Just DL'd 5.3 zip off from Combatsim.comTotalled unistalled 5.3 beta.....everything first. Reloaded CD of SDoE, then applied the patch, and lastly the Zip of 5.3 Checked to make sure Data14 & 15 par files were not in the FS directory, they weren't. I did see 12 & 13 in there. Fired up the game,NO EXTRA Aircraft. Its the original game,no go with the ZIP. Reinstalled the 5.3 zip again.....same result Question is, has anyone Reinstalled the game/patch/5.3 zip off from Combatsim and got it work? Thanks Rattler I patiently await............... ;0 IP: Logged |

Good LuckJust as with PP5.3 beta 8 ,I'm also experiencing the Pilots info not saving once you've left the game and re-fired it up. Again,is it only my box? Think I'll go take some anti-depressants. Rattler IP: Logged |

Rattler,How many .par have you got after installing the pp5.3? there should be 5. Data1.par, Data2.par, Data3.par and new ones. Is that correct? If so, the problem isn't due to a corrupted archive.

Rattler, Whew- I did the same download off Combatsim and got the same result. New install, patch 1.5, PP5.3. Now I have just the original game's aircraft. I was wondering if we were just supposed to install on top of PP5.2 or something. Maybe the file is corrupt. Hope someone comes up with an answer. As a matter of fact- I was coming back to the forum to see if anyone else had this problem. Just wanted to let you know that you weren't the only one- maybe I'm not totally crazy. Another question-- in the read me its says to make sure you have the “Use folder names” box checked. What's being referred to here? Please be sure, you have unzipped Data12.par, Data13.par and startup.ppf in SDOE/media folder. It should work. I don't think, they have zipped a special version for combatsim.

ArthurQ,If you're using Winzip, when you double click on a ZIP it displays the contents of the ZIP. If you click on the Extract button, a dialog comes up asking where you want to extract to and has some other options. "Use folder names" is one of the options, and it has a checkbox next to it. For example, your extract to directory should be "C:\Program Files\Fighter Squadron" or wherever you have SDOE installed. If you don't have the "Use folder names" option checked, all of the files will be installed straight to your main Fighter Squadron directory instead of going in the proper subdirectory. For example, data12.par and data13.par would be extracted to "\Fighter Squadron" instead of "\Fighter Squadron\Media". -=TheReaper=-

STef,Damn you're quick! I just realized that I had responded to the wrong person just after I posted, so I went back and changed it. But it's like I said, you're just too fast for me... hehe. I didn't have any problems with the ACE versions either. Except that I had to get WinACE as well... but since the PP was first posted in ACE format, that's what I got! -=TheReaper=- [This message has been edited by ReaperMan (edited 02-19-2000).] IP: Logged |

Download completed.Unzipped...fired up game...and DOH no new aircraft! Went for a look and guess what ? silly me unzipped it to C:\program files\fighter Squadron and not the media folder. So I just moved data12,data13 and startup files across to the media and everything works fine so far. In fact I like the Lanc.... I'm gunna put a Jap skin on it and call it a Fiat B.R.20 (Yi-shiki). This flew in the Sino-Japanese War. Well done everyone ! Cheers, AGAS 5

Hey Guys,Thanks for all the quick responces. I've got some answers and more questions... First time,I used the Wizard feature in zip, the second time I used Classic, and the two boxs showed up in the dialog, and I had both checked, one of them was the box "use folder names" Same problem........ But,I did as Stef suggested, and he was right, the Par12,Par13 and startup.ppf were in the FS directory, and not in the Media. Par files 1,2,and 3 are in the Media alone. I moved 12,13 and the .ppf file into the Media directory, fired up SDoE and Shazam,I now see the other aircraft(as I did with beta 8) So,Either the Zip at Combatsim is hosed or my version of Winzip is hosed. Gotta be one or the other,As I'm ABSOLUTELY sure both boxes were checked. I'm almost done Dl'ing the EXE from the FighterSquadron.com so I didn't actually try a flight sincing moving the files, but I will. Thanks Rattler

Ok I removed datapar 14 + 15 and installed 5.3. No new aircraft have appeared. What are the files that come with the zip, the full list? Must you re-install from scratch to run it or something? SnakeIP: Logged |

I installed the zip from combatsim this morning, using a temp directory and copied the needed files over...so far, all works fine. ------------------ nealg=FC=

There's no paths in the Zips, so if you unzip with "use subdirs" or whatever it's called the par files end up in the main folder. Just unzip the parfiles directly into the media folder and everything should be allright.Cheers! / Cpt Farrel IP: Logged |

The directions DO STATE..............Unpack to C:\Program Files\Fighter Squadron and NOT the media folder. Maybe the directions need to be updated or the Zip just unpacks to the wrong folders. Gotta be one or the other. Either way it does work, after moving files around.Just gotta find out if the pilot info saves correctly after exiting the game. Its probably related to other files not going into the correct folders. Well, the exe is done DL'ing. I'll now try to fly the aircraft around Beta 8 worked great and I was very pleased with it. Thanks for a great update! Just hope to get the unpacking thing sorted out to avoid problems with prospective new folks trying out the game for the first time. Rattler IP: Logged |

Yes Rattler, the ZIP file is probably not extracting the .par files into the Media directory like it should. And the Readme does say to extract to "\Fighter Squadron".I wrote the Readme, Razer ZIPped and uploaded the file. When I asked before release he said it should be extracted to the "\Fighter Squadron" path. What I think happened is that somehow the folder info didn't get into the zip, and this should be fixed to avoid any more mix-ups. What's funny is that originally the Readme said to extract to "\Fighter Squadron\Media" but I changed it according to what Razer told me and what makes more sense. I'm sure Razer meant to include the directory info so it would extract everything to the right place. Sorry for any inconveniences -=TheReaper=- IP: Logged |

Thanks guys. Mine got unzipped into the main directory and not media. I thought I'd followed the read me. I guess all the other plane packs have always been unzipped into the media folder. I should've known better. Anybody know what to name the Spit MkVb folder in our aircraft folder in order to get the newer spit cockpit and meatwater's soundpack to work. I've got the spitIXe working - the Spit1a's meatwater sounds work but the new cockpit textures went bananas on me. I don't get anything happening with the MkVb-so I figured I'm naming the folder incorrectly. Any ideas? By the way, thanks ReaperMan. I now understand the "use folders name" option thing. I appreciate that explanation AQ [This message has been edited by ArthurQ (edited 02-19-2000).]
