Well I found the "solution" to the problem someone else mentioned about the cockpit getting dark. I noticed this when I was flying the Oberrussel mission. Later I noticed it was back to normal again, then dark again...Cockpit shadowing! By the way, how do you use the R4M's properly? I shot all 24 at a Sherman and one of them got it, but should I be spraying them all over the S side of town? Invariably I run out of ammo on this mission and even though everyone gets home safe, we still lose because I don't have enough ammo to shoot down the two remaining Spits. Advice? BTW the R4M's are rather cool to watch. One time I released in a shallow dive from maybe 50ft, one went right down, exploded under me, and that was all she wrote. That's very nice compared to something like Jane's where they actually work all the time. Maury IP: Logged |

R4M's are designed to be used against bombers. IP: Logged |

yeah, if I remember rightly to spray at bomber formations breaking them up to be picked off at will.. any hits were a bonus aslong as you break up the formation, taking away the combined force of all those damn gunners thinkin it's a turkey shoot!IP: Logged |

Does this mean someone figured out how to get the rockets in SDOE to detonate on a 3 second timer? TS

I thought someone once post that if you select a target and ctrl and another key.. or something.... to set the range on your rockets and launch them. It was on Pete's board eons ago.IP: Logged |

As I understand it, R4M missiles were supposed to have a ballistic curve similar to the MK 108 cannon, and no timed warhead. Just point and shoot, and if it hits - kaboom! Btw: They tested using R4M's vs armoured vehicles, mounted on the wings of Fw190D's I think. The 210mm mortar warhead strapped to a rocket and fired from a tube under the wings of the 109, 110, 190 etc. Probably had a timer. It seems to me in SDOE the rockets have thrust applied when they launch, and that's it; instead of a constant burn for X seconds like the real thing... IP: Logged |

Well I can't say for sure on the R4M's, but one of my club's pilots did 153 combat storees over Korea in P-51's (he's a Cannuck, but was on exchange with the USAF at the time). He was telling me about one time where they were firing FFARs (5" maybe, he didn't say) at a hillside and the first person that shot had the missile sorta turn in mid air and head straight for the stratosphere. They had to bug out because they were all wondering if it was going to come back down on them. All in all he said that if you fired 8 you might get one hit. Has some great stories about finding a bunch of tanks in a valley too. So as to the R4M's going all over the place, I don't think that's far off at all. Or am I just imagining that they're going all over the place? Maury IP: Logged |
