I was just doing a mission in a Ju88 with heavy bombing load (2x500kg, 2x250kg, 10x50kg?). Dive bombing the 2x500 and 2x250 onto the buildings on one side of an airfield seemed to take out just about everything in the area! I then tried a Mosquito FB. VI in the training mission. Dropping 2x500lbs on a Hanomag in a hamlet seemed to destroy all the buildings in the hamlet. Surely this is over the top?Aaron Turner IP: Logged |

Try dropping a 1000 lb'er on the harbour.. it takes out the whole thing LOL

That unfortunately is the case. I think a group at one time had looked at it, but if you are using PP5.3, nothing has changed.IP: Logged |

Spanky here.. Boy i hope this gets fixed with the DM stuff. Cause I also don't think the bombs should act quite to powerfully.IP: Logged |

I suppose there is always the option of reducing the amount of explosives in the bombs which seems to be an option in the loadout.ppf files. Of course it would be hard to regulate this online, but I could tweak it for offline play.Mind you, since I installed the new voodoo 3 drivers I can't see the bomb sight properly under glide so it is slightly moot at the moment as heavy bombers are tricky at the moment! IMO we should leave the bombs alone. Don't we need excessive explosive force to compensate for the small number of bombers we can get into the air? I know that's not realistic but neither are three plane bomber missions with non-Norden bombsites trying to take out a target. If we reduce the power of each bomb we will need to go back and reduce the damage required to win a mission in all the missions created so far.Maybe we should consider the extensive damage done by one bomb as collateral damage done by fires and secondary explosions. You probably hit that argument right on the head, Jerry. It is probably the reasoning used when the damage was defined for them. You do have a valid point. The few objects that do require more to kill than just one bomb (ships) can just be obHit adjusted. IP: Logged |

I still don't buy the the need to have overly powerful bombs to represent large formations. Warbirds doesn't seem to need to have excessive blast, although it does have a good Norden. Excessively poweful bombs means that many WW2 tactics are denied to us with SDOE, e.g. low level bombing attacks as they blow you up with the blast rather easily. It would nice to at least have the OPTION of realism. If I tweak loadout.ppf files for offline play will it affect things online? Anyone idea how much I need to reduce the explosives level - 10 times?

Loadouts are checked online, so you cant play with different ones than everyone else. See if you can get accurate data on the explosive content of wwii bombs and well try to put em in for the next plane pack. I think right now were assuming that the warhead is 40% of the bomb's total weight.IP: Logged |
