Spanky here... Hi guys. I'm going to write up a set of guidelines for the historical flight night and i need your help. I need to define what we would consider realistic to help people play their part. Te me this would include. Taking out your target first and formost and not just charging off into the Dogfight if there is a place to bomb, bomber to protect or bombers on their way to your home field. Acting someone realisticly. Including not running into a big furball where the odds are 10 to 1 against you. Trying to land in freindly territory. Using teamwork, ACM and Wingmen. Going home after one of your elevator or wing tips was torn off cause you would be too scarred to carry on. What i'm trying to say is pretend your actualy VAlue your virtual pilot. Pilots and planes will be limited to add extra incentive to live and fight another day. Any ideas on how we can effectively implement these ideas? BTW it seems like this night is going to depend on alot of mutual trust. Like when i say that i bailed. Then people will have to trust that I bailed and didn't just say that so i wasn't dead.

Spanky, I can make printable Maps and Flight Plans. I could make one Map for the Axis and one for the Allies for each mission and a Flight Plan for each Squad for each mission. The flight plan would have Waypoints, Speed, Headings, and Altitudes. Maybe the Flight plans and Maps could be downloaded from a site before entering the game so people could print them out ahead of time. Of course I would need the missions well in advance but once we do this a couple of times we could just use the same information over and over. It would really help if the missions use real locations for Waypoints. Instead of putting a waypoint in the middle of the ocean. To cross the ocean put one waypoint over an English town and the next over a German town. Instead of using the ingame map to see where you are You would line up on the first town/waypoint fly the Heading and hopefully end up at the next town/waypoint. Of course you could use the ingame map to double check. I really like to flying with a printed flight plan showing the headings and altitude. Oh well just an idea. Let me know. I could help with this after the contest. Raider 33rd~GS [This message has been edited by Raider (edited 03-14-2000).] IP: Logged |

Spanky here.. Raider, Sounds like a good idea. I personally don't have a printer. One thing i don't really like about it is. It adds work to the project. I'm trying to make this as painless to be a part of as possible. Really the only thing i wanted to be done ahead of time was the outlining of rules and the missions made. That way people could just show up and pick their team and off we go. The more it takes to run the historic night the more its doomed to fail. Peoples priorties change week to week. Thats why i didn't want people signing up earlier in the week just to come on for the fight and saying they had to bow out. I think the less there is too it the better. One thing i really like about your idea is the idea of using towns as way points. Isn't that how they really would have done it? That sounds great.

Raider, that would RULE if you could make those maps. And forget all about making waypoints in the mission editor. Just set the target, and then people will haveto follow the printed map... What would also be cool, is if people had to do their own navigation. No clip board view, you haveto plot your progress on the printed map!......... well, maybe I'm the only one, but I think that would rule!Spanky, how about having matches of 3-5 games... if you get killed, then your out for the remaining games of that match. That might make people think twice about becoming a "Hero", and stay in formation I will DEFINATELY be there!........ just as long as I get my B-17 =) ------------------ Cheers! Jaguar Thoughts of limiting the pilots you have or the planes are in the works. I think just having one pilot might be extream. If you start with 16 people at the beginning of the night how many would be left after 5 games? I think there should be stuff about bailing. If you bail and your over home territory then your cool. If you bail over the enemy then you have a certain chance of having been rescued or escaping. We have to work something out. Plus limit the planes so people don't just bail as soon as they are in trouble over the homeland. IP: Logged |

Spanky, Here is an idea for that, when you setup a mission, make a group of funky trucks... just 2 works, an observer for the allies, and one for the Axis. Then the observer watches what is going on for the side they are watching. If you put the trucks way out in the corners of the maps, then you don't have to worry about them being FPS hits or targets. Also, with the HUD on, the observers can record who bailed, who died and it would be "Impartial" and also wouldn't require the pilots to try and keep track themselves. The observers would be good for nice screen shots too. ;} Mirthain=FC=IP: Logged |

Spanky here... Mirthain Yeah Mad Dog had that idea too. But who is going to want to sit out and just watch? In the later missions when some pilots have died we can do that though. Personally i have no problem trusting people. If we can't do that i don't even want to play. IP: Logged |
