Okay, I need some help. I just upgraded my work computer so I can adequately run SDOE but I have a Diamond Monster Fusion Voodoo Banshee. I know this card caused some funky looking scenes and Michael Harrison was not sure if anything could be done to improve performance. I reread some posts and saw that many people are using a Banshee (not sure if they are Diamond) with good results. I was not sure if the latest version of SDOE or drivers would help. Any suggestions?IP: Logged |

I'm using the Diamond Monster Fusion 16 (Voodoo Banshee) in Glide and I haven't noticed any strangeness. The frame rate is pretty low, though... running AMD K6-2 400, 80MB RAM. I hope to get a new vid card soon anyhow.-=TheReaper=- IP: Logged |

I'm also running Diamond Monster Fusion voodoo Banshee with original drivers, and while I've had a little trouble with 5.3a freezing for a second or two on me occasionally performance has otherwise been smooth. I've even run SDOE will fog pushed back to max. It didn't work well, but it was flyable.Werner ------------------ DOWNLOADS+PILOT ROSTER+FAN SITE INNOVATION=B.C.A.T.P. Visit Today! IP: Logged |

Spanky here.. I use a Banshee. I think its a HIGHLY underrated vid card for SDOE. I run at 800x600(i don't find any speed increase at 640x480) and have my texture and object sliders at half. And run in glide. I get anywhere from 15fps at worst to over 100(not very often just for a short burst) think the reason for the huge fluctuations is my cpu P2 266 which i will be overclocking as soon as i get a new MoBo. My average FPS would be 16-60 Hopefully a higher CPU speed will help even it out. Its a fine card. As long as you have a decent cpu to back it up. Reaper. After i see what the game performes like with an overclocked CPU (hopefully around the 350 range) I'll let you know the outcome. As much as you don't want to hear it your CPU is the week link in your computer. I would Definatly upgrade the CPU and then RAM before any vid card upgrades.

Yeah but my K6-2 400 still beats out your P266, overclocked or not =Þ-=TheReaper=- IP: Logged |

Spanky here... Actually Reaper. The K6-s 400 is slower in Floating point then a p2 266. Which is where is counts in SDOE. IP: Logged |

Try visiting 3DFX Interactive driver download web page, and if you dont have the DirectX 7 version you can get it there. It made a difference with my Voodoo Banshee Version 4.10. Or Creative Labs Main Web page is a good source for info... PsiIP: Logged |

I have a Voodoo3 and also get an occaisional pause running glide. It seems to happen when I pull the trigger sometimes. I am also having trouble running SDOE in D3D mode. When I select primary direct 3d, it goes to desktop, then back to game, but when I look at the display settings it has gone back to software mode. Any Ideas?Tanks for any help Crank IP: Logged |

Spanky here... I would rather run SDOE i glide. Your not missing anything by not being able to run it in D3D. It has some graphical glichtes for me and runs slower. I get that pause when i pull the trigger too. It seems to be the game loading the flash effect or the gunshot sound. Always take a quick shot with your MGs and Cannons shortly after take off and its cool from then on for me.

Ok, I need an upgrade. I can only fly at 540X resolution without the screen flashing white. I have a HP Pavilion - 350 Mhz PII - 64 Megs Ram - ATI Rage Pro Turbo AGP 2x with 8 Megs SDRAM Video Memory. Would I be better off upgrading my system Ram or just installing a new Video Board like the Voodoo3? Would it help to install 8 more Megs of SDRAM into my current video board (if that is possible)?IP: Logged |

Crankshaft - Are you using Beta 5 Build 65? If you are htne the mode has been changed to D3D, it just doesnt get reported correctly in the setup screen. Weasel - Get a new video card. Nothing really wrong with the ATI card but is just doesnt have the performance or compatability of a TNT or Voodoo card. If you look over the last couple of weeks of posts there are several threads on which type of card is the best bang for the buck right now. -Stark IP: Logged |

A question for those of you with Diamond Monster Fusion Banshee card...Anybody know what gives better performance: -the shipped drivers (a little old) -the latest drivers from Diamond OR -the latest Banshee reference drivers from 3Dfx Thanks, -=TheReaper=- IP: Logged |

Spanky here.. weasel Don't bother adding ram to that card. It would probly be over priced anyway. Depending on the money you have buy one of the V3s or a geforce. Maybe a TNT2 Ultra if thats more your style. Voodoos tend to get the best FPS for SDOE. But a Geforce might be the longest lasting card of the bunch. ReaperMan I don't have the dimond verion but i have a banshee. I use a set of reference drivers from 3Dfx. Can't remember the Version But i think they maybe older. Not the newest anyway. IP: Logged |

Spanky here... Oh yeah weasel A ram upgrade will do some good too and not just for SDOE. when we went from 64 megs to 96. it was great. specialy for working in 3D apps. Considering ram is alot cheaper lately its a though. The week point in your system would be vid and then ram. I'm guessing that if you live in the states you could put in a V3 2000 and 32megs of ram for under 150 with any luck. and it will blow you away when you do it. SDOE will be a whole new game. Okay, let me be more specific. I have a K6-350 with 64mb ram (simms) on a FIC V503+ motherboard with the Diamond Monster Fusion, some P.O.S. ESS sound card (it was free), and some generic modem (it was cheap). I have the latest install of SDOE with Direct X 6, and the latest drivers of the Monster Fusion. The game will not run after loading on Glide, initial sound only then the whole thing freezes. It stays on the load screen. On D3D the entire landscape looks red and is horrible to play. My home computer has a Tyan 1590 motherboard a K6-500 with 128 ram (dimms), Sound Blaster PCI 128, a TNT Riva and SDOE runs smooth as silk. Even when this motherboard had the K6-350 with 64 mb ram it ran very decent. Any hints/ideas?IP: Logged |
