I bought a game (Interstate 82) by ACTIVISION not so long ago, and in this game you could repaint your cars the same way you mank new skins for SDOE. So when i went into play a game online I found out you can see other peoples skins, and I thought this would be cool in SDOE. So I looked around my I 82 folder and found that in the textures folder they made a second folder that loded the skins of the people as jpg's, does any one think we could get this to work in SDOE? I was thinking some squadrons would like this due to the fact each member could have there one nose art and number.------------------ Watch For Falling Focke-Wulf's IP: Logged |

For a second there I thought that you were going to suggest that someone add a 2-sided panel to a plane that flips 180 so that there could be 2 different nose art images or nationality markings during competitions (still using the honor system to monitor this).IP: Logged |

Yeah, I think that is a great idea, if somebody could find a way to make it work. Right now, I don't see how it would be possible. Even being able to set a single skin for just one squadron (vs. one skin for a plane make/model) would be a huge step forward. After this would be making it possible for each individual plane to have a different skin. Of course, you would have to wait while the server sent everyone's own personal skin to everyone else, but that shouldn't be a problem for those of you with fast connections (i.e. cable) I don't see this happening until we get open source though. If that ever becomes a reality, I see very few limits for this sim.-=TheReaper=- IP: Logged |

All we got to do is add another thing to load like Skins and it will load as a JPG to a second folder in the Textures folder of the planes being flowen. the jpgg format should make it a litle faster than useing TIF's make it faster, yes this will take longer to load the game but it will be binifical.------------------ Watch For Falling Focke-Wulf's IP: Logged |

Spanky here.... Well i think cause SDOE stores all the skins on the vid card (i'm guessing I82 can grab them off the main ram or HD) i don' know if we can do personal skins. But i think nose art and plane #s should be do able.
Not at the moment though.

Twinhit went through the process of adding multiple skins some time ago, I'm thinking all we need is a util that would change the multiple skins to those you know of that use them, this would be a part way step in the right direction. For example, you have 5 skins of a 190, you know joe blow has yellow 9 and dodgy geezer has black seven, you choose the relevant skins from the util and press a button, the skins get transferred to the multiple planes\textures\ folders as described by Twinhit (maybe some others too, forgive my memory) Of course, the order that each player is assigned an aircraft would be critical otherwise the wrong player would be 'wearing' the wrong skin. Each player would have to choose the squadron online in the right order to match the order of the skin. No big deal I suppose. Anyhow, a single click multi skin changer would work. How would it reflect on fps? I know too many squads in a game saturates my v2 8mb card and I get blocky flak/explosions etc as a result. cheers

Spanky here... That is exactly why we can't do this right now. Not enough texture ram. Once we get a hold of the code maybe we can get the game to load skins off ram or HD like it does for the terrain. IP: Logged |
