OK- so I have Pete's moving Saratoga carrier and it is great! BUT...when it is set up as a bombing target for the Zeros (as in my Midway campaign), it has moved out of the target area by the time the Zeros get there. Is there anyplace I can get the original stationary carrier? Thanks!

Jeeves what if ya anticipate where the carrier is heading( i assume u give it waypoints) Then give the attacking planes a wider area of attack or have them attack the waypoint the carrier is heading to and have em wait a while in case ur timing not right

The only problem with that is I am recreating the first bomb attack on the Yorktown where it wasn't completely destroyed. We can't do partial damage, so I have renamed a klaxon on the carrier as the "Yorktown"- it is indestructable and so no matter how many bombs fall, the "Yorktown" will still be there. The problem is that the carrier floats away leaving behind a klaxon in the middle of the ocean- so the Zeros are bombing this klaxon while the carrier gently floats in the distance. So, I want the stationary one back (at least for now).

Thanks Pete...sorry to be a pain...but until I figure out how to adjust for the movement, I'll stick with the old model.

I'm sorry, but this one really made me giggle... lol, just imaging all those zero's bombing a klaxon out at sea Hope you get is fixed up Jeeves, sounds a good one to me. If you can tell me how to get the darn things moving I'd be pleased, they're stationary for me, and I was pretty sure I got the folder names right

Well I figured out the main problem when I jumped into a Zero- as I got close to the moving Saratoga, I hit padlock- and was locked on the carrier's original position, which was by that point just empty ocean...so as far as "padlock tracking", the focus is on the starting position and doesn't follow the carrier as it travels away...there must be a way to fix this though, right? I mean- padlock tracks a moving plane, so why wouldn't it track a moving ground object?

Because in this instace, the ground object is just moving it's flaps, so to speak, and isn't actually 'moving' in the terms of the game engine. A thougn might be to rename the carrier as a whole to 'Essex Class Carrier' in the .ppf file, and name it 'Yorktown' in the mission editor. You might want to turn the Zero into sucky pilots, since only like 6 'Vals??' out of 14 made it through the CAP screen.

They just had a show on Midway on PBS this weekend. I think by the time the second wave of attackers hit the Yorktown, they had landed, refueled, and launched their CAP, and recovered their first wave of attackers. It sort of freaked the Japanese out a bit.

Jeeves'

Have you tried putting the Zeros on Sweep for the area the carrier should be? They SHOULD atleast straff the carrier.

Just an idea.

All you should have to do Nat is keep F5ing until you see a moving carrier. The first one may not be moving. (remember I said there are a few "copies" floating around the current game map you have it placed in.

Uh Whirlwind-

I know for a fact that my carrier is moving...I placed that klaxon as I said earlier on the carrier and then F5'ed to it...within seconds, the klaxon was left behind by the carrier and was sitting in the middle of the ocean alone.

I have already renamed the carrier "Yorktown" and also have an Enterprise and Hornet in there.

Jag- I'll give that a shot and see what happens.

Are you using DOF's to move it? Then it would be like moving a flap or a rudder on a plane, just translation and rotational. There is a base object that goes no where, right? I don't think that objects placed on top of other objects will move (maybe if you put a wheel at the bottom of the klaxton or something).

Anyways, the AI isn't agressive enough to hunt targets down on their own so prediction waypoints are your best bet. Heck, the AI isn't agressive enough to bomb on their own either (at lest the non-lead planes ).
