OK Guys, hope you lot think this thing is worth it.. LOLI had to split the terrain into 2 parts, but they extract to Media like your used to so you shouldn't have any trouble with them, just unzip them first into a temp directory, then unzip the enclosed zips into your Media folder, and you have it! Let me have some feed back for those of you that go get it, I'd like to know what can be changed, made better etc, or even if your happy with it like it is, you will see that I had problems with some of the textures along the sea fronts, but I don't think that detracts too much from it. Thanks to Poodle for telling me about Hippies tools, and where to get it, I couldn't have finished it without that. Hope you like it guys, lets hope we can get some new terrain areas out aswell soon (Pete? LOL) you can get it from my front page here: http://members.xoom.com/naturlich/ ------------------ JV~44 "Naturlich" If you can't beat em.... out run em! http://members.xoom.com/naturlich/ IP: Logged |

NatI downloaded it and followed the directions, but I don't show Snowy Dover as an option when I go to the mission editor. Is it suppose to be there? PR=FC= IP: Logged |

Nat,I think I just found an error. In the A pack you have a terrainB.zip file. It extracts to C:\program files\Fighter Squadron. I think we need a little more clarifying on what goes where. For example, the Rheinland Winter files extracted on my system to here... F:\Fighter Squadron\Media\terrain Should all your files be going into our terrain folders also? Just trying to help. I'm getting the B pack now. Nevermind, I think I can figure it out. It is kinda confusing though. [This message has been edited by Pete Hawk (edited 02-10-2000).] IP: Logged |

I'm having much the same problem, Nat. ..at first I thought \missionseditor was a misnomer and put its \snowydover folder along with the other theaters in \missions, but couldn't make a mission. .. next, I copied \missionseditor directly under \Media, and presto! I could make a mission ..having made my mission, I couldn't find it in the game select for theater, so I copied \missionsedit\snowydover back to the \missions folder and snowydover appeared and my mission was there. ..unhappily it keeps crashing to desktop from there, and Doc Watson says its trying to use a null data pointer variable in SDSIM.DLL - ask and I'll send you the .wlg error file, or in txt if you don't have Win98. ..I've tried putting all the combinations of the .ppf and .sm file you have I could think of and still no joy. ..since it works for you, I suspect (hope) its just some file not in the right place, and not have to download it all again.[This message has been edited by roadtoad (edited 02-10-2000).] IP: Logged |

No luck here Nat. Maybe you should install Rheinland Winter and see how it's set up. That install was a breeze and works well. We'll get it fixed, don't worry. IP: Logged |

Heya Nat,This is the folders and files you need to use to get the terrain to work properly. Note these all go in the media directory. Files: Terrain: Textures and SM file (if you add stuff like trees or something, put that sm here too) Airfields: Textures, SM and PPF Towns: Textures,SM and PPF MissionEditor: SM and PPF Missions: Map BMP (used for editor and kneeboard) Gui: PPF All these must be added and or edited to point to your new map as well as getting it to work in the game and mission editor. Also I suggest you make a bogus FS directory and create a media folder and then place all your files and folders in there. Then simply zip the media folder you just made. That way all people will have to do is unzip it to their FS directory and poof all the files will go where they are supposed to. Make sure you keep the "save subfolders" option checked. hope that helps,

ok, lets see if I can try to sort this out, firtsly all the zips should go into your Media folder, so you will end up with the following folders added: airfields missioneditor targets terrain townsI can't say about what Zoy said regarding the Gui ppf, I never changed that on my system and it runs the new terrain fine. It may be that I created the zips incorrectly, but as I said, the above folders should be added into your Media folder. As far as I can tell that should do it, please let me know if it doesn't, I was expecting maybe some problems, but this wasn't one of them.. lol Well, it's a learning process and if I/we can work out where the problem lies, that'll help for the next time. Oh, Zoy, the problem I had with creating the zip was having more than one folder with the same name, the only other option it'd let me have was a complete folder history, i.e. that it would extract to c:\program files\fighter squadron\media\ (suggestions?) The snowy dover should show in the Mission Editor, the mission editor ppf has been edited to display it (or so I thought.. lol no, it has) I had yto split the terrain folder itself into 2 parts because it was too big for xoom to let me upload, so the contents of both terrainA and B must be in the same folder, i.e Media\terrain\snowydover\textures\ should hold all the superdover.tif's It seems from what Zoy has said that for some reason it could be missing ppf's, but to be honest I only edited the one for mission editor, and the terrain works fine for me... I've just taken a screen shot of the folder layout that I have after seting this up, incase that helps... I guess it's now a case of working through this to find out why it works for me and not you guys. Thanks for the help guys, and your patience the folder screen shot can be found here: http://members.xoom.com/naturlich/fs-folder.jpg

ok, found the problems, I took the terrain out of my FS completely, then tried to instal it from my zip files, and guess what.. yep, it didn't work, OK I'll have to post a couple of very small parts for you to d/l, seems the sm files didn't make it into the zip.. don't ask me why, I haven't got a clue and I did notice that the terrain doesn't extract correclty, so, I may have to redo my zip files and repost them, sorry for the hassle guys, but explaining a way through and getting the right parts to you will probably cause more hassle, I'll get it sorted out now, and posted up again in a few hours.IP: Logged |

Heya,The Gui PPF simply references the new map for the ribbins used in the missions. Also by adding all the files and folders, it will tie in through the whole game. Lastly, its always a good idea to test your zips in a clean or bogus FS directory. Oh and actually the targets dont need to be edited, they simply sit on a tile from the new terrain. Atleast thats how they work for the Rhineland map. Good luck, ------------------ Zoycite {GS} GUNSLINGERS visit The War Paint Factory IP: Logged |

Well, I wasn't bothered with ribbons, it uses the standard dover ribbons, makes sence really, it's the same Theatre, although if anyone wants to alter that, I don't see why not )I've completely redon the zip files, and I'm uploading them now, there will be 3 files because I used a file splitter to keep the zip file easy to use, and less chance of cock ups on my part, 2 9mb files and a small rejoin bat that will put the zipfile back together. You shouldn't have any problems with this one now, it seems that old zips were missing atleast all the sm files, why I dunno... well, I'll post again in a couple of hours in here once the upload is complete, then hopefully all will be fine.. it's kinda annoying after all that work, and then cock it up when I post it, well, first timer.. I'm gettin there though.. lol IP: Logged |

Can you please have a small patch zip with just the sm files in their proper folders for we who've already downloaded all those files? It took quite awhile to download on my slow dial-up, and it wouldn't have gotten that far if it wasn't for GetRight being able to resume a timed-out download from high-use Xoom the Mercilessly SlowIP: Logged |

sure Road, I know what you mean, just took me a few hours uploading it all again, but for those that want to re download the full terrain, it's now reposted at the site, this time in a slightly different format, use the rejoin.bat to rebuild the zip file, then extract to your Media Directory.I'll work on the patch now IP: Logged |

OK, Posted a patch containing what I believe was missing from the other zips in the first download, that being all the sm files and 1 ppf it should extract to the correct locations this time, and fix any problems you had before, if not, I know you'll let me know.. lol IP: Logged |

Nat, why not just rename the files? I think if you renamed them to something like "SD.001" and "SD.002" that might fix it. Does xoom let you rename your files on the server via ftp?-=TheReaper=- IP: Logged |

yeah I tried that, but changing the names, i.e. adding a file extension meant that the rejoin bat couldn't put it together again, and I couldn't see an easy way of removing the extension once added, anyway, least it's up now and I'm hoping fixed so everyone vcan use it
