rkdodge,Do you intend modeling the SPAD ? I can sen to you some links I have. Try this one http://www.cofe.ru/Avia/Z/photos_avia_Z-1.htm Itīs from Russia. It has a lot of pics and 3views from the WWI planes. Hey Zoy ! SPAD !!! Good ! Think about Guynemerīs and Rickembackerīs skins !! Sv, You can put some notes in your WWI site about the planes (no pics yet) that are being created. This way we can choice our next plane to model. What do you think. nuum WWI aircraft IP: Logged |

I have nice scale drawings for the Spad VII, Spad XI (2-seater) and Spad XIII. They're real scale drawings with cross sections, not the little ones you see in books. Let me know which one you want to make for SDOE and I'll send the drawings out to you. I have several requests to send out, so it might be a little while before I get to it.If there's one thing I've learned from scale modeling, it's that you should have good information to start with. I used to make solid wood "museum quality" models from scratch. While I don't 3D model with my computer, from what I've seen,it's very similar to making planes out of a block of wood. Having good scale drawings helps out a lot. Right Nuum, SV? I've got hundreds of drawings and I'm only too happy to help anyone who wants to make planes for Fighter Squadron. After all, you and I get to fly them in the end! Dauntless851 "one can never have enough planes to fly"

Just to echo what Dauntless said and what scale modelers have told me, be careful when you use drawings. A lot of the drawings that are available are drawings of drawings of drawings. Like a story that's passed through many tellings, the drawings get more distorted as they are redrawn. This is made worse by the fact that even the original blueprints from which drawings are based don't always represent reality. Before CAD, the realities of instustrial manufacturing techniques meant that the final product often varied from what was represented in the blueprint. Not huge differences, but small ones. Anyway, I know that sounds really anal, but this is what people have told me at the scale modelers newsgroup. I still work from drawings, the best ones I can find, but I also use photos as comparison even when I have very detailed plans.IP: Logged |

Thanks guys I was gonna try the SPAD XIII, but at the rate that I'm getting the hang of AC3D, it will be the next millenium before I even get to alpha! Maybe I'll just stick to painting for now Still hoping for some color 3-view sites from someone. Nuum, my Russian is non-existant, which Cyrillic phrase points to the 3-view page ? SV, I think Nuum's idea about a plane list is a good one... could you please? Thanks again ------------------ rkdodge IP: Logged |
