I've been running Beta 5 alot lately.Amoungst over problems mentioned in the last topic on Beta 5 I've found a rather serious one.

Celeron 300 OC'd to 450
64 mb ram
Monster V2 12mb
Glide 800 by 600
object detail slider @ 50%
terrain detail @ 100%

I've ran 2 missions offline that have both resulted to the same exact ending. Both lasted for about 25 minutes.8 to 10 Fighters total in the mission.Fairly fresh reboot, and first mission once starting game.

The Problem: Kicked to desktop ,but in 640 by
480 res. 16 bit color.

I run 1024 by 768, 24 bit color on the desktop before starting the game.Forced to reboot to change back to Hi-Res.

Memory leak with the beta?

Never had this problem EVER in 1.5 standard patch.Shame too, because if beta 5 got its bugs worked out,its far superior in performance to standard 1.5

Just some FYI to help out any future patch

I also installed the 1.5.1 build 65 patch and ran a few missions.
Here's what happened to my
(AMD K6-2 450 Mhz
Creative Riva TNT 16 AGP
800x600 full plane detail, texture detail down one notch in D3d) system:
-Incredibly long loading time even tho texture cache has been built
-no loading progress screen
-Lower frame rates
-screen center offset to the left
-blueish hue in gunsight, no longer transparent.
-VISIBLE grid lines in terrain(!)
-Game will no longer run fullscreen, windowed only(!)
-Pointer in menus is always an hourglass.

Solution for me: FRESH REINSTALL.

It may be 1) the new planes, or 2) a curupt SDOE - reinstall.

I hope

I see the same exact problem with the normal current SDOE - my missions will last up to like 10 or 15 minutes, then I crash to DT with 640X480, 16 bit color.

I am scared that it is my planes, but this happens to me now and again with the normal plane pack aircraft (5.2 and 5.3)

No one has ever reported this problem with my planes yet, anyone?

Someone told me a re-install fixed this problem for them. I will try this after the contest is over and report.

Kraftwerk -

You were actually running in OpenGL - not D3D. There is a known bug with the options screen not correctly reporting what video mode the game is set to run in. Just go in and set it to D3D at whatever resolution you want and then exit and restart the sim. It may already say it is in D3d mode...just reselct it from the drop down and all should be good. Don't go back into the video options after this, I've had it change the setting even though I didnt ask it to.

Other than the PP5.3 complaints, I have had a good time with Beta5 65. I did install it on a fresh copy of SDOE, and am running the latest drivers on everything (except bios ). The target/bomb site hazing as well as cloud alpha problems (they both are related to alpha blending) is the only thing I've seen.

The only crash I have had that took out the desktop was from doing some bad OP plane design, but a reboot cleared it right up.
