Hey, if you guys haven't checked the contest forum lately, better go look at it.

INSTRUCTIONS posted there for how you actually ENTER your planes. Just putting em up for download doesn't count apparently. You need to upload em via FTP, (and we might need a couple of website volunteers to do that for some of the guys?)

Anyway, go read MH's message on "How to Enter" in the contest forum...

Jedi, heres an off topic question because this topic is uncrowded.

The American birdcage corsair shows up black. All the wings are black but the cockpit and canopy are fine. When I enter the game I can see the textures about the load (all fuzzy) and then they go all black. I tried re-installing all the textures for it but no luck.

Also when you put all 4 corsairs in one mission they all have the same skin and shape but they have their seperate loadouts.
ie. the Corsair MkII appears as an F4u1 but it has one bomb on one of the pylons. Whats up with that? Can you have only one type of Corsair in each mission? I think it has something to do with sharing the textures.
Thanks
Snake

Hmmm. I tried to put multiple Corsairs in one mission, but they all used the same skin. I'm not sure why this would be. I might try changing the names of the skins and the file refs to see if that works.

I did check the .tif files before the last upload, and they were the correct files (i.e. they look like a birdcage Hog).

If you're into modifying files, you might try renaming the two .tif files as something unambiguous, like bchog1.tif and bchog2.tif. Then you'll have to modify those file references in the .sm file using either OPS or extractor/builder. You'd need to modify both the name of the texture and the texture definition section.

I don't know about the black color. I'll try putting the zipfile into my game and see if it looks wrong.

You DID download either the FixF4U.zip file or redownload the individual F4u1.zip file, right? There is a problem with any birdcage you may have gotten prior to about 2200 EST last night.

The Corsair II and F4U-1 are earlier versions of the plane, and my data indicates only a single hardpoint under the fuselage for heavier bombs like 500 or 1000 lbs. The Corsair II can carry 1x1000-lb and the F4U-1 can carry 1x500-lb. (I'm open to data that suggests otherwise tho...)

Upon further investigation, it appears you were correct. The missions apparently read the information inside the .sm files, not just the name of the .sm file. Since all the Corsairs had the same internal file structure and a lot of the same part names, I think the missions get confused and just create the same plane over and over.

So I renamed all the internal references so that the planes are now "unique." They still reference some of the same textures (floorboards, prop blurs, tires and so forth) but the main parts of each plane are now unique. I ran a mission earlier tonite with all four Corsairs in it, and they all showed up with the correct skins, so hopefully this problem finally has a stake through its heart Also fixed a small error in the two Corsair squads included in the earlier file.

There's a new patch up at my site: PatchF4U.zip at http://sites.netscape.net/jeditaub/Downloads

Kinda hijacked the topic a bit there, but I guess this still qualifies as "important contest info"

Hi jedi the skin turning black is now happening to the P-47 as well. I don't know but maybe its just me. I've got all your fixs except the latest one, PatchF4u.
Thanks

It might be that your ambient light setting is out of whack. If you're running SDOE control, readjust the slider settings.
