I noticed that there is a file named Sdopengl.dll in my FS directory. I am almost certain that opengl is not supported, am I wrong? Also, I am using an AMD-K6-2 500, 128 RAM, 32mb Diamond SIII video card. It is very difficult for me to get more than 15-18 FPS at any resolution (it will actually run faster at 1600x1200 than 800x600). Any help would be great.BTW Great work everybody. The Contest, the community, the game, etc...:-) IP: Logged |

Spanky here... Yes i think you can run in GL but i thought you had to use the beta patch to do it. I don't think it performs very good. I'm not sure what chip is on that card you have but that is a really low FPS, What settings do you have it on? Are object and texture sliders all the way up? Clouds on? Turn some stuff off I would suggest. Make sure no other programs are running in the background. I would say the week point in your system is the Vid Chip and then the CPU. You will have to do every tweak possible to pull the most performance out of your system with that CPU. IP: Logged |

To run the OpenGL version start the game with the /ROpenGL switch (either by tagging it onto the end of a shortcut or from a DOS prompt. There are other switches. Using /W open the game in a window and not full screen. If you use the /h switch a dialog box appears with more options. Not sure what they do - try at your own risk! Thanks for the info Spanky...Is my CPU that bad? My video card is the Diamond Stealth III S540 (Savage 4). All detail sliders are far right (engaged), but changing these settings usually does not affect the FPS for some reason... Thanks again... Spanky here.. Well its a great CPU if you don't need good floating point. While doing some reasearch for Mad Dog I read reviews and some comarisons bettweeen K6 2s and p2s While a k62 450 beats this P2 266 in most areas there is one area that it doesn't Floating point. The Floating point in this p2 266 is better then at least a k62 400 if I remember correctly. Based on that finding he is scrapping the idea of building a K6 system. and he had just bought a new motherboard. You can get a chip cheap but its just not worth it. I used to think the K6 was the cheap way to get a decent system. And I think AMD is a great company. I would and was planing on buying a K7 but I just don't have the money. I have decided that a Celeron is the better choice. So he is going to try and sell that Motherboard and by a P2/p3 board. Then he can go with a cel on a slocket adapter or buy a used or new P2/p3. The performace of the savage 4 just does't seem up to the task either. But others may know more about that since I don't know alot about it. IP: Logged |

Isn't there an ini. file setting for K-6's that improves performance? I know it's available in SDOE Control. Not sure what it does. IP: Logged |

Feyd, there may be a chance that I can help you out, some time ago I posted about a program that I found easy to use, and for some ppl greatly improves the performance of the AMD chip by opening the Linear Frame Buffers etc to setting that you specify, some found it very good, others noticed no difference, alot depends on your m/board, but it certainly wont hurt to try...the d/l for the prog, and the messages are here.... http://www.fightersquadron.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000975.html Starngely though, I used SiSoft Sandra Professional to test my AMDK62 500 (they are a very well renowned system benchmarking utility maker) and my K62500 benches on MIPS faster than a P3500 and equal to a K63500, and only very slightly slower on MFLOPS than the P3500 (running the CPU Benchmarking utility and then the CPU Multimedia Capabilities) I think the AMD500 is pretty good at that for the money. Spankey, I agree though, to get the best out of an AMD system (K62/3 atleast) you really need to know what your doing and where to tweak, otherwise.. well, you see the result in the initial topic right. ------------------ JV~44 "Naturlich" If you can't beat em.... out run em! there again, you could go buy a shiny new F4U, and kick some butt!!!
