I know this may be asking a lot, but is it possible to fix the readme in the 5.3a patch and redistribute it? How many versions are out there? I'll fix the one at esox.net, but if we can get them fixed it will solve a lot of mismatch probs for the new guys.

The only change I made to the readme was to put in "Fighter Squadron\Media" instead of just "Fighter Squadron".

A 5.3b patch might make sense if it replaces 5.3a. having 2 patches would suck big time. This might make even more of a mess of the online situation though.
Would it be hard to put everything in a new Plane Pack and call it 5.4? That way there would be one file for people to download again and less confusion. I know it's a big download for some, but the confusion in the lobbies is not good :/

I have a little more time these days Razor, how can I help?

I second you there Esox. And as said, we could then get the patch for the 262 distributed

I third that motion to create the 5.3b revision patch and put it in the downloads section. The newbies on the system don't know all the web sights that well .
Also if anyone has the updates on all the aircraft created plaese put that in downloads so we don't have a missmatch on aircraft. PLEASE.... "Hound-Dog"

Why not change it so the Zip or self-extracting EXE extract into the right directory, instead of changing the readme?
Just rebuilding the ZIP from the right directory with "include subdirectories" (or folders, or whatever they call 'em) would work.

If I get a bit defensive it's cause I put together the readme (5.3 initial release anyhow) and I was under the impression that the readme would be correct (or corrected, either way). I have heard a lot of complaining about this and I see it has given a few people problems.
I really honestly thought Razer was going to have it extract like it says in the readme. I even asked to make sure, before I put it together and sent it to him.
Ya can't blame Razer though he put in a lot of work on the Plane Pack.

I definitely agree that what we need to do is get this fixed. Like that problem we were having with the file posted on combatsim...
Besides, who knows how long this PlanePack will be considered the online standard? The discrepency does need to get fixed on account of all the confused people out there.

I don't keep SDOE in 'Fighter Squadron', I keep mine in a directory called 'sdoe'. It so aggitates me to have to unzip a file by hand because someone insists that 'Fighter Squadron' must be the directory everyone is using. Also, my online version is sdoeonline.

Just an FYI that not everybody is the rule.

Why don't the ops guys write an installer that searches for FS no matter where and have it install to \media or whatever when run? Would make it foolproof no matter what the readme says then.
Reaper, things aren't so grim...hehe

Reaper, the readme in the plane pak is correct. It's the patch to 5.3a. It is identical to the readme for the plane pack, but unfortunately, it needs to be unziped to media instead of the FS root.

And Whirlwind, the readmes alway say "extract to your Fighter Squdron directory" or something of that nature, you just need to extract to whatever that directory is. (mine is SDOE ) There should be no need to do it by hand because the internal directory structure will be the same regardless.

An installer would be great. Hmmmm, who is good with programming? That SDOE control program is pretty good.... who was that guy that wrote that? On the tip of my tongue.....

The bigger the worm, the bigger the fish.... some fool will figure out how to prove the most fool proof system is a failure.

esox:
Oh, I mean that if someone does do a self installing .exe file, don't target it for 'Fighter Squadron'. It was also my chance to beef .

A better patch system would be nice, but the zip method is about the best we have to work with until one of the above previous replies comes true.

Unreal has something resembling a self installing package method - just double click and the Unreal setup program chucks the data where it goes.

A lot of patches now search your drive to see if the game is installed and add it to the required directory. No fuss, no worms!
Err Esox, wonder who the guy was? I just can't find the time playing all these sims!

Hmm... the installer would just check the registry to see where you have SDOE installed. I don't know if a setup like Whirlwind's would cause problems though.
In his case, it would probably just install to the directory where he last installed FS, since that's what would be in the registry.

Oh yeah, did Ronin ever post a fix for the Me262? I have one that's fixed by him and me and I could probably post it if there is a demand. I don't know if he's done anything else to it, but the one I have has the canopy LOD thing fixed, the view correctly lined up with the gunsight, and the pilot is lined up better with the center of the cockpit.
