Beta yes, progress.... I don't know. It seems that some of the sounds (many of the sounds) are way too low in the volume department, and I don't know why considering that they're the same volume as the other countries. ARGH! Worst of all I have no time for anything in the next week and a half because of a few 'real life' things. I'm away from my email, but I'm hoping for a progress update from Jeeves tonight. You're welcome to beta test, but it won't do you a whole lot of good because the russian sounds are hard to hear. I should know after speaking with Jeeves how much longer this $#^%@$^%@#$% release is going to take... My apologies to those who are waiting ever so patiently... Jeeves here...Well- if you're hoping I know how to fix it, I believe you'll be sorely disappointed. My specialty was making new squads and arranging medals, ranks, etc. Sounds were really coordinated by Werner and Poodle until recently... with Lector's help. I haven't heard from Poodle yet so you know about as much as I do. Maybe we should release it Werner (IOW put it at BCATP) and maybe someone could fix that one small problem like they did with the Corsair? Another problem I noticed in the beta was with the medals- when the name is particularly long, the text is cut off in the pic when you earn it. IP: Logged |

Me again...If anything I would release Japan for now...there is a Zero, Corsair, and Lightning in the game...with a Wildcat and Dauntless to follow. Doesn't seem right to make these good people listen to German pilots in their Zeros when the Japanese wavs came out so good (tip o the hat to Siggi!). We should also make sure the new Japanese squads make it too so they have realistic squads to use. Italy and the SU can wait a little while (especially since there are no planes to fly yet...unless demand is high for them)- there really seems to be just a minor touch-up! IP: Logged |

I haven't worked on the project since I uploaded the beta (Jeeves, Werner, if you want to make it public post the adres I send you with e-mail here, or upload it yourselves with an updated readme) and it seems quite bugfree, except for that volume problem. We could just pump up the wav files' volumes, and maybe loose a bit of quality.cu, Poodle ------------------ Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's a Flying Poodle ! IP: Logged |

A few months ago, right after Gunjam's sounds came out, someone posted a link to a small utility to adjust .wav file sound levels, because of some complaints that Gunjams sounds were too loud. I'm not at home or I could be more specific but I downloaded it and it worked great. If anyone is interested email me and I will send it to you.IP: Logged |

Heya Jerry-If I wasn't so dense on using these things, I'd jump on it...but it sounds like a good fix for the problem. Thanks!! Heya Poodle... I would post that URL, but as soon as I got the beta, I think I deleted that e-mail. :P Maybe Werner still has it? IP: Logged |

Oohh, I'll test it for you =) My russian files work fine =) Also I have a skin to finish for that plane and it'd be helpful to have the current model for alignment.------------------ Zoycite {GS} GUNSLINGERS visit The War Paint Factory IP: Logged |

Cool Zoy, once I get ahold of the nations beta and switch the Yak over to Russia (and finish some FM updates), we can give it a go. I finished the dash, un-mirrored the textures on the wings and stabs, and got the LODs more or less done( I get 30fps in a 16 yak dogfight ) Still far from finished but I imagine I'll just keep improving this plane and help on OPP projects rather than start any more. These WW2 jobbies are too much work for a guy to do by himself. TS IP: Logged |

Nations has been released at the BCATP (and soon, I'm sure, at the Flying Poodle site, when Poodle is able to). Please read the note next to the download!! It is important that the releases of this project be more or less centralized to ensure no overwriting or other bugs. (If you've followed the development of this project, you'll know why this controls are necessary ). Please note that this is the beta, and it is being released because of community and scheduling pressures. I have always stated that a nations beta would not be in the best interests of the community, and I still believe that. With that in mind, please do not be too critical of this work, as it is not finished and is only being released for testing purposes. Sorry to be a downer about that, but it had to be said. Anyway, enjoy! Werner P.S. Go to the nations page of the BCATP (duh, right?) ------------------ DOWNLOADS+PILOT ROSTER+FAN SITE INNOVATION=B.C.A.T.P. Visit Today! IP: Logged |

I was thinking... Doesn SDOE support national characters? (ÅÄÖ) for instance? Would it be any interest in a Swedish nation :-)IP: Logged |

I got a program from Voyetra with which I can boost up the volume of the wav's up to 200%. Maybe there are better programs on the market which can do all them files at once? I'll post the Nations file on my site later on when I find the time. But for a beta one download server will have to do for now. About those weird swedish characters, it could be possible SDOE could do that. To find out, you should get the SDOE font out of the X:\...\SDOE\Media\Gui\Fonts folder and place it in your windows font folder at the configuration screen. Then check out in word if all those special letters would work. I don't know how to make those letters myself so I can't test it out for you. But, I just copied that A with the circle from your text into word and changed the font to "typewriter" (from SDOE) and it shows the letter A with a little stripe on top of it instead of a circle. The Ö and Ä do work fine. Other way to test those swedish letters is type them in the SDOE online server's messages.Cu, Poodle ------------------ Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Sorry, I had to try it.Great job to all involved. Siggi, great work! I have only tried the Japanese, but it's worth the price of admission alone. Can't wait to give the other Nations a go! It would be really cool, if we could include in the Real Audio clips at the beginning some audio from Japanese propoganda brodcast. Maybe Tokyo Rose. Do these recording even still exsist? A while back a fellow emailed me a file of FDR talking about the Pacific war. The Dec8th declaration of war, I believe. (If I search my HD I probably still have it) I think that in one of the parfiles there is a place to add this stuff. I can't do it right now, but if someone wants to give this a try we can include it under the 'nations' project umbrella. Umlauts cause problems online. *sigh* Okay, but is there any interest of a swedish nation anyway? We had the mosquito during the war, as well as Mustang from 1945. I'll head on over to the Swedish Ai Force museum where I've worked as a guide. I'll see what stuff I can dig up... I'll probably start on some swedish skins anyway! :-) Werner or Jeeves, could you get in touch with me? mail me at alexander.arvidsson@ifsab.se[This message has been edited by Alexander (edited 03-03-2000).] IP: Logged |

If you unpar the data1 parfile check out the Gui\Sounds folder. It contains all the sounds which you hear while you're in the game but not flying. There are 3 folders inside it: Gui\Sounds\Page: Contains all the sounds which you hear when you click a button to go to another page. They sound like turning a page. Gui\Sounds\Radio: The very large wav files which contain the music and news broadcasts. Gui\Sounds\Tuner: The sounds you hear when they're "switching" the radio channel to another broadcast or some other music. If you hear "RadioTuning06" you'll hear a little bit of Russian while they're tuning. The Radio files, which are most usefull to us, are all called "Radio#0X" (with X = 1-7). I think we can just add a Radio#08 or higher and have some new German/Japanese/Russian/Italian broadcasts. I think we definitely have to add germany as one of the first since there aren't even any german radio sounds now. If we were to make new radio broadcasts I think we should keep them out of the Nations pack, since the wav files are extremely large in size and they're not necessary for playing the game. Alexander - I'll email you some info about how to get started a little later tonight. It would help (you) enormously if you could track down some people (not SDOEers even) that could help you record wavs, research squads and gather graphics. The project coordination team can help with missions, sound manipulation (once recorded) and miscellaneous other stuff, but you'll have to look after the first part yourself, hence the suggestion for assistance.Poodle- Thanks for the info, point taken. I took a look at my Air Force during the war. Seems that Sweden bought P51's and Mosquitos as surplus in 1945. Guess I'll have to make a somewhat post-war nation :-) Anyway, I'll get down to creating the graphics first. Werner, did you send me that mail, by the way?IP: Logged |
