Cya peoples. Stick a fork in me, I'm done.I was sooo stoked when SDOE was being hyped. Now, "the thrill is gone" to quote a very famous muscian. Tried to hang through the FM, forcefeedback and TNT graphic display issues. It's been approxiamtely a year now. I remember the heady days of MH stating he had laid his hands on some new A/C info and was chomping at the bit to get them implemented into a new SDOE patch. Soon thereafter he said he wanted to try to post up a new beta every week. Ahh, those were the days. Here we are. He's busy. I'm busy. He's too busy to put out a new patch and I'm too busy to keep checking for one. We all have our threshold. Good luck on the new RC sim, personally I'm gonna have to pass as I can't see spending around 50% of the cost to get into the actual hobby you are trying to simulate. Will check up on the progress of the PTO sim when that comes around though.
To Pete and the rest of the crew that have kept this sim kicking until MH "finds the time" to fix some of the fundamental probs with it. Thank You!! To Tailspin, Spyder, SV, Spanky, nuum, Jeeves, Whirlwind and the rest who have taken time out of their busy lives to invest their time and effort into this product. I was really on the brink of purchasing a Voodoo 3500 soley for this game due to y'alls' efforts. I really wanted to take part in the FM testing etc etc but using the MSFF stick didn't help. The only thing I could consistantly come up with is that the spin model reminds me of a 172. It damn near auto recovers less you REAL heavy on the rudder . We'll never know the whole story of what happened with Eric "Hellcats" Parker and the ideal of what SDOE was supposed to be. Oh, what could have been. I prefer to look at SDOE as a stepping stone to the right direction. By the looks of it, more stones will be appearing soon. (ie AH, WW2online, WB3, Fctoe, B17II and CFSII). On the other hand, I still feel like I got took for 50 bucks. To this day I'll never understand why a developer/publisher didn't try and put out at least some semblance of a PTO sim in the midst of all these ETO releases. Things that make you go hmmmm. SDOE is now banished from HD, making room for the next mega-hyped ww2 sim. This time I'll wait for the reviews. No. not you Scharmers. I think I've done pretty well considering a years worth of dissapointment . TO MH: Shoulda put this up front to save you from reading all this. I'm a Bass player Cya up there, Apeboy

Spanky here.. Good luck in finding something you like. I'm also wishing that patch had come along. I can play without it however. It sucks but its still to fun to walk away from. What ww2 sim are you making room for? As far as i know all the new sims are months away from release? I heard B17 2 was pushed back until winter 2000. and all the others are still months also.

Apeboy, whats the point? What are you playing for the next 6 months until B-17II comes out? I dont get this at all. We have what we have. It's not like there is this perfect WWII sim that you can go fly in the mean time.Maybe I'm just short-sighted, but if you're dissapointed with SDOE, great. Go fly whatever, but why announce your departure like it's a news release? I leave SDOE for weeks at a time. I always come back refreshed. I love this sim for what it is, and that's enough for me. If it gets better (and so far it has been getting better and better), than that's a bonus. It certainly has been worth $50.00. Sheesh! *added 9:55am* Oh yeah, I'm a guitar player ------------------ -< -< -< -< Esox=FC=

Another leaving "anouncment". Why do they have to be so dramatic. Just leave for crying out loud.By the way apeboy the rc sim shouldn't cost half the price of the actual commitment to get into the real thing. I don't know what MH's sim will cost but to get into the RC hobby today you need a $500 bill and that will get you bare minmum. As far as SDOE is concerned I love it. The planes are detailed works of art. More planes modeled than any other sim. More eras modeled. And the spins I have got into do not self correct. Oh, and apeboy, I'm a drummer.

Another drummer speaking:Well apeboy- I always hate to see people go, but always welcome them when they return. It's a shame you're leaving now though with the contest end only days away...you're missing out on Tail's fine Yak, Jag's hard work on the Dauntless, and a whole outpouring of others...and always one for a shameless plug- Nations should provide a whole new side to the game. Alas, all this is overshadowed by SOS which may be a while (if at all) in the making... I'd love to have all the world's lawyers in one place.... then....well, there may be lawyers watching so I digress... IP: Logged |

Apeboy,Maybe what you mentioned applies to SDOE, but I don't think it need apply to OpenPlane. The RC sim will be OpenPlane based... and who knows what is next? Maybe the next big WW2 sim will be an OpenPlane sim Take care... y'all come back, y'hear? ------------------ -Sv =FC= WWI in SDOE!

Don't you realize that in a couple more weeks it'll be raining new airplanes around here? MANY great new flyable airplanes! If I were you I'd stick around, AT LEAST until you try them all out. Just the damage-model patch, that's all we need for the squads to return and take SDoE seriously again. What the fuck is it with this damage-model problem anyway? I'm thinking the only reason our geniuses haven't fixed it themselves already is because MH promised he would sort it. Some months ago. I feel very let-down by MH. He's just kind of quietly slipped away, patch in his pocket, and left SDoE crippled online. I can live with indestructible flaps, no engine overheat, but I can't be dealing with a/c that take the full contents of my mags without any effect. Lots of new a/c, very very nice, BUT NOT WHEN THEY'RE ALL INDESTRUCTIBLE ONLINE!!! MH, come here and step into my office for a mo would you...?IP: Logged |

I for one like to know where people we have played with have gone. I think you guys should be a little more undertanding after all if someone takes the time to tell you they are leaving they must have felt a part of the community. As far as I can see thats all SDOE has so don't wreck it. I've gone back to War Birds myself cause of the servers etc. does that mean you don't want me checking into the forum to see what guys are doing?IP: Logged |

People feeling they have to whine because someone spoke out loud about their feelings on something is just the same IMO. The guy felt part of the group and get's dumped on for his free speech, but hey no surprises there. So, let's not speak up when something displeases us, I'm sure it'll all get fixed quicker...NOT! I don't know....guess I read it a bit different than some. I thought his post was mostly praise for a sim that everyone thought was dead after it released...he said he felt he got his 50 bucks' worth. Mostly due to the efforts of a great community and support from MH and some of the Parsoft folks'...but he felt let down, also, by the delays on the next patch. We have all said that in one way or another, but we all know too that MH is doing this on his own and his first priority ( as is ours ) is making a living.I guess I would like to feel I could come in here if I made the same decision and feel comfortable saying it to people I have gotten to know and regard as friends and neighbors. Depends, I reckon, as do so many things, on perspective.

I'm going to have to agree with Spyder on this one. I think that there has to be a certain passion and compassion to fly a letter as the Ape did. At the very least he had the compassion for others to say good-bye, probably whom he considered friends. And to me he expressed the passion for the game that it sometimes takes to stay here. Its ok to say "The King has no clothes" those are people that get things done. They stir crap and get us to take a second look at the things in our lives that at the time are important to us. Sometimes its better to walk away than to be troubled and try to stay... " The reasonable man adapts himself to the world. The unreasonable man expects the world to adapt to him. Therefore any further progress depends on the unreasonable man"IP: Logged |

I'm sorry, where in the post did he say he got his $50.00 bucks worth? I read it that he thought he was taken for $50.00.I think people should be able to tell the friends they make in this community any problems they see in this game. I think (as you said Neal) most of us do it in one form or another everyday. If someone feels they need to make an announcement. The podium is always open I guess. I think some of us get frustrated because we see this sim being oh so close to becoming the sim we always wanted it to be, and yet we need just a couple tweaks here and there to make it happen. The problems of course are that MH is the one person that can do most of it (at least many think so) and he appears most often to be to busy. Of course, even if he did do everything we envision now to make it complete, lets face it, we would just think of some more things. So, I guess we just move along with the sim we have. Make it as good as we are able, i.e. Plane FM's, DM's, new planes, new ground objects, looking into the terrain, etc. And enjoy it as long as we have enough of us around that care. Thats just my .02 worth. PR=FC= IP: Logged |

People announce they are leaving, fine. The issues are close but so far away. MH promised the patch over the Christmas weekend. Three months later we are still waiting. I received a note from MH a while back saying the Semi-Open Source (SOS) was close to ready and he said the final tweaks to the patch would probably have to be handled by the guys doing SOS. He says the SOS is ready except for the lawyers sorting out the non-disclosure agreement. Then we hear he is doing some optimizing thing so the patch is delayed yet again. If these lawyers are being paid by the hour they have made a fortune by now. MH you want a NDA, I have one. I will send it to you for free! Then let those of us who have volunteered for SOS get on with fixing this sim. There is alway something delaying the "patch" or "SOS." We had a great distraction for the past month or two, the contest. So lets get serious with this again. Spanky here... Yep i can't see whats so hard about writeing a NDA either. And how much are these lawyers gouging inertia for? Is it not to their best intrest to drag it out as long as possible. The way i see it i just go ahead based on the fact that it will never happen. Just live with the game as it is now cause nothing is going to get bettter until SDOP comes out. I love dreaming and talking about what we should do to the game if we get SOS going but i live on the assumtion that its not going got happen. IP: Logged |
