I have a feeling tonight when I lower my fog settings I'll find all my texture problems go away (thank you Tailslide, Spyder, Mighty and Bulldog1). When it works, and I feel like an idiot for throwing the fog slider all the way out thinking it was okay, I'll gladly admit I was wrong for blaming any of the fine add-on's to the game. But then I'll still need to know... How far out is a reasonable distance to push the fog? What are your fog settings? IP: Logged |

I don't think there is a magic number. It depends on the system. By trial and error you just find the furthest distance that doesn't bog down your system. From past posts it seems to be around 10 or 11 for the average system. I think Spanky has said he keeps his at 5 for online. Online requires a lower fog number than off line from what I gather.IP: Logged |

I'm not sure the fog setting matters for online. From what I've heard/been told the only data that is sent online are a/c positions, weapons' fire and weapon effects. All permanent textures, like terrain, are kept on the individual PC's.Am I talking bollocks? Yes, I am. If fog setting causes low frame-rates on a PC that will appear as lag on all the other PC's. Yes folks, there ARE two kinds of lag, despite what I keep hearing to the contrary. Anyone want to argue about it? C'mon, I'll have the lot of ya! IP: Logged |

I always have my fog set at 5 miles.. why? Cause it looks best, I think that if you look out on a clear day over most anny part of Europe, or the world for that matter, 5 miles is about your max, then the natural haze (fog) comes in... I hate that plain lookin world in SDOE when the fog is further back than this, other than that, the Snowy Terrains (Dover and Rhineland) looks awesome at 5 miles fog... it almost glows with the snowy shinning through it

Spanky here.. I run my fog at 5. I think thats how the game is setup stock. Siggi I do that for online cause it helps you get higher frame rates. I need all the FPS I can get and online is always worse then offline for FPS. IP: Logged |

Nat, I hate to disagree but here in Oregon on a clear day (not that we get that many ) you can see 50 miles down the Willamette Valley from a thousand feet up, and Mount Rainer in Washington which is 120 miles away.IP: Logged |

Yup, I'm a freaking idiot! I set the fog too far out and it was the source of all my woes. Thanks to all who helped me see the error of my ways.IP: Logged |
