I put together a mission with Doras and P-47s. (Damn, I love that Thunderbolt!) The two planes really seem to be a good match for each other due to their fire power and turning radius. Both planes had a hard time getting on each others tail. Though the roll rate on the Dora is much better, the P-47 is faster and can out run it. And they both have great fire power. Btw, I took a Dora from a dead stop up to 26,000' with a 30 degree rate of climb, full flaps, and it never stopped climbing! At 15,000' it actually gained speed from 120 knots to 145. This was done after the mission and the only thing that stoped it from climbing higher is that it ran out of gas. Gees! That monkey can climb!------------------ (Kill'em All, Sort'em out Later ) -=BAB=- Gunner

The FM that is in 5.3a for the Dora is a long way from correct. Somehow an old build slipped into the release and the zoom climb and top speed are way down on what they should be. I have got a recent build from Zur and the Dora is much more of a match now for the P-51D. As for the P-47D - well I wouldn't want to be flying one if it got jumped by a pack of hungry d-9s ------------------ Yardstick painted this

Yards correct,Actually ... in hindsight ... Based on some new information and OPStudio "discoveries" ... ... I "PLAN" to re-FM all the 109s, the DORA, the P-38J, and continue enhancing the P47D ... Let's just say if I can pull this off ... "THESE" planes will be ever-so-much closer to "fidelity" ... than any past revisions. (I also have it from a reliable source ... Tailslide does plan to rest on his laurels either!) IP: Logged |

Yep! A beta of a new 190A4 is out and I plan to update the spits with seperate fuel tanks for better ground handling and help zur with the p38j which still needs alot of attention. Hopefully after all the speed at alt and climb rates are worked out we can get together online and get the turn rates comparatively right in time for the next plane pack. TS

Yep.. I'd appreciate any testing and feedback on it. It's on the OPP forum http://firelight.dynip.com/oppforum under "flight models" Here's the list of updates: FW190a Mods - 5.4 beta 1 --------------------------------- Set seperate fuel tank objects according to: "The gatefold book of WorldWar II Warplanes" by Barns & Nobels books --------------------------------------------- "Fuel was held in two self-sealing tanks located under the pilots seat, separated by a rear spar tie-though member. The forward tank held 193 liters (51-gal) while the rear tank held 242 liters (64-gal)" Set chord values based on: The Best of the Breed Airpower, July, 1976 Vol. 6 No. 4 by Col. "Kit" Carson Root chord, ft. 7.45 Tip chord, ft. 4.05 Dihedral, degrees 5 Sweepback, degrees 5.5 Changed sweepback of wings to approx 5.5 degrees (3d model needs rotation back 5 degrees) Verified dihedral at approx 5 degrees Moved CG back to taste (CG not known) Added inertia boxes for gear struts Removed washout from wingtips to simulate instability caused by inflexible wing on 190 Changed prop to prop airfoil

... Bryan,No.. no bugs ... Just "different" ways of doing things that makes us FM'rs sigh a sigh of releif! HOWEVER ... We still have the problem with OPStudio forgetting obProbs' and screwing the opening canopy DOFS ... (yeah I know you're fixing it ... I just needed to say it one more time) Again, I'd like to thank-you for all the work you've done with/for us ... It's truly appreciated! (Bet you never thout OPS would become the FM'rs favorite tool, did ya?) IP: Logged |

Just for grins, I tried it again, (with plenty of feul this time). She topped out at 42,200' at close to 11 minutes. I shut'er down and feathered the prop, and deadsticked it to a nice landing. The whole thing took about 20 minutes. It may not be acurate, but its a fun challenge to get to a field and land without denting the ship.------------------ (Kill'em All, Sort'em out Later ) -=BAB=- Gunner
