Poodle - AMAZING site!!! Is that opener Macromedia Flash? I love it! Do you have any of that music in mp3 files? We have very similar tastes (and good ones too, I might add )

Awesome!!

Hi guys,

I'm glad you like it. The opener, banner and the sound button are all macromedia Flash. It's really a great programm and after you get the hang of it it's so easy to do.
The files are also very small. The new banner with Flash is smaller than the old rollover gif-file banner. And it looks much better too.
Most of the music is on mp3 too I guess. But I copied small wav files from CD's and then imported into Flash 4 which converts it to mp3. Makes a 300 kb wave file about 23 kb with the on/off button.
This music style is really popular in Holland (and England, etc. too) at the moment. If you hold your mouse over the next/previous buttons you'll see what the name on the next/previous song will be. Eg: The first one is called "Mary go wild" made by "Grooveyard". You can try searching the names in altavista or something like that. I'll try and search for you too.

Cu,
Poodle

Poodle- Do you have Napster? If so, what's your username and I'll add you to my hotlist so when you're online I can download from you and you don't have to do anything for me (except keep collecting cool mp3s for yourself). Also, have you heard of a guy named Chris Sheppard? He's the biggest house music DJ in Canada, and on his radio program he talks about European club culture a fair bit.

I haven't got Napster, but I don't really know what it is. Do you mean you can search through all my files on my pc when I'm on the internet? I don't know if I would really like that, especially if my Napster address (???) would fall in wrong hands? Tell me where to get it, I'll check out the site.

And I haven't heard of Chris Sheppard. In Holland the dance scene is really big now. It all started late 80's/begin 90's when bands like 2Unlimited brought the "House music", which was a big commercial succes. The dance scene was only in the big clubs and the underground then. Then from the "House" we got the "Hardcore/Rave/Gabber" music, which is a kind of monotone 180 bps music. Groups like "Party Animals" got big hits with this in Holland and I don't know if you ever heard of the "Thunderdome" CD's? There were sold millions of those as thousands of kids became "Gabbers". After 2 years the "Gabber" got out of style and dance music became very popular, followed by trance. It is very commercial now, and Dance remixes are flooding the Dutch charts at the moment. DJ Jean (the leading dutch DJ) now has his CD "Jeanpagne" at the no.7 spot.
If you go to my site and press previous twice you'll hear DJ Jean's no.1 hit "The Launch".
I'm glad more people on the Internet like dance music. I always had the idea everyone here was listening to all that alternative *beep* (I just wan't to spare myself a flame war).

Check this site:

http://toplyrics.webhostme.com/mp3.htm

Download the no.2 song: Scoop - Drop it:

http://members-americas.tripod.com/smash11/simo285/scoop.ps

It's no.2 now in the Dutch charts, and I like the song a lot. Just open the ps file in Winamp.

Poodle- It's not as scary as all that. I can only search 1 subdirectory that you designate as your mp3 directory. Napster is just a way of sharing mp3s among users on the internet. I believe the url is www.napster.com .

I haven't heard of DJ Jean, but according to Chris Sheppard "Holland is the hotbed of club culture this year". Woohoo! "House Music will never die!" -Brooklyn Bounce

Hey guys.
Napster is a GENIUS of a little program that in essence sets your machine up to be an ftp server and will let you define exactly which directories others can browse through. One problem though, you won't ever be on the same server. The chances are a million to one. I have hotlisted fiftysome users, but when I or they log off they never return to the same server. There are quite a few napster servers going, and the largest one I've been on was some 1900 gigs. But remember, share and share alike! By the way, the security issues that versed on the net were in fact BOGUS. www.napster.com /faq will set you straight.
I'm happy to say that I've quintupled my Kraftwerk collection. ))

Poodle- I was listening to some tapes of mine and I heard Chris Sheppard mention this song 'the launch' by DJ Jean. Wow! Now I know who he is: I love his stuff!

I checked out Napster and it sounds cool. I'm downloading at the moment.
I haven't got much mp3 files though. I usually buy music on CD's. I also don't totally agree with all the mp3's and CD copying nowadays. Those musicians have to make a living and I think they earned my welspend money.
But, most of the music we have here is usually not available in Canada, and vise versa, so if someone knew a programm which could convert my CD music to mp3 we could swap eachothers music. Not like we would have bought the music oursekves anyway.
Maybe you also heard about DJ Tiësto? I heard him play 2 times and he's real good. He's very popular at the moment. Also DJ Jurgen is popular, and he's especially scoring real high in England (eg Better of Alone).

Maybe you've heard of the "Innercity" parties? There are 2 real good CD's on the market from the performances of DJ Tiësto and Ferry Corsten.

Poodle,

For a program to convert CD's to Mp3's, try Real Jukebox. You can get it at www.real.com

It's great. It is also an mp3 player. And better still, it's FREE!

Over and out,
Peregrine

Thanks Peregrine, that's just what I needed. There goes my conscience.

Also about mp3's, is it illegal to up-/download mp3's? Or does it depend what nation your server's from? Don't know if it would be illegal in Holland... What is?

I've also put 3 new songs on my page, it's the first one and the 2 before that one (press on "previous" twice to hear them all).

Poodle- I've heard of DJ Tiesto and "Better off Alone" (Although not of DJ Jurgen). I've also heard of Ferry Corsten, Chris Sheppard talked about him a few times the other night on his show. Have you heard of Love Inc? I'm not sure what you mean by innercity parties. Are those like our "raves"? Also, my understanding of the legality is that you have to modify the track somehow (add a few pops or scratches) so that it's not 100% the work of the original artist (lame, but that's the status quo).

RealJukebox and Napster are working fine now, but I haven't got the time for all the mp3 converting of my CD's now.
The Innercity parties are just huge dance parties in big exhibition halls. The only have been 2 yet, with big succes, and they're going to do a european tour. The last 2 were both in the Amsterdam RAI, which is a huge building where also things like motor of boats shows are being held. I think they're making a CD of every event, since they did so the last 2 times. They pick the best performance for the CD.
I haven't been to any of the 2 Innercity parties but if you knew what is going on out there you might not be so surprised.
I might have heard of Love Inc, sounds familiar. However I don't know what your "raves" are. Are they such big parties too?
About the mp3 thing, I assume I won't be caught anyway, so won't take the trouble of mixing some weird sounds into the songs.

After my exams we should meet in Napster sometime, and exchange some music, would be cool.

Poodle - Meeting in Napster would be great, although as Kraftwerk explained that may be difficult. In any case, add "WernerMolders" to your hotlist, and if I'm on the same server as you it will say so. Since we probably won't be able to link up, would you mind posting a list of good european trance tracks on your site (once your exams and everything are done)? That way I, and others, can find the tracks on Napster ourselves. I will do the same, if I can ever figure out what all my favourite songs on the radio are called!

"Rave" is a catch-all term for parties ranging from large, legally-sanctioned dance parties (like the electric circus putting one on in front of the Canadian Parliament a little while ago ) to large, illegal parties in converted warehouses or other large areas that end up being busted up by cops because of drugs and stuff. I haven't been to any myself, but one of my good friends is a raver and a break-dancer, so he goes fairly regularly.
