I went back to win98 se after finding win2000 wouldn't detect my v2 card. Creatives latest driver complained I had a NT setup and failed to load it up. Even 3dfx's didn't seem to do anything other than start to add files. How come win2000 can't plug and pray as the previous versions did?

It's based on NT. They were calling it NT5 for awhile then changed the name. If you can dig up glide drivers for NT4 they'll probably work. TS IP: Logged |

It picked up my V3 just fine. I had to install the 3dfx glide nt drivers for glide to work but aside from that no probs.IP: Logged |

yeah I knew it was based on Nt tech and I grabbed the Nt drivers from 3dfx but they appeared to install but nothing else. I saw the v3 and banshee cards etc were supported, can't understand why the v2 isn't. I also only did an install over win98, without switching to the Ntfs as I didn't want to reformat should anything have gone wrong. Anyone notice if the ntfs is better than standard? I might try with a clean install next time and see how it goes. thanks guys.------------------

Forget it spyder.... from day one Microsoft and 3dfx said there wasn't voodoo2 support for 2k. Something to do with WDM drivers and difficulty with 3d overlay cards. I have heard there are some work arounds, so I will see what I can come up with and let you know. Till then, avoid Win2k. Word of warning, if you are using win 98 and are not very computer literate, do NOT, repeat NOT go to Win 2K. Stay with 98. Win 2K is designed to be an upgrade for WinNT and should be done by people familiar with their systems as a tech would be. Just some helpful advice to keep you off the tech support lines..... Mirthain =FC= P.S. Creative will not have Win 2K drivers till the Public release on the 17th of Feb. Please avoid calling and annoying the nice tech agents with calls about drivers till then... ;}------------------ Mirthain=FC= IP: Logged |

Rgr Mirth, no prob on understanding win2k I actually like the new features and apps seemed to run faster than on win 95/98 also. If creative are releasing win2k drivers then I'll wait till they come out, the only thing stopping me from using win2k was not being able to get online in sdoe! Nice skin by the way. Where can I get it? ------------------

Actually, that is the reason that I want the 109F Template. It actually came from one of the greatest books on WW2 aircraft. It isn't a skin yet, but just a scan of Heinrich Ehrler's 109f. I will make a skin as soon as someone gets me the 109F template.. ;} I don't know if the Voodoo2 drivers are going to be released by creative or not. I have just heard that there are some work around drivers out there... but I won't know till tomorrow. I too am upset that 3DFX didn't work more with MS to get WDM drivers for W2K. I figured that you knew about your system enough, but this is a warning for other people that aren't so sure. Just for info, there is talk about Millenium that will be an upgrade from the Win9x OS's.------------------ Mirthain=FC= [This message has been edited by Mirthain (edited 02-01-2000).] IP: Logged |

yeah I finally got it going Smitty, our link to the win2k drivers helped a heap. I did a clean install so I have both operating systems to choose from and I just ran the sdemons.exe from the win98 program files. I don't think the drivers are very optimised though as I lost fps compared to win98. Maybe the creative ones will fair better. I haven't tried actually installing fs into win2k as I already have it loaded, maybe MH can help you out there if you describe the problem. cheers

Here is a link that I have... I don't know if this will be the same file or not.. but here you go. http://home.carolina.rr.com/nightwolf/ Now... very important note.... to the best of my information, there are no drivers for W2K officially for the Voodoo2. I have heard nothing about Creative doing drivers, especially since OEM drivers are always related to the chipset developer and the reference drivers they produce. This should not be a surprise since 3DFX mentioned this when the first betas of W2K were released. One other note, W2K has NOT been optimized for gaming. This OS is designed assist network admins and other high end users to have more stable PnP and high end multimedia available to them for development and server side applications. I must stress, if you are not in one of those catagories, Very strongly consider NOT going to W2K, wait for the Win 9X OS upgrade path.... ;} Just a helpful hint,

Spyder,I did a full install with the patch, its running now. I use Win2k Pro to run apps. etc on my Dual P3 system. This OS is very stable. I believe that the OS "Millenium" has been renamed "Whistler". " I could be mistaken. Mirthain, I agree with you 100% about Win2k. and yes, since its not officially released it has been a pain getting Drivers that will work properly with certain hardware.. ie TNT2 cards and SBLive cards.... Good stuff Smitty. Also, my previous post ran "our link" change that to "your link" sorry! Yeah it's very nice and while it may not be directed at the gamer it wouldn't hurt, I found it less prone to trip over than win95/98 and it runs things quicker that's for sure. cheers
