About 5-6 month ago, I stopped playing FSSDOE when I realized that my computer was too slow to give adequate frame rate online , or with large missions offline. Now, I just got myself an Athlon (yee-haaa) and I am back!! Back then,I was "Tracer", or "Tracer-FC", but I changed to Kite because of an copycat on the Combasim forum.I downloaded the PP3beta, and I my jaw dropped to the floor when seeing the progress acheived by the FSSDOE community. Back then, I was somewhat sceptical that this really could take off as it has now!!!
Well, the upcoming PlanePack has an airplane selection surpassing EAW, not counting the WWI aircrafts and other Zeppelins coming out of the wood works, plus the pacific A/C and other miscellaneous projects. And on top of that, the contest promises to bring out a whole new crop of aircrafts!
If all those efforts are well coordinated, I think that FSSDOE can be brought back to the forefront.
Maybe one think to thing about: in addition of the excellent online capabilities of FS, we need to enhance the offline play also, so people can get familiar with all the different airplanes and get some decent practice before going online. We need more well designed offline missions. The current trend of organizing them in mini-campaigns is good.
One major gripe about offline missions: All squads should have a briefing. The minimum (and fisrt) info in the briefing should be mision type (escort, sweep, scramble, intercept, attack...) and the type of aircraft flown!!! This would make it much easier to select a mission.
Well. glad to be back, you guys are awesome!!
