Could the 617bSQN Dambusters Raid be modelled?

eg
Model the Rhineland landscape, eg with canal/rivers to follow at 150 feet!

At night

Model the dam/s (c/w flak towers)

Modify the Lanc - bomb, no top turret. With skins of the real planes?

Make a dambuster bomb

Get it to spin and bounce on water?

Create a mission - got to fly at the right height/speed exactly to do it


Should have some great low-flying in the Lanc, and run a mission with half a dozen planes perfectly

Is this do-able? I've no OPS knowledge or skill I'm afraid, but if you great guys are looking to put together something complete but small scale and easy to do (is it?)

That's pretty tough because you are asking to modify the actual terrain model. There is much that goes along with that, and none of which I have any experience yet (in terrains).

I like to basically stick to new airplanes and somewhat simple ground objects, although the V-2 site I'm just getting started on will be more complex than my usual stuff.

The spinning and bouncing on the water part is also a tough one right now. I'm not sure how the best way to do that would be, or even IF you could do that.

It seems to me the way to do this would be to have ground textured to look like water. This way an object can bounce off it, I've sure bounced enough aircraft off the ground. The hard part(i would think) would be making a bomb that would bounce instead of just explode with the collision it detected - but then again I am no OP expert. Can you set damage amounts to bombs? If so you could set it very high so that it takes 2 or 3 bounces to accumulate enough damage.

Wait a minute, I think I remeber reading something about bombs being fused if FS? Is that right? If so, maybe you could just set the fusing for a very long period (30 seconds or so) and then the bomb would bounce before the fuse was set.

Hmmm... tires bounce wonderfully - could a tire object be made to take damage and explode violently and be dropped on a DOF key press?

Then again, as I said, I'm no expert so i may be full of it!
