I just found a site that offers FREE DSL CONNECTION. They state that you can dowload, browse, and game 50 times faster than a regular dial up connection. The DSL is operated thru your regular phone lines so there is no extra lines to run.As I am somewhat a dumb butt when it comes to computers, is this too good to be true or does it actually work? Will it cut down on my lag when flying? If you want to check it out, please click on the link, if it works. just click here to get more information.

Uhh, that link goes to some broswer add on thing. Nothing about DSL.

Hmmm, Free DSL, that must be to good to be true. As far as quality, alot things may affect your DSL conection speed. The line quality to your home, in your, traffic on the net at a particular time, devices connected in your home, how far your home is away from the providers hub station. Lots of stuff. You may not even be able to get DSL in your area.

Will it help your online lag, maybe. Its not all the connection that cause lag. Your system may be a big part of the problem. But a fast connection couldnt hurt.

I'd suggest you call who ever is offering this. If they are a reputable company, they will have a real phone number that you can call for information on the services available.

Heya,

Just checked it out. Hmm, sounds like freeInet. That means banners and pop ups. You will have to use their browser thing aswell as buy your own DSL modem. Also you need a ether net card with that modem. Atleast mine had to have one.

I have heard mostly bad stuff about FreeInet. Its slow and lots of busy singals. DSL can get slow to with alot of users using the same hub station. This is probably the part where "You get what you pay for" I could be wrong, but it's probably not worth it.

me and the missus over in Detroit have been thinking bout DSL, especialy since @home.com (cable provider) capped the service at 1.5MB/s, it sounds good don't it, I took alook at that site a week of so ago, but although the cable is capped, the thing is, it's also garunteed because of it, they capped the service at that speed to stop the whole service being lagged by high users, ppl running FTP sites etc etc, so I'd have to say, cable still seems the way to go for me, yes slower than DSL is reported at.. by a long way infact, but a garunteed 1.5mb/s throughput is easily enough for lag free game for you (only if your hosting ofcourse.. the host you connect through could be lagging don't forget).

We'll be keeping up to dat about DSL though.. you got to when it's that damn fast.. lol

Thanks for the input. I have been waiting for cable to reach my area but has not made it yet as I live in a rural area. I do have satilite but it is very expesnsive going that route. I went ahead and signed up for the free DSL, I'll give it a try after all FREE ain't too expensive.

Just for info, guys....I have DSL, and no, it really doesn't cut down on lag....but it screams on downloads, which is a big part of this sim, eh? I will say it has helped my personal lag to others, but not always theirs to me, and the providers of DSL and who they are affiliated with have as much to do with your connection as anything else.

I use one of the Bells ( Pac..hehe ) and they have at least 2 problems a week. If you are thinking of DSL, or cable, you may want to check www.dslreports.com, www.speedguide.net, www.timhiggins.com, or www.live2wire.com, among many. Hope this helps.

Just another thought, the number of jumps your service takes to reach a destination is also a big factor.
