Guys, someone tell me quickly if this has been done yet, I'm about half way through making it now, but let me tell you... damn if it aint the most tedious thing I've ever done in my life!! So, let me know if there's one out, then I wont kill myself making it. I hope to have it ready by the end of next week, I'll let you all know when it's done (again.. texture work is as always my little contribution.. well, this time it's a big one really.. big pain in the butt!) lolThanks Guys ------------------ JV~44 "Naturlich" If you can't beat em.... out run em! http://members.xoom.com/naturlich/ IP: Logged |

Heya, Actually once the tiffs are untiffed its easy. Simply run a batch script and its done in about 3 minutes. How big will the D/L be?

now that is a very fine question.... and I guess the answer is that I aint right sure right now... I'm most of the way through working on the textures adding the snow, but to be honest I'm kinda flynig blind a little here (trying hard to add my bit for the guys.. lol)I would expect that since the maps are the same size, that this will be be about the same size as the Rhineland map, but to be honest until I've put it together, I wont really know, and any tips would obviously be appreciated. I couldn't find a good way with the programs I have of matching up the snow I'm adding to each texture, so I've rebuilt it as one larg map, then adding the new white overlay, and finaly cutting it up again into the origonal 256x256 texture maps... thats why I said it's damn tedious! (I'm using Infra view to untif and convert to jpg then working on them using Photoshop 5)IP: Logged |

Heya,File size will depend on your resolution, and color depth. You can cut the files size in half by setting the above properly. Also when you save the tiffs, make sure you compress them. Boy 400 tiles by hand, what a job. But you say you have PS 5. Use the batch tools. ITs alot easier Good luck, ------------------ Zoycite {GS} GUNSLINGERS visit The War Paint Factory IP: Logged |

Zoy, you sound like you have a knack for this. Could you please take me through a "runthrough" on what this all entails.Like say I did snowy Dover also (I know he's working on it but use it for an example). What's the best way to do it and please be very specific on what one must do. I've got many many ideas in this dept Also, Nat, how the heck did you reassemble them for painting, and then rechop them up? This sounds really interesting to me also. Thanks guys, all help given will pay off in future terrain maps and ESPECIALLY my railroad ideas. If I can do what I think I can, this will rock!!!

The snow terrains tend to be a lot bigger than the night one's I think. Maybe because the night terrains are a lot darker and easier to compress? My DoverNight is only a 4.6 Mb download, and the textures are still in 16 million colours, just like the original ones.I think the SnowyDover will be as large as the RhinelandWinter. Maybe you can make it a bit smaller if you don't add the vegitation that you already get with RhinelandWinter, but that would mean people have to download that one first before SnowyDover and the difference in file size is neglectable. Actually, though the file is set to 16 million colors, you arent using all 16 million of them , thus a smaller file size. RW is 26 or 27 megs, without losing imgage quility, this is the smallest that I could get the files. Actually its a huge step from the original 60 to 70 megs of the Rhineland terrrain that shipped with the gamed. ------------------ Zoycite {GS} GUNSLINGERS visit The War Paint Factory IP: Logged |

OK, yeah, I see what you mean about cuttin it up into small parts again, that was gonna be the big problem, what I did was to set gridlines at 256 pixels, and set the rulers to pixels aswell, so that should enable me to cut the pick up again later without too much trouble (ha!The thing was, I started working on the individual 256x256 textures, but there's a problem with that, you end up with straight lines after the alterations, or the pics just don't seem to look right, so I've been using the select tool, and selecting the darker shades of green, and painting them white, then using a filter so it doesn't look too flat or plain, well that looked ok, till I put a row together, thats when the problem of lines comes up.. so I decided the only real way to get it as good as possible was to put it all together and work on it that way.. like I said, very very tedious, but should hopefully look ok. As for the batch processing, I have to say that although I'm good with Photoshop, I don't know where that function is, or if it will help stop the problems I've listed above, but if you know how.. please spread the word IP: Logged |

handy little toy here, Image Splitter, will chop up big images like the one I'm dealing with) and save it to smaller files, you can set the size you want http://www.barkdev.com/is.html IP: Logged | |
