Spanky here... HAHAA will it ever end. I think the monthly time is up again to bug for some sort of patch. Specialy when we here they have been playing with it and rolled in speed optomizations and Online damage fixes along with anything else from before. PLEASE REALSE IT. Either that or SOS.

I am patient, but even I am tired of crashing to desktop on-line.Also I want the dawn missions, etc. We need this patch very soon... the beta seems so good. Many will do more beta testing if need be. ------------------

As far as beta build 65 is concerned it doesn't seems to address the major issues i.e. desktop crashes and damage recognition. We have been testing it for the last 2 Sundays on UK1 and desktop crashes are still a common feature whilst the damage bug is as prevalent as ever.Personally I see no reason to continue using it given the graphical artefacts that go with it. But we do desperately need a patch that addresses the above issues. ------------------

I would love to see a new PP as it is getting very confusing as to what Planes are out, what you should have for on-line play,where to get the stuff etc.I'm a new pilot (6 months) and I am concerned that there seems to be no central resource for downloading ALL fixes, A/C available. I see a section in this web page that has a download title but when I go there I don't see half the stuff that's being talked about or already released in the general section.
I love SDOE, THERE IS NO ALTERNATIVE but if you guy's ever want to attract new players I really do think someone should make sure all current downloads regardless of beta or patch are listed in an easily accessible and visable area, and as far as I can see we have the resources and the areas to designate we just don't manage them effeciently. I hope most of you understand that for the average gammer the skill level does in no way match the skill set of the current core group of programmers here at SDOE, and like me even downloading patches and new A/C can be a daunting task. I Love this Sim and even better I LOVE the expectations set for this sim -
Just thought you guy's might want a newbie perspective.

pppppppplllllleeeeeeeaaaaaaassssseeeeeeeeeeeI and many others have been saying it for about a year now: THIS GAME HAS SOOOOO MUCH POTENTIAL, however to access a lot of this potential, we need a patch!! And also, I agree with Bulldog1 in regards to the scattering of files... makes it hard for newbies and potential flyers to get started and up to speed. ------------------

Spanky here... Yep VERY good point PR. I really hope MH doesn't think we are coming down on him though. Thats not it at all. Its just the damage bug especialy is pushing people away. And the less people into FS the less people into any sims from inertia in the future. All these guys have poured there heart and soul into this sim. Heck i Have maybe no planes but enough other stuff to add up. We have all done are part. We are all trying to prove that this sim is up to the challenge against CFS, EAW, WW2 Fighters. Which in some ways it doesn't But SDOE beats all the rest hands down in the bug department. We have fixed its bad rep and Bad FM but there is nothing we can do about the Damage bug and stuff. Spanky here.. Oh yeah. Forgot all about that. Yes the files need to be gathered together. I'm a somewhat seasoned vet now and i find it hard to find everything i want after redoing windows and going on the hunt for everything again.

Count me in too...it does no good to generate all this new interest into the game if after a week or so people become so discouraged that they leave again! Not that I will be one of them...but newbies might not be so understanding! And besides, any way to improve the immersiveness of mission building would be great for me...SOS could literally open up many new features...maybe a Sun...or at least a night sky with towns lit up below? We'll never know until we try...but we can't try until we have the tools...IP: Logged |

Okay....sign me up. I try not to pressure MH about free labor, but a patch would be wonderful. If not the patch, then the source code so the community could make the patch.PS- I have a fantasy of winning the lotto, buying the rights to SDOE and the code, and then releasing it all to the public domain. I'm certainly for it. Wonder what ever happened those times when we were told we'd have a new patch within a week or so.
Of course we all know MH is doing (or not doing) this on his own time, and not getting payed for it. And we all know that he doesn't _have_ to do it. But it sure as hell would be nice, esp. since we've been "promised" a new patch. I wonder if Mighty is allowed to chip in for a new patch?With the new Plane Pack, and all the new contest planes, all the wonderful things that are going on in SDOE, it sure would be niced if some of the fundamental problems of the game's engine were fixed. Right now, that is the one thing we cannot change, fix, or add to ourselves. Besides, this is _his_ "baby" and PR made a good point about all the work the modellers, painters and FM guys have been putting in, free of charge--and many of them have busy schedules. More people are being attracted to SDOE as they see what can be done with it, only to encounter the same problems we've been plagued with for the last year. Sure, we can't count on Activision. The patch is still being worked on as I can get time in.I'm integrating our current engine changes and working out some bugs in the glide renderer. Your next question will of course be "when?"

I have this weird theory. The guys at Wayward were worried that a re-emergent SDoE might scupper their sales of B17-2."How can we deal with this threat to our sales?" they mused. "I know!" cried one bright, and rather ruthless cad. "MH has promised a new patch, in the next couple of weeks. Let's kidnap him and replace him with our own MH. Then we'll perpetually delay the patch, leave SDoE crippled online with it's glaring damage-patch problem and crashes to desktop, tell the suckers making new planes to get lots of newbies interested by telling them SDoE is about to be sorted out, and sit back to watch the shit hit the fan when nothing at all is actually done. We'll chuck them the occasional excuse and explanation, just to keep the ruse going. B17-2 will prosper mightily!" This idea was approved. I know you aren't keeping a new patch up on a shelf somewhere just to be mean. You do not go to a box and take a cup of magic fix and sprinkle over your hard drive and all the little bugs go away. I would like to see the patch too. I am sure you would like to get it out to us. I am sure it will be a good one when you release it. Michael, can you give us a hint as to what we can expect to see with the new patch. If B172 did take the real MH who is going to fly to Bristol with me to get him back.
We will take nuums F2b since it has guns and a back seat. BTW Michael only gets one vote in the contest...so I am not sucking up. Just thought someone should explain what happens on the other side of the fence. I mean it is either this or B172 did get to him. ------------------

I think its past time for patches and more the time for a completely new game. The 'builder' and modifier community is getting very proficient at OpenPlane aircraft and the like. The enthusiasm can't last forever. I realize that it takes years to develop and release a sim, but at least an announcement or something to that effect would keep some interest going.Even a civilain sim like MS Flightsim would work be an awesome companion to Openplane. Spanky here... I personally don't want a date. I want a patch. What I mean by that is don't give us a date until you can release it. We have heard too many "next friday" "In a week or so" "probably after the weekend" and such. I don't need my hopes raised for nothing. Let him tell us when it will be out when he posts it. I would like one thing though. That shouldn't take too much work at all. I'm wondering which bugs have been patched. A list of the bugs that have been squashed would be pretty cool. We could all be waiting for a patch that doesn't even fix what we were hopeing. Damage bug?
Bomb Bug?
Ground units bug?
The disapeering props and missing wings showing up?
The mission send bug?
The screen res bug with glide?
The screen shot bug with glide in 1024x768?
The MS FF joystick problems?
Any speed or use optamizations? Namely the Showing ongoing games and poly speed stuff mentioned before. I'm sure you guys can list some of the other bugs in the game. Every time I fly online with a new guy I have to explain that the weird effect that he is seeing is in fact a bug in the game.

It's been way too long, fact not opinion...that's just my opinion, har har.
I'm not bothered, to tell the truth. I don't fly SDoE either online or offline. The only reason I come here is to hang-out in a great community. That's the only thing SDoE has for me. I'm quite content to hang here with the guys and await B17-2, no worries. If B17-2 falls on it's face I'll probably give-up on sims and check out the scene again a few years further down the road.
But, MH, there are a lot of guys here who have busted their arses on this sim. Not only have they raised it's standard, they have also championed it on the WWW.
You seem to attatch little importance to the fact that the patches you promised are way overdue, way way way overdue. It shows them little regard and does no service to your future work...you will be judged by the fate that befalls SDoE.
"It'll be done when it's done" is hackneyned and trite. It's time to shit or get off the pot. If you aren't up to the job tell these guys so they can stop wasting their time waiting for you to honour your promises and get-on with fixing it themselves. Raider is right. I program for a living and it's true. Bugs have to be squashed by the try this ... didn't work etc. etc. method. It can be very frustrating at times. I'm for giving MH a break here and wait patiently for the fixes. I play this game for fun. That's what a game is all about.
