Another Question. I have attempted several times to move my FS from my drive C to Drive F. I have uninstalled it, then re-installed it on drive F. The problem occures when I try to add the patchs FS 1.0 and FS 1.5. I get a error message stating that it cant not find old file. I reassign the drive to the zip file before I open it. Thanks Again Sun Tzu------------------ Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the thing we cannot change, the courage to change the things we can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of those we had to kill because they pissed us off! Im running SDOE of of drive H no problems. Make sure you put the full path to the fightersquadron.exe in for the patches extraction directory. If you have the game installed to F:\SDOE\ make sure you put F:\SDOE\ in the box, not just F:IP: Logged |

Sun Tzu. If I remember correctly, after you do the fresh install on the new F drive you need to start a game of FS (Fly a plane) then close FS and try to install the patches.The best that I remember is that the file that is refered to as "old file" is not created until the first time you start the game. I maybe wrong though. That was a long time ago. Raider {GS}

Don't forget to change the entryMedia=c:\GAMES\FIGHTE~1\MEDIA to whereever you have move the installation. This is in the sdemons.ini in your fighter squadron folder. Elric

SunTzu, I just tried this myself after reading your post. I just installed another hard drive and tried to install FSSDOE on it and had the same problem. Falck's response is what fixed it for me though. I failed to specify a folder in the D drive directory when installing the game originally and I had the same error when installing the patch. I uninstalled and then reinstalled and specified D:\Fighter Squadron\ and wa la. Everything worked just fine. Then after installing the 1.5 patch, I also experimented and tried to copy my Media folder off my C drive so I wouldn't have to unzip all of my addons again ( since I have another copy of FSSDOE on my C drive and the Media folder has all the addons-like plane packs and Meatwaters sound pack,etc.), but I discovered that I then had to insert the CD to play and the patch was supposed to eliminate that. Hence, "no can do" on just replacing the new Media folder with the old. I just put the D drive's Media folder back and all works again. I do have to put all the addons back next though. Just thought I let you know you weren't alone and if you haven't tried Falck's answer then that might be the problem. AQIP: Logged |

Raider is right - You need to start SDOE once before you can Patch to 1.5 IP: Logged |

OK, OK,.. I guess I am not playing with a FULL DECK. I attempted again to re-install my FS on F drive, I followed the instructions above, and tried to open the game to establish a "Old File" but can not get the disc to read until I install the patch.. so is this a catch 22 ? When I go back to C drive to install it, I have no problems. Here is what I am doing. I have it installed to F:\FS\SDOE then I take my FS 1.5 patch and try to install it to the same file, I get error "Old file not found". ------------------ Stop by and check out Sun Tzu's Officer Club at http://nosuntzu.homestead.com/index.html IP: Logged |

SunTzu, I'm trying to think of what might be going on here. This may be too simplistic- but try a simpler name for your folder on installation like F:\FighterSquadron\ and make sure you include the forward slash at the end. Maybe the forward slash included at the end does something? Who knows but it worked for me. I also did not try and run the game before patching it because of the CD read bug that the patch fixes. On some of our systems, on the original install, that was the BIG bug when the game first came out. Mine was one of them. The 1.5 patch worked fine once I was more careful specifying a folder for the game when I reinstalled on my D drive. Give it another try carefully typing in the folder with both forward slashes. Good luck. Computers--can't live with'em, can't live without'em! AQ

aaaaaaah, I bow to all you GREAT Aviators. I finally got it up and running after following all of your advise. The only problem that I did run into was I lost my 3D driver some how. I downloaded a new one and now it is up and running. I hope to see you all in the sky soon.------------------ Stop by and check out Sun Tzu's Officer Club at http://nosuntzu.homestead.com/index.html IP: Logged |
