That's Right!, The planepack is finished (well one texture is missing and it should be added tonight) Once i get it packed up so people with different conn speeds can get the one they like it will be posted and everyone can enjoy a weekend of 5.3. Which by the way will be the new standard once it's released.
I would like to thank all the people that helped out with testing and all the people that did the new Flight Models and fixed someplanes that shipped with the game.

This is by far the best planepack to ever be released. And i'm not just saying that cuase i was the one working on it.

SDOE takes a big leap with this one. enjoy it people. you've all earned it!!

Things that have been added since Beta8

============ New things==========

FW-190A4 has fixed all the mapping problems. (thanks Yardstick and Mposis)
Spit IX has fixed prop mapping.(also thanks yardstick and Mposis)

P38 has been fixed and is no longer a slow turning bread truck.

all the 109's have been updated to optamize the textures and have historicly accurate cockpits.

Me 262 has a moving cockpit

190 A8 has been updated with the 109's

I'm forgetting something..

**UPDATE**

told yea. the Lanc with fixed front turret IS in this pack.

=========================================

If you want to wait another day i can fix the mapping on the P51D tail and add it. but it's up to you.

there will be a patch come out in the later weeks.

the Mposis crew wants to update the a4 to the same standard as the A8. which i personally would love to see. and i'm planing to completely redo the P51B fuse and add it to the planepack.

a few more things will make it in the patch so we will just have to see.

Enjoy!

A BIG thank you to all those who contributed to this plane pack! It sounds AWESOME!!!

Razer- with the new additions you mentionned, please make sure that it is clear what version of 5.3 is the latest when it gets posted on fan sites, because since there can be a delay between release and posting on some sites newbies and other online junkies may be frustrated by mismatches, or by not knowing if they have the latest version.

(Werner joins the standing ovation for Razer and the 5.3 crew)

Spanky here...

K i thought there was going to be ALOT more done in this pp?

So your saying that the only planes that had any FM work done are the P38 and the 190D?

I thought alot of the planes had better ground handling and that zur had tuned some of the 109s?

AH! this is since beta 8

K so what has been changed since 5.2?

That would be really cool to know and would get more people interested i think.

Is there a readme that says what all got changed?

WOW - this is GREAT.... Thanks so much to all those involved in the project - your work is VERY appreicated.
I just came back onto the SDOE scene after being away for many months and I'm LOVING whats going on - this community is like nothing I've ever seen.
I suppose the next project is going to be fixing the DM (read that somewhere)... I'd love to help with all this advancement, but I dont think I have the computer skills to do so. =(
Anyways, keep up the amazing work, and thanks again to all involved.

SDOE FOREVER!

guys i'm going to need another day. Yardstick is still tracking down the texture problem in the G6, and i'm trying to figure out why the Spit no longer shows up.

I did add Mposis's Fw-190A3 to the pack, just so you all don't have to get it.

sorry for the delay.

I will have a nice README for Razer by tomorrow, so this thing will be that much closer to getting out the door.

I really hope the Spit thing gets figured out. I had a similar problem with the 190A8 not showing up when I had been rebuilding my data12.par.
What's wierd is that when I created an empty directory called Fw190a8, it showed up with all the missions and even loaded fine with no CTD. Wierd.

So when 5.3 becomes the online standard, what does that mean for the new planes being developed that aren't in the 5.3 pack? Are they "not allowed" online, or are they just "fight at your own risk" planes, where 5.3 planes are considered "normal?" Or are we gonna need a 5.4 after the contest ends?

They will still WORK online, right? 5.3 isn't a programming twist that prevents someone from entering, is it? I thought it was more like a "gentleman's agreement" concerning which flight models were in use on a given server. (I'm still pretty ignorant here on how the online FS system is regulated. If there's something I need to "build in" to the F4U flight model-wise, I need to know what pretty soon--although I'd just as soon have someone who knows what the heck they're doin do it)

Jedi,

Yes, you can still use planes that are not in the planepack. The purpose of the planepack is to prevent the dreaded "Aircraft Mismatch" whilst online. Basically it makes sure that everybody who's flying the plane pack has a known set of aircraft and doesnt have to worry about verison mismatchs.

When flying custom planes online you still have to make sure everybody has the same version of the aircraftthat you do - this can be a real pain with the number of planes available out there!

But lets let the guys rest and enjoy for awhile.

The reason that the Plane Pack was devoloped was for online play, and also to make downloading planes a one time effort. This way we don't have to do 12 different downloads to all have the same planes. But between pack releases, planes and objects are released and those that want them , get them, but we decided that the "Online Standard" was to have a plane pack of the most "Finished" planes out there. Also, having only one download makes it nice, and since it is in the .par format, you don't have to worry about if this file or that file is in the wrong folder.... ;}
Yes, I can see that the Plane Packs are going to continue for as long as we are still flying and designing aircraft and objects for this game. But, like I mentioned earlier in this thread, with the number of planes increasing at an ever increasing rate, we may find it to the point where someone could put out a CD that has the entire PP on it for sale. Including patches and whatever else the person that burns the cd would like to see on it.

We thougth about the CD, but it cost money to do that, people don't want to sell the work they've done, people don't want other people to make money off their work. The planepack is (most of the time) updated ever month, menaing the CD would have to be updated everyone month too. It's easyier to download something then wait 3 or 4 days to get it in mail.

Only planes that are considered Complete are placed in theplanepack.

This is planes that have Altered Flight Models to be more realistic. Altered Damage Model. 3D Model that really looks like the plane it's trying to portray. And a Fully working cockpit based on the real plane.

This is what we base planes on in the planepack.

The A-36a and the go-229 was already in the pack when we started going by this standard, and removing them would have cause problems.

Thats the reason for those two planes, still being in the pack.

the P51B could be added. but i'm not real happy witht he fuse and plan to updated it and include it in the 5.3 patch or upcoming 5.4

Hey, I was just wondering - With the new plane pack, am I still gonna be able to fly my B-17 with 70% of both wings missing? hehe - cause thats what I've been doing for the last hour or so... flying around with 2 engines and no wings... I could even land and take off!

The p51b and p51d should fly pretty much identically but they are miles apart. The p51d I can barely loop starting at 350mph and the p51b I can loop at 250 and the handling in spin is much different.. not saying ones right or wrong but they _should_ match each other.

The P51D is not the same plane as the B model. That Merlin engine made it perform like a totally different aircraft. Acceleration, climb rate, max ceiling, ect, ect almost everything that matters.

Erm. The P-51D was the P-51B with a redesigned wing for six machineguns, a bubble hood and the fuselage tank(late B's had that too). The P-51B is actually lighter and faster than the P-51D.

The B and D had almost the same engine, there was only about 20hp difference that balanced out with the small weight difference.

The changes were relatively minor, they didn't have a drastic effect on the handling.
