I was wondering what the online standard regarding the "headshake" option was. Do most of you fly with it on or off? Personally, I like to fly with it on as I feel that it adds to the realism of the game. However, it does make it much harder to get kills, at least for me. I was thinking that there should be an option when starting an online game to enable/disable headshake. Just like there is the option to enable/disable the HUD, regeneration, etc.. If you've ever played Rainbow Six online there is an option for allowing/disallowing auto aim. It just keeps things fair.

Also, about regeneration, I wish there were an online option to allow for a LIMITED number of regens. Say, one or two per player. This would make the online game MUCH more satisfying for people like me who are out of practice or don't have much time to play per session. It is EXTREMELY frustrating to wait five to ten minutes for a game to start, only to crash your 109 into a hangar and be left SOL for the whole game. It feels like wasted time.

Maybee it's too late to write this stuff into the game. Perhaps these are things that could be agreed upon by everyone before starting a game. I know, I know, agreed upon rules are hard to enforce. However, I assume most of the guys playing SDOE online are over 13 years old and can be trusted, so the honor system just might work. I've wanted to suggest regens before, but I'm afraid that all the pro's will scream at me to go play Fighter Ace or something. Hey, I don't want to dumb down the game, I just want it to feel worth it and fair.

Thankya,

Squeehee

Fairs points made here. I too like to set regen to on especially if its going to be a straight furball. It is annoying to spinout, crash ect and then wait ages to get "another go" I know this sim is seen by some as "hardcore" and don't like to use anything that spoils the realism.....But many like it as a game...a mild diversion from the mundanity of everyday life...and, don't necessarily have hours to spend on line. It would be nice to have an open arena on a server where you could just join at anytime, enjoy the graphics and atmosphere of the game, dogfight around abit and then leave. Rather than feeling like you have to don goggles and a white scarf in order to compete with the hardcore element that this game attracts.....Does that put people off this game or is it the annoying bugs.
I don't mean to put down the hardcore flight-simmers that after all keep this game going....but it is a game after all.

Regen is fun once in awhile but it usually goes something like this

-Player #1 kills Player #2
-Player #2 regens above player #1
-Player #2 Kills Player #1
-Plyaer #1 regens above player #2

Repeat until bored

Spanky here..

I'm not to fond of regen. Just gets boring but I can see your point.

Tailslide and me in a regen dogfight.

TS kills me
TS kills me
TS kills me
TS kills me
TS kills me
TS kills me
I almost get on his ass and then TS kills me
then
TS kills me
TS kills me
TS kills me
TS kills me
I clip his wing with some cannon rounds and he smokes a bit. then i lose him, TS kills me
TS kills me
TS kills me
TS kills me
I crash into him trying to avoid, I now have one kill. we regen and
TS kills me
TS kills me
TS kills me

then i thank him for the ass kicking and go to bed to sulk.

ROF!

Well at least you die "fighting" ...

[Zur's manifest] ...

Zur banks to hard and spirals into the ground
Zur banks to hard and spirals into the water
Zur stalls and spirals into the ground
Zur stalls and spirals into the water
Zur flys slow and level and get hosed by a newbie
Zur flys flow and level and get hosed by newbie "again"
Zur stalls out on take-off and flops on his back
Zur warps into the aircraft he "finally" get in his sites and dies
Zur flies one last mission and fights like a "man possessed" ... happy with that mission he goes to bed satisfied.

I think this is the first time I found myself LOL at a post. Thanks Spanky and Zur for those humorous (and personally shared) recounts of a normal online experience.
I agree with Squee abit on this and other topics people seem to say about allowing or not allowing certain things in the game. Not having the HUD in a game is hard for me, because although it's not real for a WWII plane, neither is it real to have to find the F9 key to look down at my instruments (that are a bit hard to read anyway) in order to find my altitude or airspeed. The use of Padlock is another situation I think might be considered "wrong" for realism, but in real life, I can turn my neck and follow an A/C (maybe not 180 degrees behind me, but close to it) whereas using snapviews isn't anymore realistic in that I'm limited to looking at exact angles only. It isn't real to fly in a computer sim, on my flat 15" monitor at least, and some things should be allowed to make up for that.
I do love this game. Quick question for anyone, what determines your status on these posts? I'm a cadet, others are Pilots. What decides that (I am a cadet and am not argueing, just want to know).

Those are great accounts of on-line flight.

Qtip: Fortunately, a rating of cadet or piolt has nothing to do with skill. Othewise my status would be 4F. The ranking is just based on the number of posts you make. At some magical number you will be field promoted to pilot.

Zoydar - zoy-dar (n.)

Definition: The ability to find Zoycite in a hudless 16 player game and crash into him five games in a row.
