If you have a minute could you list what you think would currently make for fair matchups with the planes based on their handling/speed/whathaveyou?
Not what should be in reality but as the planes fly as defined by pp5.3.
cheers

ie
Allied | Axis
P51D's vs FW190A4's
SpitV's vs Bf109G's
etc

Cheers

Pilots in WW2 didn't have fair matches. What makes a good pilot is to work with your plane and know it's strong points. then use your enemys weakness against him to shoot him down. having evenly matchs missions isn't enough .

Agreed

We can fortunantly vary the starting alt, the # of aircraft per side to achieve play balancing.

while each of the planes are much improved over previous versions we never got a chance to test them against each other online before the plane pack came out so it created some mismatches.

The 109s and p38 have always had ceilings too low which wasn't noticeable before but the tactics being used online are getting better and better and the fights are moving up and up. The 109s effectively top out at 15k and the p38s top out at 18k.

Climb got adjusted on the other planes but not the p51 so it climbs too good (almost as good as the A4). The 109K can't out-climb the p51 and neither can the A8.

If we can pick missions that avoid these issues it'll be less frustrating.

If you want to balance your missions, let everyone select planes *before* you online. You'll find out if there are any dogs in there pretty quick

Some good fights:

X v X in fog.. 190A4 vs Spit V.. the V climbs much worse but in a mission with ground fog they can draw the 190s down low and dice them up.

X v X any condition .. p51 vs 190A4. A good squad of p51 pilots should be able to use their superior speed to run circles around the A4. Slightly biased in favour of the p51 but I haven't seen many effectively use of the p51 in 5.3 yet..

P38s and 109s.. due to their ceiling problems I would limit them to missions involving escorting bombers or intercepting bombers and provide ack over airbases so they can land safely without having to dogfight to the last plane (once the bombers return home or get shot down the mission should really be over.. if we had accelerated fuel usage you wouldn't have a choice but to return to base).

Also the mossie climbs half as good now so it's no match for a 190a4 anymore

The tiffie is easier to control but still no dogfighter either.. great interceptor and ground attack but don't expect people to do alot of dogfighting in either of these planes.

.. and I've never seen a spit 1a shoot anything down online EVER..

I built this thing and I can kill stuff with it offline but it's just no good online until the damage bug gets fixed or the planes get updates to simulate fuel leaks, pilot kills, etc better.

I agree with you about all of the above Tail. I also long for the day with fuel/coolent leaks, and pilot kills...Wow what a sim that would make. I dont know how many times Ive shot aircraft Full of holes only to have them keep flying all over the place. It would make the missions much more interesting, cause all you would need is a lucky shot, and any aircraft could get that, without having to blast the entire framework of the plane apart

Keep flying

Just flew the beta with the UK crowd and the Spit IX - FW190A4 matchup without the overcast layer seems pretty even.. the 190 zoom climbs better but the spit turns better.. both about the same speeds.

I like how the beta allows enemy icons on map OFF.. it lets you disengage from the fight and gain alt with no one spotting you doing it on the map.

Too bad the beta has other problems
