with something, its hard to switch from it!

Spanky here..

PSP is highly underated. I love it.
I remeber retouching my first screen shot.
with it. Lara croft standing in a cave in #2.
I totally erasered her and there was no evidence she was ever there.

Lots of clone and smudge.

Kicked ass.

What do you mean by lack of fance plugins?
If you guys didn't know this PSP is fully compatable with photoshop plug ins.

Everyone I have tried has worked.

Yeah for sure Dan I wouldn't switch. But to anyone looking for a new paint program at least try the demo for #6.

It comes with animation shop 2 and it now does vector graphics which is looking really cool.

I just got the book for PSP 6 so I have tons of stuff to try.

Well I'm glad Yardstick uses PSP, otherwise he couldn't have given me those
step by step instructions and I wouldn't be able to produce half decent
Hurricane Skins like I can now.

I've done probably 3-4 now that would've looked like utter crap with out
Yardsticks advise and help,

Thanks Yardstick!

BTW I haven't posted any of them yet but I will soon. They're not as good as
the masters but the student isn't doing too bad for someone without artist
ability

I actually havn't sent out any of the ones I made after Yardsticks advice.

Any good Hurricane skins you have now are probably Yardsticks work.
