Coming down the pike from Hawker's OpenPlane World... (that's Pete Hawk, not the other Hawker) http://members.xoom.com/hawkersop/images/upcoming These planes aren't even close to anything yet. Massive work to be done but I wanted to see how they looked in the game. The big one looks incredible flying! Really got my heart rate up (not a C-5) They are WWII era. You could say I've got about 3 full plates (including the Tomcat) [This message has been edited by Pete Hawk (edited 01-31-2000).] IP: Logged |

How I came to choose them was by what I found the game needed, and what would look really great flying. Of course any plane looks great flying IMHO. But just so you guys know, this is about .01 percent of what I've got planned with OpenPlane. I could make this a lifetime's work, easily. It's a blast. Hope the pics make everyone's Monday that much brighter IP: Logged |

Figured sometime I'd better tell the non-WWII types (like whoever is into Tomcats) what types they are. The larger green one is the B-24 Liberator and the other colored one is a PBY-5A Catalina. Not sure about what model the Liberator will be yet. But for the Catalina, now don't we wish we could land on that water?[This message has been edited by Pete Hawk (edited 01-31-2000).] IP: Logged |

Funny you should mention landing on the water Pete. I just fired off an email to my brother, (another SDOE lover) and was excitedly telling him about your two new babies. I mentioned SDOE's problem with water and inertia. It's a real shame some smart person (read anyone but me) can't figure out the solution to that problem.Oh well, the fact that you are building the plane gives hope that maybe now someone will. Good work! As usual. PR=FC= IP: Logged |

Pete you are a wizard at this stuff! Great work; I agree, we need these two planes. How you do it so fast is amazing. There are so many true artist like you that contribute to this wonderful game. The future is bright and shiny and full of cool planes flying these skies.IP: Logged |

Mmm' Not sure about the B26 How about the B25 Mithchel. I have not seen that plane modeled in a game since Aces over the pacifc. But you could not fly it. That used to pack some serious fire power and you could fly it off a Carrier, such as in Doolitles raid on Japan. That would be great to fly and more manouverable that the big bombers.Just a thought J IP: Logged |

Killer K-I believe it is Razer who is working on a Mitchell...although progress may have stalled what with his home computer covering his living room floor and all. The Mitchell and Martin Marauder were somewhat similar in appearance- except for the nose and a few other things. IP: Logged |

Great job, but his is disturbing...Consider everything Pete has done since a month: F-15. Tomcat. Zepplin. A tank. Now almost complete 3D models for a PBY and a B-24. This is impossible for a single human. Ok, so there are the possibilities: either Mr Hawk is a non-human, visiting us from a galaxy far far away, or he has made OP modeling a mandatory exercise in all major USAF bases. What do you think? ------------------ Pachy's SDOE stuff perso.club-internet.fr/gledimet

Well Pachy, I did start drawing pictures of airliners at about age 5, so I guess I just grew up with it. I then moved to building models, plastic ones, then balsa ones, then R/C planes, R/C Helicopters, Cars, boats, and then discovered CG and was hooked although I did have a very slow start. I couldn't see modeling just for the sake of modeling (make an airplane mesh then put it in a scene... boring!). OpenPlane was what I have always hoped for as a CG fanatic. To make models of whatever I want and then get to go fly/drive them! That's why I'm in this game so much and get thrilled to see something I built actually work and then explode. And having others DL'd it and fly it too... that's just icing on the cake. I'd do it anyways just for fun even if the Net didn't exist. I'm rambling.IP: Logged |

Awright, awright- I know the difference. But if the pioneering work were done on the Mitchell, it wouldn't be a huge stretch to a Marauder is all I'm saying. Jeez! IP: Logged |

Or even some nice onine protection missions of PBY's doing simulated pickups while Germans try and pick off the PBY and the Allies defend. This really opens up some great options for online play. I am really pleased to see the Liberator finally making it to the ranks of the online flyable plane. Historically speaking they were far more common then the 17's, and carried a much heavier bomb load. They were the true Heavy bomber in the USAAF. The load of a 17 is actually that of a medium bomber.... and I personally love the Liberator's lines much more than the 17's. Hooray for us all... ;}------------------ Mirthain=FC= IP: Logged |
