I've never played SDOE. Plan on picking it up to go along with EAW and WWII Fighters, but I seem to remember some negative comments made about it when it was released about it's F/M. Most notable was that you couldn't stall, has this been fixed? With all the very interesting end user mods out there (particularly the WWI planes would really need this) I would assume that the game is interesting enough to hold ones attention. Any replies appreciated, Joseph Cotton IP: Logged |

Hmm...your name, or the actor?? A fine one, too!!As you have perused this forum a bit, you know many improvements have been made, and continue to occur. When you get the sim, install the 1.5 'official' patch, and Plane Pack 5.2 ( or 5.3 if it is official ); with just those, grab a crate and take it up offline...I think you will be pleasantly surprised! Try them all, check the differences...then search for add ons and mods to your heart's content. Welcome to the 'little' world of SDOE...look forward to meeting you online. ------------------ nealg=FC=

Welcome JC. LOL hold your interest. Since I bought this game I have uninstalled CFS, EAW and Janes WWII. I have flown SDOE almost everyday for months almost a year. It does take some getting used to and it still has some problems but once you get used to it the other sims just do not feel like flying. (Yes in SDOE you feel like you are flying) You will not find a better community of people to help you and support SDOE. Good Luck and I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. Raider {GS} IP: Logged |

Yes, exactly what everyone else said above!Welcome JC Just make sure you get the patchs and give SDoE enough time to set in, brainwashing from one sim to the next takes a little time Rattler The Outlaws Fighter Wing WWII Online Fighter Wing since 1992 IP: Logged |

Hey JC, I tell ya what. I reinstalled EAW last night for a change and all the add-ons, sounds, etc. Then I played it for about an hour or so. I got tired of it and went online with SDOE. It was like putting on a comfortable pair of shoes. When you fire up a plane in SDOE with Meatwateers sounds its really where its at. And with GunJams sounds along with the overall emersion factor of the game, you won't go back. The new PP5.3 is going to be out and I can't wait for the weekend to run'em up. Not to mention the contest going on now. When these planes become available, the selction is going to be awesome. Welcome and good luck. Feel free to drop me a line if need anything. -=BAB=-Gunner IP: Logged |

I think Screaming Demons is truely one of the great flight sims ever! Largely due to the fact that the users control it and it aircraft manafacturing making it more relistic and acuratfe than any company could ever create. However, the one department this game does lack in is the flight model. Some of the aircraft are good but none of them ore dead acurate. I have all difficulty settings on no computer help, full wind, stalls on, torch and so. Yet I have never stalled an aircraft and find it very hard to stall any of them. (except the P-51 which has an excelent flight model...very acurate as one of my friends actualy flew one in WW2!) One of my other friends had been a historian for 51 years into WW1 and 2 aviation and he said that half of WW1 pilots were killed by stalling their aircraft, yet none of the SD WW1 aircraft stall : - ( Very few WW2 aircraft should be able to have their stick pulled fully back without stalling or loosing control (unless at high speeds, the 109 was notorious for having a heavy stick in these conditions). I was just wondering if anything was going to be done about making the flight models harder? They are a little to easy to be relistic. Is there anything I can do to make it harder? Is it in PP5.3. Is it an issue undergoing thought? I know loads of people who would stop flying Warbirds and Dawn of Aces if only FS had better flight models. Try flying Warbirds and pulling back the stick hard.....smash into the deck you go! As for Dawn of aces if you stall the Sopwith camel you are as good as dead! This was true of most camel pilots in WW1...sadly : - ( Other than this Fighter Squadron is THE BEST flight sim I have ever had the privalage to fly...Keep up the good work all those who make the game what it is.....I'm learning Open plane and 3D drawing so maybe I can help soon.... ------------------ ~MrBlob~ IP: Logged |

The spitfire, for example required 60 lbs of force to depart at 300mph. I experimented with giving the fw190 stick enough force to do this at high speeds but since 60lbs of real stick force equates to about 1 lb of 'computer' stick force everyone complained the plane was too easy to spin (and it was). You accidentally pull back to hard on the joystick and it's equivalent to planting both feet on the dash and hauling back with both hands in the real deal. TS

well, having not flown it, I can't say how realistic the BF109 is in it response to the stick etc, but as everyone that I fly with knows, I hate the 109, 9 times out of ten I end up in a flat spin when performing a break turn, and unless I'm at 10,000 ft + then it's about unrecoverable. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about this at all, if thats realistic then so be it, I just don't fly it, it's that simple. The point is, working towards realism.. well, I don't think the guys have been far off at all in the build of these aircraft... alot of people have found out that you can't just jerk these babies around and expect them to comply with your every wish! I think the FM's are pretty good, and thanks all the guys that have spent hours on them ------------------ JV~44 "Naturlich" If you can't beat em.... out run em! http://members.xoom.com/naturlich/

Quickly, if I can ever be quick..hehe:The kicker here is that not all joysticks are created equally; you get in the real planes, the controls, etc., immediately felt different...pressure, sensitivity, overall shape and 'feel'. On our systems, we have one stick for all...so we try to get as close as we can...and one hell of a fine job is being done, IMHO. Wonder what it would be like to have, say, a sim with 10 crates and have the ability to have 8 or 10 different joystick setups assigning a different stick to each plane? Personally I'd hate it....but as long as everyone had sticks with exactly the same characteristics, would flight sim flight models become more ( if I can create a word ) fine-tuneable?? .02 ------------------ nealg=FC=

Nat, the 109 is a tricky plane, but you should be able to recover from your stall in less than 10000ft. Cut the throttle, put your flaps down, and apply opposite rudder. When she evens out, give her some juice but try not to throw it into a spin again until you gain a bit of altitude =) I know it doesn't fly like the 190, but how can you NOT fly this bird with the beautiful 109E4 and 109F4 skins by Yardstick and ooh, that big-ass 30mm cannon in the nose Getting up-close and personal with that one is a one way ticket to the ground. You just need some practice bringing her out of a spin. Try controlled spins at an altitude where you can recover comfortably. Say, start it at 20k and if it takes you 10k to recover, just work on it. When you get better you can try a spin at 10000 and so on. Also the key is to learn to be kinda gentle with this one, avoiding sudden hard maneuvers. That is, avoiding a spin in the first place. A spin at under 5000 ft is usually fatal for me.

Thanks Reaper, I usually cut engines, apply full flaps, and even drop gear gust for the extra drag, but I haven't used rudder to correct, just the airlerons, so I'll remember that on Sunday when I'm in it next... I have to try to get used to it else JV44 wont be pleased with me Thanks for the tips IP: Logged |

As you can see JC, the planes can stall and spin. If they do, however, is up to your piloting skills :-) _ /Bjorn.IP: Logged |

Just to clear something up as well..... Many sim's model a stall as an action that is fast. The plane speed drops way down then suddenly the nose drops... lots of people think this is correct.... watch an airshow sometime, the planes doing hammerhead stalls and the like don't have thier nose suddenly just fall down, then mush down.... Snapping is something I haven't seen modeled well till this sim came out and they fixed the FM. The latest PP will fix many other FM problems and level the playing field quite a bit.

Mr.Blob, I've been toying around with online WWII sims since 1992.Air Warrior Dos,Warbirds,Confirmed Kill II,DOA,Aces High....... Flown Warbirds extensively and paid alot of their bills.... I'd have to agree with Mirthain, planes don't react that harsh. Yeah,I've only flown a sailplane, and witnessed Real Warbirds flying at shows, but never a real Warbird have I flown, but at the shows seem to lumber around a lot more than in Warbirds the game (where they all roll, loop, and cut like F16's till this point where they break out suddenly into a violent spin (never for 3 years did I find it believable)and I still don't. CK II,Aces High(to a degree),and especially SDoE are more convincing IMO.Rattler IP: Logged |

Well I'm speachless. You guys at OPP have finaly done for the first time in any flight sim i've ever seen. You hav well and truely modeled the stall quite well in most of the aircraft now. I increased my stick sensitivity wich made a slight difference....These flight models respond how you would emagine them to. I to do admit that the WB flight models do respond to violent sometimes but as a friend of mine said "it the best i've found yet..." with PP3 i'm sure that I can change that thought.... Good Work. I apolagise if I seemed to be slagging any of your work off. I waas just saying that some of the flight models handeled like it was an arcade game, not a flight sim. P.s: My frined of mine pointed out a large factor that has gone amiss in the 109E. It never had a cannon in the nose. It had the whole for it but no cannon as there were severe over heating problems. The first varient was the 109F to have a cannon. Once again great flight models.....can't wait till ther all finished........ ------------------ ~MrBlob~ IP: Logged | |
