I was hired on a 3 week project to do research for a Canadian WWII history volume. Today I was paid to listen to a RCAF Spitfire pilot and RCAF Wellington Navigator tells their stories.

What a way to get paid! Too bad it won't last much longer.

The spit pilot did 153 sorties, shot down 4 enemy fighters and was then shot down in late 1944 ending the war as a POW. Go figure! He said he figured he was invincible by that time and no one could get him.

He was part of the fighter escort for the first 8th USAAF raid in 1942 as well. There were 6 bombers.

What a way to get paid. It's hell boys but I will grin and bear it. LOL!!!

Kopper,

I am soooooo jealous! That would be my dream job. Getting paid to listen to war stories and then put them down in print.

Where do I sign up?

P.S. What's going on with your trip to Trenton CFB? I had a chance to go there next week on business but had to pass to a coworker because of a schedule conflict.

There has been no opinions, etc to offer on anything. Things are far too tame these days.

The trip to Trenton is at the end of April. Been putting together a proposal to do 429 Sqn's history. I was brain storming with 4 of the writers on this WWII volume for ideas on how to do a Sqn history that would have broad market appeal.

The idea would be to tell the story from 1 crew's point of view. And have the history done in 3 parts: Wellington's, Halifaxes and Lancs. Again, for each period focusing on a specific crew to provide the continuity of the story. Do they get the chop or don't they? Plus include the usual sex and scandal of a wartime airbase - this way you can have the soap opera for the women to buy it.

Of course include appendixes of all the raids and who was on them, plus copeious amounts of photos.

I was helping the writers today recreate an 'op' for the reader! Plus one section was dealing with the accomplishments of Bomber Commands air war. What a day and again I got paid for it. Where is the justice in this world.

When I graduated from high school I wanted to study history at university. My grade 12 history teacher said not to waste my time because there was no money in it and no jobs. So I studied computers instead. Guess what? No money and no job in my field. Humm, maybe I should have gone for history anyway.
