K guys, I just thought of this so if its not perfect don't get mad. Part of the problem with new planes is. That some people want to keep their planes, only on their own site. I can understand why but people don't want to have to go to each guys site for the planes. Its a HUGE hassle. Anyway. What about this, (i'm not a web programmer but i think its possible) We have a online standard page. Thats all its for and its hosted on www.fightersquadron.com All it is, is a link site. It has links to ALL the planes. People can keep there planes in there site but no making people visit that site to get it. Maybe just a link to the page with the plane but don't make them surf around to find it. Go directly to the right page. Have this site update able by the plane makers. Some sort of thing where you submit a form and it updates the page automaticly. When you release a new version of your plane you upload it to the page and submit a short form stateing the changes. Then if people want to use all the newest planes they will just goto. www.fightersquadron.com/online It will have all the latests planes. If you want to see if your up to standard just go there and look. Compare the versions of planes you have to that master list. If you knew you were good on the 3rd of april and its now the 10th, download any thing that has been updated. So would have a little running news thing telling of the new updates and planes and what changed and a master list of all the planes and all of them uptodate. This would be where everyone get their planes. If you release a new plane or update you tell people on the forum. BUT you don't post it for DL on the forum. Post it on the online standard page. So everyone knows where to get it and knows they are getting the latest version. IP: Logged |

I *THINK* I can lay my hands on a nice CGI program that will allow users to upload their planes, and keep a database of all plane entries. I'll look into this. If MH doesn't want to (or can't) have this set up, I could whip up a page on Virtualave.------------------ Cheers! Jaguar The FS Hangar IP: Logged |

Jaguar, MH said I could have CGI scripts on my site, but he will have to set them up. After that, we are responsible for them. Do you want me to ask?------------------ Thanks, James "Razor747" Smith Check out the SDOE Flight Line! I am constantly adding new things. Click on image above to go to my site.

Raptor2; Very nice job!! Yours and Nat's site hold much promise for bringing this together. I'd like to make a suggestion, though, if it's ok?When organizing these sites and add ons and packs, maybe make a mention of " This is not a standard ", or " This is required for online play. " after the descriptions. Much like Tailslide did at his site back when spins, stalls, smoke, and stunts were first being added. For instance, when linking to Plane Pack 5.3 and 3a, a note: 5.3a required for online play to avoid mismatches. When linking to the Fokker DVII, or F4U, or any plane or plane patch that is not a part of the Plane Pack, a note: not required for online play - may cause mismatches with some missions. What do you think? A viable idea? ------------------ nealg=FC=

Also, I noticed at Combatsim, on the EAW forum, they have linked at the top of the thread pages to "Recommended EAW Addons". This takes you to a post listing the various updates and add ons that have been created and used by the community. It prompted me to re-install EAW and try it out again after a long absence, and I have to say I was up to speed with ECA, ECA PANEL 3, ECAOnline 1.21, some nice terrain and skins, a really cool EAW Control 2000 program by some guy who seemed familiar... ...anyway, it sure made it easier. The creators sites were well linked and included explanations and help.Couldn't this be done by linking here to the online standard portion of fightersquadron.com ( mentioned once or twice by Zoycite, hehe ) at the top of all the thread pages? Then including there all the links to the Plane Pack and add ons, with explanations of what is considered necessary ( 1.5 patch, 5.3 and 3a ) and what is not for online play. Does that fit in with your idea, Spanky? ------------------ nealg=FC=

nealg: I took your good idea into consideration and added it to http://PlaneCentral.tripod.com For a deffinate check, is the 1.5 Beta5 official (required) patch for online play? Tell me what you think... ------------------ Raptor2

Spanky here.. That fits somewhat neal, But the treads always get huge and I thought a page that could self update would be pretty cool. You would just send the newbies or oldies having problems to that page. Then maybe Zoy and spyder and me (hope i didn't forget anyone) can fix up and revise the online standard doc. IP: Logged |

Raptor2; Yes!! Great!! If I were coming fresh to your site as a newbie, that way of putting it would help me tremendously! Thanks, and I'm glad my idea helped you. I think, though, that the Beta5 patch is not standard; only the official 1.5 patch. It is what I am using ( though I did test the beta5 patch some time ago ).Spanky; Gotcha. A self-updating page is a great idea - I guess I didn't understand that it was possible. Cool. It would prove invaluable. And if Serval is successful with his crc-checker in Ground Crew ( I imagine that will be a chore! ) then we would be on the right track, I think. Thanks for listening to my ideas, guys! ------------------ nealg=FC=

I assure you, I had no ulterior motives...it really is a good program, particularly for EAW...but, gee, if it should ever happen that you have me lined up for that perfect six shot and you suddenly remember that note you forgot to write to that girl in 10th grade....well, I would understand. I am just glad you were able to provide these utilities for both sims...Thanks!!

Spanky here... So whats up? Does anyone want to do this or what? Friggin warez guys do it all the time, yes they are more organized then we are. An self updating page. I would do it but I don't know how. I thought we had a couple full time web masters around here. You set it up on some free web space and walk away. No baby sitting. I thought some guy or guys here were involved in fightersquadron.com's webpage design? If they have the permission then it should be able to be done. Won't take an age, just a database table of planes, that updates when uploaded to. Just think Spanks, you could put your warez on it too! ------------------ IP: Logged |

I have wanted to see this done since the days of Pete Hawks board and in fact have coded several web applications to make it possible. I have also volunteered to do this stuff for free for the Fighter Squadron / inertia web site on the mere basis that it would make the fighter squadron community more productive. Seeing as I had never heard back from my offers from MH I have in the past put together several Fighter Squadron web sites just to test my code and provide easier accessability for 3DGW readers to Fighter Squadron Goodies. I started a site called simfiles that I haven't fully launched that allows authors to upload their creations via a web interfacet so they are available for public consumption. I did this as I am an avid gamer in many different communities and get frustrated when a truly awesome creation is released by some talented bloke who is spending their weekend wrestling with Xoom to keep the file hosted for more than 4 minutes at a time. To get to the point withour rambling (I guess I have been doign that).I invite you all to come to my Simfiles web site at www.3dgw.com/simfiles and look around and feel free to e-mail me with any suggestions that you might have. The whole site is created from content drawn from a mysql database using php on linux. For other examples of SDOE stuff I have never finished you can drop over to www.3dgw.com/sdoe /rant IP: Logged |

Spanky the Pinko, Now thats what i was talking about. Can you get it a little more structured? You could do something like this on fs.com as soon as you hook up with MH right? thats the shit. And a little spot under each plane or a runnng list of news so people know whats new about the plane would be great. This is pretty much exactly what I was talking about man.

dogma, I don't recall getting such an offer for you, perhaps your email went astray or I misunderstood? At any rate, if you or anyone else has some tested CGI that is safe and relatively easy to set up, please let me know. Any of our hosted sites can be CGI enabled, but I'm not interested in opening up any major security holes. IP: Logged |
