Well there's still lots to do but here's beta1 of the Hurricane.

picture...

link...
http://www.fightersquadron.com/~bryanr/files/HurriBeta1.zip

Still left to do...

- Cockpit (heaps to do) thanks to roadtoad for helping me with this.

- Various mapping problems.

- FM, its not great but at least it stalls and spins, and sorta matches spec (probably! )

Ok I tried to download the Yak but the operation timed out and when I returned to try again the Hurricane and shooting start were available. This contest is so cool.

The Hurricane is a great addition and that skin looks cool.

I tried to fly the Hurricane in the training mission, but CTD

I will go and try to create a mission for it, and see if it is just localized to the training mission, or maybe I screwed something up when I unziped it.

It looks like it's going to be great though.

Tried by making my own mission. Still crashed.

It flashes to the cockpit for a milli-second, then whammo!

Any ideas?

Thats probably the airfoil. You will need to add "aircraft/airfoils/ClarkYH.ppf" to the media/startup.ppf file. I've been using the latest SDOE beta so I forgot all about this, sorry

It should have already unzipped the airfoil to the media/aircraft/airfoils dir, so you just need the extra line in startup.ppf.

I seem to remember something about needing the .sm version of the airfoil listed (or the .ppf version when you only have a .sm) in startup.ppf even if it doesn't exist so give that a go if you still have probs.

PR: Open the media/startup.ppf file in notepad, copy the "aircraft/airfoils/CYL.ppf" line in the file and paste it as another line, and now change the "CYL" in the new line to "ClarkYH". As per my previous post you may have to do the same with "aircraft/airfoils/CYL.sm" if this doesn't work.

This is a major pain, which is whay MH fixed it I guess. It'll be great when the latest beta becomes mainstream and we don't need this hassle...

If only you could see me with this big question mark over my head.

I guess I'll wait for the version that has all that in place.

Here's a modifyed startup.ppf you can use.
http://www.fightersquadron.com/~bryanr/files/startup.ppf"

Just copy it to "D:\sdoe\media" replace "D:\sdoe" with your SDOE dir. It might be wise to rename the existing startup.ppf just incase mine is missing a few items...

I edited the startup.ppf file and it works fine Bryan.

One other note. There are a couple of folders that are named Hanger instead of Hangar. I believe one's in the Media folder and the other's in the Gui/Art folder.
So if anybody's missing any files that's why. Just copy the files and put them in the appropriate Hangar folder.

Thanks dauntless, I've fixed up my distribution folders so beta2 will work right.

I will be really curious to see if I'm the only person with this problem.

First Bryan thanks for your hard work on this plane. I'm sure it's great even though I have yet to be able to see it, or fly it.

I still CTD every time.

I got your startup ppf and placed it as directed. No joy!

Is it just me?

That's strange. It should be using standard assets (except for the airfoil) so I don't really know what the problem could be.

As a last resort I took out the .SM reference to the airfoil and saved the startup.ppf to
http://www.fightersquadron.com/~bryanr/files/startup.ppf

Works either way with me but the latest beta probably handles airfoils a little differently. ( I can't revert to the old version for some reason)

Bryan,

I was desktopping too in both the beta and v 1.5. I had a look at the zip file. The airfoil is unzipping to media/airfoils not media/aircraft/airfoils

When I moved the CLARKYH.ppf file into media/aircraft/airfoils it works fine.

This is the most frustration I have ever had in my SDOE life!

I have tried every one of the above solutions to no avail.

Does anyone have an idea, or solution?

I want the Hurricane!!!! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Guys, I tried every single suggestion that is listed above. What it got me was SDOE not even working anymore. I had to re-install the game.

I know I probably screwed something else up when I did all of that, but I fear going through the same thing again. As bad as I want to fly the plane, I don't relish the thought of re-installing again.

Hmmmmm...relish.....suddenly I feel like a hotdog.

1) You need to add the line mentioned above to the startup.ppf file, but use all capitol letters for the first part of the name.

2) The airfoils directory needs to be in the aircraft directory.

I have it working rather nicely, with PP5.3a, beta5 65.

PR, what Spin said worked for me. You have to have your Airfoils directory inside your aircraft folder. Then be sure your startup.ppf file has this in it

"aircraft/airfoils/CLARKYH.ppf"

Whether or not all caps for that matter I don't know, but that is working fine for me.

My media folder has an aircraft folder which has all the user added aircraft for SDOE. Including the Hurricane.

I have place all the files related to the Hurricane in the places that have been specified on this thread.

I have added the lines to the Startup.ppf just as shown.

CTD every single time.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for trying.

PR, you are not the only one!

I added the ClarkYH.ppf line and CTD.
I added the ClarkYH.sm line and CTD.
I replaced the Media/startup.ppf with Bryan's and CTD.
I added the ClarkYH.sm line to Bryan's .ppf since his didn't have it and CTD.
I rebooted and tried and CTD.
I even made the hanger to hangar file swaps and CTD.

Why just us?

Did you copy ClarkYH.ppf from "media/airfoils" to "media/aircraft/airfoils"? that was another of my mistakes.

PR!!!! IT WORKS!!!!!!

I'm not sure which change fixed it but when I moved the ClarkYH.ppf from media/airfoils to media/aircraft/airfoils I noticed it was spelled CLARKYH.ppf. All uppercase. I changed it to ClarkYH.ppf like Bryan has been telling us to change the startup.ppf and now it works. If the ppf files are case sensitive this would make a difference.

Good Luck.

PR,
List which .ppf files you have in your media folder. There used to be one called airfoils.ppf if I recall. Don't think you need it.

Bryan, this is so beautiful I can hardly speak. This is getting so good, can you believe what online play will be like in a week or so? Fabulous work!
