Okay, I've loaded a few of the contest aircraft so far, the Corsair, Zero, and P-47.
I'm running FM5.3a.

I went back into an old mission and the cloudy day had squares instead of clouds. I thought it may be because I made the mission long ago, "Codebook", maybe before the v1.5 patch. I went into the Mission Editor and resaved it. Same deal - square clouds. I changed the day to clear but then when I started taking flak it was diamonds and ground explosions were wierd too. I went into a second mission, user created about the same time frame and all was well. I went into another mission I created, "Re-Supply", right after Codebook and all was okay with clouds, flak, explosions.

Who can explain this? What can I do to get "Codebook" to run properly? At first I thought it was due to the startup.ppf but the fact that my other mission run fine has got me stumped.

Speedbrake (long time! )

Is this the mission where you have to land in the field and recover the documents from a downed plane(yes, I remember)?

If so, I had this problem when you first released the mission. I dont remember if I ever figured it out, but the one suggestion I have heard for this type of problem is to delete your sdoecache.tex file from the media directory. This file occassionally will get corrupted. It will then take a while when you enter each theatre.

Hope this helps...

Ugh ...

The texture "blocks" are asesult of running out of texture memory ...

As I don't know the mission ... I'm going to assume you have four or more "types" of aircraft in the mission ... one or more of them is not an original plane (user made one) ...

...Am I warm?

Esox is correct that "sometimes" deleting the texture cache files fixes this however, it's mainly due to the amount of textures being caches in relation to what your vid-card can handle ... that is the culprit.

Thanks guys! I knew i would get some suggestions from this great group.

Esox - I've never left the Forum, I've just been a silent observer and on occasion making an input. Also, I've been spending a lot of time with Jane's F/A-18. But with all the new contest aircraft - whao! I've downloaded over 40 MB of "stuff" over the last few days....!

Okay guys - I fixed it with your suggestions! Esox - the sdoecache.tex didn't have anything to do with it - but it was a good suggestion. Zoy - your suggestion about a user created aircraft didn't have anything to do with it either - but it got me thinking. The new version of some of the aircraft have higher rez skins and as you said there might be a texture overload. I dumped a couple of the "scenic" aircraft parked on the ramp or taxiways but still left a few. BINGO! That did the trick - it is back to nomral and it felt good flying that mission once again.

Thanks for your suggestions again!

Speedbrake, since I remember you from Hornet Korea, I should have known you'd be flying FA18 Me too.

Would you be so kind as to post or email me that mission? I enjoyed it, but it is long gone from my hard drive.

Thanks,
