If you have the SE5a version 9 and it crashes SDOE when you use it:

I forgot to add a file to the ZIP archive. If you have an earlier version of the SE5a you won't need this file, it will all ready be there. If you have the latest beta of the planepack you should not need this file either - but I have not tested that yet.

You can download the needed 2K file here:
http://www.schoolmusic.com/chickencoop/se5a/index.htm

It is the startup.ppf file that goes in your media folder. My version has a new airfoil entry in this list.

Sorry about the bug!

I hope you won't mind if I borrow the airfoil for a non-entry learning project I am working on.

Right now it's just the same as the FW airfoil. I just got it seperated to pave the way for the new airfoil work. I wanted to get the legistics of the airfoil.sm file and startup.ppf file out of the way.

Sv,

Thanks so much for this new update. It's fantastic! Excellent work, I'm really enjoying this plane. Lots of times I'll just pan around the plane as it's flying, marveling at it's excellent appearance. If there will ever be a WWI version of this game that is shipped out, your work looks like it belongs in it. It's honestly that good.

Keep it up!

hmmmm.... for my diversionary model, I was hoping to actually get it's top speed limitted to 81mph as the original was, I just hope a few airfoil variants emerge...

Whirlwind -
You can add a CYL airfoil to create drag, or modify the one(s) in the model you're working with. Increase the area until your airspeed is limited to whatever number you're looking for. The bummer about this is that the game calculates the airfoil section, so you wanna limit the amount of these airfoils for framerate. I think MH is working a new way of adding drag to the overall model for the next sim, maybe in the beta. (???)

I might just leave it as it is and make adjustments as 'future' airfoils emerge (if any ), I'm not too worried, at 120mph or 81mph, none of these planes were ever shot down, a few crashed, but not due to lead poisoning.

Hi SV,

Thanks for the new se5a and albatross. They are great fun. One question on the Albatross though, and I know it is still a beta, but do you know why the ai pilots climb until they stall, recover and repeat this process until they crash? Do I have some setting wrong or maybe a bad fuel amount?

Thanks,
Condor out

SV,

Do the ai pilots do the same thing for you in the albatross? Just wondering.

Thanks,

Yes, they also run into the ground for no good reason. Also if you start a mission at 10,000 feet, the first thing the AI do is dive to ground level - while fighting! This is the same for the SE5a.

I am pretty sure it is due to the FM. Maybe higher lift wings would fix it. Either that or, heaven forbid, I could lighten the plane up so it is lighter than spec. I am still trying to understand why the AI do what they do... I have set the landing speed, max speed, min speed, all that stuff. Hmmm....

We'll get there someday

Just a guess but it's probably for the same reason that the AI takes WWII fighters down to the deck in Scrambles and the bombers down to the deck in bombing missions.

Can't explain the crashes except that the WWI planes aren't as responsive as the AI expects. The AI will also crash WWII fighters everytime if you get one on your tail and fly low and slow.

The stall speed and landing speed are set properly for the AI, right?
