This was posted by Ronin at the bottom of the Scharmers thread. Sorry for taking administrative duties on myself, but I felt it was important enough to be brought to it's own thread.

********************************
Guys:
Go back up this thread and look at all the effort to make sure Scharmers gets his SDOE configured to the latest greatest. This doesn't say a whole lot for the ease of getting into SDOE for a new guy now does it!

If getting the sim up and running is as hard as this for Scharmers, imagine how difficult it must be for someone new to sims!

We need to have someone step up to the plate and get things better organized to make it easier for newbies! Spanky, Zoy and Spyder did a great job with there online standard documentation! But, it isn't easy to get to from the main page of this site unless you search! It should be in your face when you log in! Also it is still calling out PP5.2 and other out of date info.

Someone needs to take charge to maintain an up to date well written doc file on how to set up SDOE with the latest estentials complete with links. And clear easy access to this instruction doc needs to be one of the first things you see when you log onto fightersquadron.com.

I think it would wise for other folks with SDOE sites to be able to link to this instruction doc from thier sites as well!

How about one of you guys that isn't building objects or tools for SDOE??

Ronin

I think Zoy already has a document set up, but it is not readily available from the main fightersquadron site. This situation needs to be changed right away.

I would be happy to maintain the document if Zoy and others are busy doing planes and skins. We just need to link it from the main page so new guys can find it. Does anyone other than MH have admin privileges for that page?

Perhaps we could add a link to the forum pages for the online standard spot.

As is said it's hard to figure out all the add-ons and this does get confusing. Making it easier to find instructions is important. Zoycite has updated his page and has mentioned a couple of times the SDOE page needs updating (it still says 5.2). Let's make it current and then add the link to it at the forum.

As I have said so much these last few days, I can maintain the Doc, but it needs to be in a better spot. You not only having it on the main fs page, maybe having a link somewhere on the forum pages would also be a great help. Like maybe the top left corner of the pages Or next to the fightersquadron link below.

Yes, I'm disappointed with MH on this. If he isn't going to keep the online standards page up to date he shouldn't have put it in. Wrong info is worse than none. At least with no page people would look elsewhere.

Spanky here...

Yep he should have put that sucker with its own link along with the other. Not buried behind the rest of the stuff.

I would be fine with updateing it.

Esox: Thanks for volunteering to help on this!

Zoycite: Great that you are willing to maintain the doc! It's well written and a good tool. I know you've got alot on your plate already. Maybe you and Esox could divide the work somehow?

Everybody else: Lets not get on MH for the site layout. I know that "I" haven't written him with a suggestion to improve this issue. Therefore, I don't see that I'm in position to gripe at him. He's doing alot by his ongoing support of our little hobby here!

So lets stay focused on how to make things better!

Zoy: Sounds like you've got an up to date online standard. Can you write MH or whoever is else is managing the sight to see if we can improve visibility of the standard?

Esox: Zoy's doc addresses the online standard. I think there is also need for a doc that addresses just how to setup the game for the newbie's out there. You know... the order of installation, which helpfull mods do what and their location, what to do imediately to get the best initial setup (exa: how to move the fog back and its best setting). Is this a good idea without being redundant for the online standard doc? I think there is a need for this kind of intermediate step before someone is ready to jump online.

I think access to both docs need to be very visible as soon as you log on. Maybe a 'HELP FOR THE NEW TO SDOE' link in the main list?

Thanks again for jumping on this so quick guys! Ronin
