Heya,

I couldnt rember which post where you said you wanted a pic of some WWI AAA. Here is a pic from one of my books. Not sure how big it was. I'm sure books on the ground war would have more specs on it.

Note that German AAA burst with black smoke while British and French burst with white smoke. Pilots some times used the color difference as a guide to which lines they were heading to or flying over.

ALso I have seen pics of what appears to be 2 Lewis type looking guns on a mount that was used for shooting at A/C from the ground.

Hope that helps

SV -

At the begining of the war they used trucks to tow them.. by the end they were reduced to horse teams as working trucks were in short supply. This particular gun is actually mounted on a flat-bed truck. Take a close look and you can see that the front of the truck is an open bench - like a wagon.

I have a picture somewhere of the double Lewis gun AA setup - but I plan on trying my hand at modelling this myself. I will still post it if I can find it though.

Also, on the AAA smoke colors - both sides made of use of colored smoke rounds to coordinate ground attacks and mass bombing runs. Basically a certain color of shells would be fired over the trenchs to signal the commencement of the attack, or the retreat or a myriad of other pre-determined signals.

also the .50 Browning made it's Debut here in WWI as an AA machine gun. It was water cooled, so add a water jacket to it and viola..... WWI .50 AA.
