When I started with SDOE I found some texture errors in the game with TNT2 cards.

i.e. the gunsight looks like this:

today I did some work on my I16 low detail lods and after reducing the wings to 2 flat (but not planar) polys (aligned together with vertex snap) I got the same strange oscilating efects in OPS and SDOE:

So maybe reposition the "infected" polys could solve the problem (it works for me on the wings). When I finished the I-16 I will test this out (and if it works it could be a nice small addition to the Planepack).

If someone is interested in this or if someone got the same problems just post something in here.

Yah, I get the same problems with my TNT... as well most (if not all) TNT users get the jagged cliffs of dover and the screwed-up bunkers + castles.... is it possible that your finding could solve all these very annoying grafics issues with TNT based products? I sure as hell hope so.
Good find, hope it works =)

Wow, Laika... that plane has really come along nicely. Glad you have been able to solve most of the techincal problems that were plaguing you early on. Have you got a cockpit going yet?

Since we're talking about the TNT2, graphics are good (except as stated above), but on my machine the text (once the mission is running) is not sharp, and tends to be somewhat 'blocky' Anyone else seen this (anyone fixed this?) Yes I have the latest drivers as well as a flash bios upgrade from the mfg.... No joy.
Help...

The new patch (if it ever gets debugged) fixes the jaggies along the cliffs of dover. I too am seeing strangeness with my LOD's as I zoom in and out. I just used the 3dsmax optimize command to generate them though maybe I'll have more luck making the LODs by hand.

I also got the corrupted text and I think no one found a way to fix this ...

I also did some testing last night - I removed the nonplanar polys and rebuild them per hand (=100% flat) but still the same errors. I think I will make them a bit konkav to fix this - weŽll see (so much work for some polys you hardly can see in the game ).

Spanky here..

I don;'t know how you guys can put up with that stuff.

I run a voodoo in glide. I tried d3d and just hated it.

I'm not putting down your guys boards. Just saying.

I'm only using a banshee and i'm sure for lots of other stuff a tnt2 would rock.

Did I say "it works for me" ? - PAHH !
I tried all things I know, I fixed the normals, completly rebuild the whole part 5 times and nothing helped. It seems the only way I found is to make enought space between the two polys wich represent the up- and downside of the flat wing or whatever object. One thing is strange, my rudder is 100% flat - 2 polys aligned together with vertex snap on and it looks fine. So I really dont know whats the matter for that oscilating effects on the other parts.

Spanky - sure, the TNT2 rocks - but not for SDOE (Framerates down to 10 FPS in some cases) :-[

About the screwed up text, theres a way to fix it.... you just have to fiddle with the Texel Aligment value. You can alter this under most TNT drivers.. Its found under your cards additional properties/d3d settings/advanced section. My texel alignment value is at 3, and it works fine - however this may be different with other cards.. so just fiddle around till you find the right setting. About the tearing effect all TNT users see... I prey to god we find a way to fix this... for me it's by far the biggest grafical issue in the game.

Dan, what improvements did you see going from a 12 mb V2 to a G-Force? FPS, resolution, reduction in blocky graphics, etc.? What CPU do you have?

Cpt. Canuck -

Thanks for the tip on the jagged text. Worked like a charm, crisp clear text and even helped with jaggies on the cliffs.

BTW - For anyone with a Viper770, try adjusting your texel setting to 4 - default is 3. Helped immensly on mine.

Captain Canuck -
Suggestion for text fix worked for me also (had to set the value to 0 for my machine....). Now hopefully someone can fix the jaggies on the cliffs.

Jerry,

Let me put it to you this way. I no longer have my V2 in my system. It means that I can't mess with Longbow 2 or F15 anymore, but I can live without it.

As far as SDOE goes, you get alot higher resolution. The framerates are better and so is the color. But you still get the warped terrain and a little bit of blockiness, but not much.

As far as other games, there is no comparison. Running EAW at 1280x1024 is spectacular...much better than a V2 in glide and it doesn't slow down as much when you get near all the bombers and flak. It's great.

Honestly, I can't see anywhere that a V2 comes close to a geforce. But they are two different generations of cards. A V3 would be a better option, if you must run Glide in games. I don't use glide because I think the picture quality sucks. But thats just me.

If you have the money, get a geforce.

I have a SDR version and a p3 450.....soon to be a 650+

YEAH ! Thanks Captain CanucK for the tip with the text !

When I work on the gunsight for my plane I will tell you if subface nesting will fix the error.
