Spanky here.. What kind of planes are their? If ya can get anything of a p40 Any model that would be great. Close ups of the bottom and gear and cockpit mostly maybe around the engine. Not sure if thats what you mean but that would be cool. Canopy too hehe even if from outside so i can get a picture of whats going on with it. IP: Logged |

They don't have one now, but Dulles might. They have a spit, a MC.202, a Mustang, and a 190. More info is available at: http://www.nasm.edu They also have a few WWI birds, and some interm birds. I'm going to shoot the Zeppelin model they have. If I do see *anything* on the P-40, I'll shoot it for you. I almost forgot I have a buttload of Dauntless picts from there . Sorry about not remembering! IP: Logged |

I'll rummage around and see (gotta find them first ). I'll take a few more while I am there. They have this Navy aircraft room dedicated to planes and carriers. So neat.IP: Logged |

Spanky here... Take a look in the Navy room for a seafire or seafury. I'm mostly interested in parts you don't ussually see in pics like the tail hook and gear and underneath. Some one mentioned seeing on the prop info about the min and max prop angle that would be cool to know and you wouldn't have to waste film on them just write it down. I'm sure Tail would love to have that info.

Unfortunately they lacked a Seafury/fire in the navy room, but I did snag about the best pictures I could of the twin 50 mount in the rear of the dauntless. I found myself having to leave after only going through the WWI and navy room as my wife wasn't feeling good. With about 10 people per square foot, I was getting a bit cramped myself. I almost snagged a plane directory from the bookstore as it did have 75% of the three views for the planes the museaum had, but once again, my wife ran interference. On another note, I did locate my WPAFB Museam picts of a P-40 (I'll look in the guide book I have for the model) and of an Army dauntless (not that many, nor is the quality there). I'm going to have to sort and label the plane picts I have and post them somewhere someday. The film will be developed one day for todays trip, when it does, I'll post. I need a digital camera (come on SLR's). IP: Logged |

Whirl,From what I understand, the Smithsonian has actual blueprints (probably in the form of microfilm) of Warbirds. They might not be in a very coherent form, though, since different factories handled different parts... so, it could be a total waste of time. Anyway, maybe you should ask around and see what you can find out about that stuff. I would love to get my hands on actual blueprints. I tried their website, but the info was very limited last I checked. IP: Logged |

Actually, the archives are closed to the public during renovations, but you can email request it from off the NASM site. I've already bugged them about the Staaken. The materials aren't free, (cost of duplication, ect) but they'll be decent.IP: Logged |

They look like 50s don't they?! But EVERY source I have tells me that they are 30s.Do you have any way to get those pictures scanned? IP: Logged |

I've got a scanner, just don't have them developed yet. If they are 30's they are really big 30's. At over 3 feet long and at least 1 inch on the barrel, they look like really big 30s . Probably just are a set of brownings (that also was a big 30).IP: Logged |
