I was just flying in the Albatross and the SE5 and threw in the Zeppelin (which the SE5's ate up rather quickly) and oh my goodness, what a blast! I started the mission with the Zeppelin entering the airfield as the Albs took off, I was in the second one. (actually I just added my Zepp to that SE5 Vs Alb mission in Dover). It just looked so fantastic, all the neat colors and such. Over the Dover terrain this sim is gorgeous! As a WWI sim it's an entirely new animal that is just addicting, cool, fun, etc. I see myself becoming a WWI pilot bigtime now as it's a nice change from what we are so used to in SDOE.My new excitement is forcing me to act. My contribution will be a twin engined WWI bomber, although I don't know what the one I really like is called. It had dual wheels for each main gear and two pusher props (I think). Can someone point me to a good site with tons of WWI airplane pics? The sooner you do the sooner I'll start it... within a few days. F-14 will enter high gear so I can finish it first. Thanks!

Mad Dog here.... I'm sure I speak for Spanky too when I say FANTASTIC!! Ever since the WWI stuff started to take off we have been waiting for a twin engine bomber!
BTW I tried out the F-14 yesterday. That thing was loads of fun but I thought it would have gone faster and it went all crazy with the wings back. Very sweet though. ------------------ -Seperated and independant halves of a genius super-organism who believe that no game will ever satisfy them completely.

PeteI am doing the Gotha GIV. Itīs a huge dual-engine bomber. Itīs a fantastic plane. My first choice about the bomber was the Handley-Page 0-400,a british dual-engine bomber with the same size as the german Gotha. The Gotha was designed when the germans look at the Handley-Page performance. I didnīt model it because I didnīt find the 3-view drawings (good ones). Itīs very good to see you changing to WWI aircraft ( Hey, Sv! ) The Gotha GV is a little different from the GIV (front fuse and engine)but at the distance itīs the same plane. Iīll send to you some screenshots from my GIV . nuum WWI aircraft

Hey Pete, do you have a picture of a gotha? I can take screen shots of any of the planes in RB2. Most of these planes have been modified from when RB2 first came out, to correct some problems with the models.Sax IP: Logged |

Where here is a place you can get some of the rb2 3d Shapes... these can be imported to 3dstudio I dont know if this will help you and any other ww1 plane makers.. but it might http://members.xoom.com/Flybert/shapes.htm Also in the root of that directory Flybert has tons of Paint Schemes for both historical and made up squads that we use in mmp. Also SV metioned not having any terrina for ww1 here are somepics of the work they are doing in rb2 these are winter shots and The Rb2 terrina tiles are in BMP format.. I am not sure they would help You can see and airfield and and a rail road track in this picture. Sax [This message has been edited by T.K. Sax (edited 01-31-2000).] IP: Logged |

TK, that site kicks butt! Thanks for the link. There's even a nice Zepplin in there, a little different from mine but it too could be brought into SDOE.Wow this will really save time by having all these files to use as references, or even just to modify (improve upon mostly) for SDOE! Cool. TONS of stuff! (I have the RB3D CD as well, it's loaded with goodies). Hey, If you want I can easily crank out some observation balloons for you guys to shoot down (WWI types). They'd just be ground objects though (you have that nice Zepp to fly around in ). Shall I whip some together for ya? [This message has been edited by Pete Hawk (edited 01-31-2000).] IP: Logged |

Pete, that would be awesome!!!!But do make it a plane even though it won't move - that way we can have an observer pilot who can defend the balloon and bail out... maybe this can be done as a ground object anyway? What kind of defences did the balloons have? I know they had help from ground AAA, but didn't they have machine guns up there too? This is cool stuff... ------------------ -Sv =FC= WWI in SDOE!

The men in the observation balloons most likely had rifles or small weapons. They were in basket-type boxes like hot air balloons have. The Zeppelins had a gun platform on top of them towards the nose, holding up to 3 machineguns. Larger Zeppelins had an additional gun platform on top of the Zep and near the tail.dauntless851

Sv, I have a book about WWI aces and the Belgian Ballon killer Willy Cooppens. He reports that one day going to kill another balloon he saw far away from him a tiny point near the balloon area. As he get closer he notice that it wasnīt a plane or a balloon. He get more closer and saw that it was a KITE ! He went up fast because he knew that this kite was part of a steel wires barrier !!!!!!He reports too that one day the german put a trap to kill him. The allied inteligence report him about the trap : The germans lift a balloon with explosives !! He went to the site to watch the trap and dive down to it and blow it up. The explosion kill the german high command in the ground that was there to see him to be killed nuum WWI aircraft IP: Logged |
