This thing is really neat, and it flys very similarly to the Zeppelin. It's armed with a turret and does a fine job at taking out SE5As I'm finishing up some stuff with it (final tweaks) and will post it soon. http://members.xoom.com/hawkersop/images/Zepplin Anyone want to host my site? (Michael?) I'm needing room for all the jets I did last night (see that one future post I made), and this WWI stuff as well. Thanks. IP: Logged |

One thing that's very frustrating is the shadow. The Zepps shadow was fixed (and thanks to you who fixed it, I'm tired and don't remember who... bad I know), but I used it as a template for the new balloon, got it small, and saved it. It looks pretty good with the new one but for some reason the big Zepp has the same shadow now. They each have shadows in there own texture folders, they are renamed different, both the SM files and the texture references,yet they are sharing this file!! Why?Also I tried to put a pilot standing up in the basket and he refused to show up, so it looks like I'll have to do him like the RIO I did and make him a solid part of the model. Then I'll make him part of the turret so he'll turn when he fires his guns at you (and maybe will track you with his head too) Yes, I'm loving this stuff! IP: Logged |

Thats great. Any way to keep it stationary?I think WWI is moving right along Thanks Pete, ------------------ Zoycite {GS} GUNSLINGERS visit The War Paint Factory IP: Logged |

Well, I could easily make it a placeable ground object as well (that still fires at you), but man, seeing it move around is so cool You can land and park it as well, so you could park a couple to have as targets. AI has trouble landing it and it won't work at the beginning of missions on the ground (still trying to figure out why). [This message has been edited by Pete Hawk (edited 02-02-2000).] IP: Logged |

Pete,How did you manage to edit the shadow for the Zeppelin? I have tried all sort of software but have failed to find anything that can open the files containing the shadows of the shipped aircraft. ------------------ Yardstick painted this

Yardstick,I did the shadow for the Zepp for Pete. I just made it from scratch - kill the .inta file all together. The shadow is just a LOD. Texture it with a normal transparent (alpha chanel) tiff file. Also rename the shadow model in OPS, and the property that points to the shadow from the main fuselege model. Pete, try renaming the b17Shad model. There seems to be an OPS bug (or feature) where root level models with the same name from different planes conflict. You should always give these objects names like ZeppShadow, or ObsBalloonShad, etc to avoild this "model steeling" bug. This same issue caused my SE5a to "share" damaged replacement models and shadows with the Fokker DR1a and the Fokker DVII... I am putting up a complete shadow tutorial tonight... ------------------ -Sv =FC= WWI in SDOE!

A challenge for you master Pete:Make the balloon a stationary aircraft (like on the ground with no engine) - but make stay in the air and be controledd by one or more DOF osc loops that cause it to look like its pitching around like your break-thru carrier deck. This would kick total and complete ass! -Sv IP: Logged |

Pete,That observation balloon looks so awesome!!! I'm sorry I don't get so excited about your cool carrier stuff, I'm just a WWI guy at heart Let me know anything I can do to help you with the balloon -Sv IP: Logged |

Sv, it's not just the carrier, this applies to ALL OBJECTS! Can you say TRAINS!!! (except player controlled, as in flyable stuff, at least so far I think). Glad you like it, and sure I'm always up for a challenge. IP: Logged |

OMG! I'm gonna do the balloon thing, using a translation DOF not only will it do a little pitching and rolling, but it'll bob up and down as well! Yardstick, somewhere I found a plugin for Photoshop that lets you open and edit SG INTA files. If you can't find it let me know and I'll send it to you. It's easy with it, you click on the alpha layer then you are looking at the shadow, then you just paint using black or white (white is the shadow portion) and there you have it Thanks for the B-17 shadow info too Sv, cool. If we put a very long translate dof on the y axis and place it between the ground point and the balloon we could actually raise and lower the balloon as if it were on a guide line.This is going to be cool. Raider {GS} IP: Logged |

Raider, good point! And guess what, you can have LONG dof oscillation times! If you wait with the Saratoga, it takes 90 minutes to go through it's motions in ONE LOOP (to cross the ocean map in Africa)! That's so cool!So thanks, it should be really neat to see a balloon go way up, hover around for a while and then come back down after 10-20 minutes or whatever you wish VERY cool! Balloons are ground objects though and I'm not having lots of success with them but I'll do my best to make it work (sounds really fun to me). Also I'm making headway with the moving ground vehicles (as in tanks/trucks) stuff as well. Don't count it out just yet.

One thing that I remember from SWOTL that was also very common on airfeilds, but hasn't been done here...... FLAK TOWERS! They had a combination of True Flak with AA for airfield defence. I would love to see someone do some of these... they would also make for some interesting player controlled sites for attack missions.... imagine being shot at by someone who knows how you fly and doesn't just shoot in little bursts... ;}
