Opinions please guys. Razer and I are discussing replacing the default A-4 with MPosis's new version currently named the A-3.

The differences are:

* Correctly modelled canopy and cowling.
* Correctly mapped textures (it will take approx 30mins to convert existing skins to fit the new mapping correctly - no mirrored textures and crappy upper cowling distortion )
* Shares the sliding canopy and cockpit textures of the A-8 (so is pretty texture efficient - I can see no difference between this FPS with this version and the default A-4)

What has not changed:

* FM is the same as the A-4 in PP5.3b8
* Missions with A-4 will not have to be changed.

So what do you guys think? We can include essentially 2 A-4s, one called a A-3, but I personally think this a waste of HD space and you will need to sets of textures and modified missions to fly it.

Opinions.......

I need to know which it is also.

Personally I think the current A4 should be replaced as long as it has the updated FM by Tailslide, and everything else the same as the A4.
But doesn't this kinda make yours (Yardstick) and Mposis' work on the old A4 in vain?

I hope it's not too much trouble to get the textures updated, because I think that this should be included in the PlanePack.
Either included, or not included, but not included as the A3

As I said above, yes it does the current PP5.3b8 FM (yes by Tailslide) the only differences are visual. And no the skins are not difficult to update - 30 mins max (the JG3 version in the screenshots on the earlier thread took me 20 mins to modify).

My honest opinion is that NO aircraft in SDOE should be replaced at all ever. I fully agree with improving the FM etc to make it more realistic to the true aircraft, but never remove it. I would rather have SDOE where I can pick which version of an aircraft I want to fly, rather than what I'm given, after all, isn't that what it's all about, you guys building new aircraft. If Razer is building an A3 great, I love the 190, but why shouldn't we have an A3 and an A4, with any of the aircraft in sdoe, the more choice the more we like it, and not only that, if we decided to build historic missions we can have the correct model for the time period/battle.

I say keep them both seperate, and give everybody more choice. I really honestly don't know what the differences are in the 2 models, but I'm always glad of more choice, I'm sure others are too.

The A-3 and the A-4 are almost identical (the A-3 had 4 x MGFF the A-4 2 x MGFF and 2 x MG151). Having 2 in the pack is a waste of space. The new A-4 is not so much a replacement as an enhancement of the original.

I see this as no diferent from adding a correctly rotating turret to the Lanc, modifing the FM or correct texture mapping to another aircraft.

I'm all for improving the planes but when I was working on my plane I noticed that max is incapable of exporting to .obj anything better than quads (not full polys). If someone were to do updates of an existing plane with max just the process of exporting and importing the parts could drastically increase the poly count and lower FPS. I'd like to have a choice of not using any updates that increase the poly count of the default planes that come with the game.

Of course if you're not using max it's not an issue I would assume..

My vote is to replace it.
It's better to have only one good plane.
My HD agrees with me.

The new A-4 model is an excellent improvement. I don't see any issue in replacing the original SDOE Fw190A with it.

It has all the texture and shape fixes we've waited for. And a moving canopy.

Spanky here...

As long as it doesn't hurt the FPS and its a better plane visualy and FM wise i say dump the shipped plane.

There have been a lot of unforseen bugs with new planes. For example I still have two pilots bailing out of my He162 and Go229 after several "fixes". Has this "new" A4 been thoroughly tested over time by more than one or two people? If not I say keep it separate. If we delete the shipped A4 and decide later that the new A4 causes problems can we get the shipped A4 back? And how long will it take to fix all the current A4 skins? Half an hour each X ? X someone's free time. Let's be careful here.

I would prefer the new one.
From what I read and what others don't seem to get, is.....
The only change is that we will have the updated version of the A4 with better textures and better cockpit.
AFIAC the only thing different then what was already planned is the fact that the textures will be correct, finally. Replace the old one ship this one.

Has this been tested with multiple aircraft on-screen?
