I am huge fan of EAW (as mentioned in my first post), well with a bunch of guys wanting more out of it they started screwing around with the files. One guy was looking at all his Pacific Air War (old DOS game) and realized that it and EAW had the same 3D shape files for the aircraft! Well everyone jumped at this and now there are tons of Jap and Ami Pacific skins for EAW and with new Pacific terrains these guys have created a whole new game! I wish that this was in some way possible for you guys as I look at this board and see great Jap skins and wonder what they would look like not on a Bf109 but on a Zero or a Betty.
Just wanted to give my condolances LOL!

I can't wait to see the replies on this topic!
Hey JG you should go look for the topics on some guy who dismissed us like you did! It only happened about 4 days ago.
About EAW I think the graphics are truly crap compared with SDOE.

What I love about SDOE is the fact that you can, if you feel like it, do what damage you choose to inflict on certain parts of any plane and watch as the pilot trys to keep control. EAW they just jump out, like the AI are wimps in EAW! LOL!!!!!!
What I'm trying to say is that SDOE is like you flying for real while EAW feels like you flying underwater or something like its all mushy. Anyone who played A-10 Cuba knows why SDOE is cool: the fun way you can trash anything.

But the way you can shoot down bombers in EAW so easy is cool. I play EAW when I need stress relief, ya know like a shoot 'em up for kids?

SDOE will eclipse EAW in the long run because EAW fans will run for B-172 when it comes out because they know that EAW was a good sim a year ago but now its dead.

Anyway thats what I think.

You wouldn't by chance know of where we can get the header files to read in EAW aircraft, would you? Maybe we can give them moving surfaces in between original creations we are working on for SDOE. It is amazing what you can do with an updated engine . Scarry to think that EAW might have been ready to go in 1995, but was shelved because of some management decision.

I've always wondered why the EAW guys don't get stuck into decoding the 3DZ files. Decoding any 3d file format is just a matter of time patiance and yet more time.

It took me about a week to do the warbirds format, so I can't imagine it would be much more for EAW.

With the hardware around now, I'm sure they could get some spectacular results, and still keep the game playable, although I think the control surfaces and such might be out of reach.

I just got this game last week and must say I'm really impressed. I've been playing EAW and like it too, but just look at what these artists are doing! I got a P38j cockpit from http://members.xoom.com/fginc/sdoe.html

that I'm spending way too much time in hehe. I like EAW too and some great work is being done on it, but the feel of flying an aircraft with weight and torque is here at SDOE. I think in the long run this will be the game simmers flock to. I mean look at that Corsair pic!!

Bryan, the decoding's been done for some time now. The 3dz files contain the geometry and links to tpc files ( pcx's converted using microprose' converter) for all the cockpit and surface textures for each plane. These have been applied to the previously non flyable aircraft in Eaw, other than the mentioned PAW planes I don't know if anything else has been added from outside.
The format for the flight and damage models are the flt files.
Currently there is a website being setup that's pooling the resources of available programmers to enhance/add to Eaw via code and utils.
cheers

Yes Spyder is correct. The 3DZ file are just pointers or "holders" for the other info.

The website for the code (which is mine LOL) is http://www.crosswinds.net/~eawcw

Oh and PropHead.. I mean PropWash, I don't consider EAW an "arcade" sim. It has a very realistic flight model although the damage model suffers and graphics suffer. I believe that SDOE is a better sim in certain ways but EAW is just as good. I really don't appreciate your comments.

Hartmann,

Thanks for the info. Keep us in touch with what's going on. Maybe some of our custom made 3D models can be ported over to EAW.

With all of this new stuff for EAW, will your (EAW Coding Guys) allow for the aircraft to be re-texture mapped?

Hartmann...man, would have hated to have that fella within 30 miles of me if I had a red star on the side of my plane.

Yeah, that's sort of Prop's way of saying "Hello." He even talks that way to people he LIKES, or when he's HAPPY. But you'll learn to like him. He's consistent.

Hey, check us out Hartmann. If you need any info on servers, or times, or RW frequencies or anything like that, just give us a shout.

Ok lets see. FM, hmm. I would have to compare the eaw FM to those little planes I use to ride when I was a kid that you stick a quarter in out front of a grocery store. All the sounds are simular to it as well.
And Hardon, next time you are in your realistic sim please look out at the wing. There you will find what are known as "control surfaces". (Stop me if I am going to fast) These "control surfaces" are supposed to move. Thats rite, move! What do ya know, parts that move in relation the actions of the pilot. What will they think of next! But how could you have possibly known.
So please, go stick a quarter in your floppy slot and crank up eaw to your blind hearts content.
The next time you want to post a provocative message on this site, just save it for some who gives a rats ass about your silly little game!

Oh yea, same to ya!

Game a versus Game b is a silly subject anyway.

In defense of EAW all I can say is: Hey Propwash, what's that yellow thing in the sky that hurts your eyes when you look at it? Oh, I forgot its not there, but at least the rudders do move. LOL

Uh, no it doesn't work both ways unless you can fly the sun in eaw. I believe we were talking about FMs not enviroments. Hardon wants to tackle that subject then I have no defense.
I must admit that I was in a somewhat altered state in my fist response post but now Im just pissed. No this is not BBQ. It is my opinion the BBQ is a imature pimple faced lower form of electronic smegma. If it were me Dan I figure out some way to have the shit kicked out of him. Legally or otherwise.
Now back to the real issue. The thing is, Hardon purposly crept in here and started this crap. And to top it off you guys jump me for ripping him a new one. I for one will not accept his, "oh excuse me post".
He is a weasle pure and simple. His intent was to piss people off and I am sorry if I hurt his little pussy ass feelings.

Spyder,

I didn't think anyone had cracked the actual geometry yet, the PAW planes are just imported verbatim. It would be good if someone did, maybe a bit of cross breeding between SDOE and EAW

Prop, it's okay. He did the manly thing, and said, "Whoops. I was wrong."

That's better than a heck of a lot of folks around here. And I don't think you hurt his pussy ass little feelings. I think his little pussy ass feelings are just fine. (Pussy ass feelings...tee-hee...that cracked me up...I'll have to use that soon on someone...giggle...)

Also Prop, remember, it would be a lot of fun to get some fresh mea---...I mean some "new flyers" in here. Let's not scare away dinne---...I mean, a possible source of new competition.

And Prop, believe me, I'm not telling you what to do...I just think the battle's over, and you're still hearing the sound of artillery shells in your head. (And it would be fun to get some fresh mea---...I mean, some EAW folks in here!)

Feeling safer knowing an easily angered Propwash is patrolling the SDOE skies,

Prop I don't want to start anything so lets just drop this flame crap! I mean if you are going to try and put down what someone likes at least spell the words in your post correctly ie. "rite"! If we get the source for EAW (which I pray everynight we will) I will make sure that there are moving control surfaces!

And that is true the Geometry hasn't been broken. When the planes from EAW are imported the nasty DOS prop comes with them along with the fogged up windows. But I will take what I can get. By the way does anyone have an extra copy of SDOE that I can buy for cheap. It is still 39.99 here in TX!

EAW is a very good game, I think most here reconize that. It's just that for many SDOE has the nails to scratch the itch.

It always depends on what are the most important features a sim has, that determines if your going to like it.

I hope when you get SDOE it is able to scratch your itch.

By the way, where is Texas do you live?
