Every time I create a mission with Germany as the country, I save it, reopen it to check it and it's changed to Japan!! This messed up my Zepplin mission in the beta I just released and is causing CTD for some. How can this be fixed?IP: Logged |

Pete, I don't think it's the Japan string table. I don't have any Japanese squadrons set up. When I opened your Zepp mission the Zeppelin was assigned to the EAF squadron which happened to be at the top of the list of squadrons in my Mission Editor. The mission editor, for whatever reason, may be assigning the Zepplin to the first squad in the list rather than the one you're choosing.IP: Logged |

Pete, I'm not convinced the table is causing the problem either. Unfortunately a pre-beta was released on the web, and a ton of work has been done on the nations project since then. The team is working on ways to overwrite and otherwise eliminate all traces of the pre-beta release for the 25 or so of you who downloaded it. Please don't take this as an indication of the calibre of our work. We could have been releasing betas for the last couple of days now, but Poodle, Jeeves and I have agreed that instead we will release it when its finished and 100% debugged. In fact, right now there are only 2 relatively minor issues to iron out and it will be posted. I'm sorry you're having trouble with your zeppelin, but again I say I don't think it is the stringtable that is the direct cause.Werner ------------------ Do you support SDOE online? I have to echo Werner's words on this. We have been pretty careful as to what gets released as of late. Some of our work is near completion, but until it's 100% we won't release it, despite what I feel is a pretty good product (not to pat ourselves on the back or anything). As I am getting pretty good at mission making, I opened up the shipped mission for the Zeppelin to see what I could find- for some reason (I still don't know how this could be!)- the Zeppelin and the Ju-88 in the mission had the same squadron name (in my case, Heinkel Rostock Defense Unit- as that one is the first one on my list in the editor). AFAIK- squadrons can't be shared in the game- so that would cause a CTD. So I changed the Zepp to another German squadron and it booted up just fine. So if you're having trouble- just look at the mission in the editor and see what two squadrons come up there- I think that's the fix!! Good luck! IP: Logged |

Werner, no need to take offense. I wasn't implying you guys to shoddy work at all, so don't worry I was just concerned that's all. For some reason though my system likes to keep reverting back to Japan whenever I pick German sides. Strange. IP: Logged |

Pete- None taken. I just felt a decidedly cool breeze coming off of that first post of yours, especially since you sent me your zep beta without requesting it be posted at the BCATP, or requesting my assistance as a beta tester. One thing that I should clear up, I'm probably the most laid back person around here. I get determined to build in OpenPlane and I go go go, but when it comes to "can I do this or that with your models?", do whatever you want. That's fine, it helps spread them around more.As far as beta testing, anyone who asks me usually ends up testing. I'm pretty easy going about that as well. If someone wants something I'm working on before the public gets it, and can offer help then I'm all for it! [This message has been edited by Pete Hawk (edited 01-30-2000).] IP: Logged |

Hi everyone,I've got my exam done and am getting back to work here. Unfortunetaly I released that beta of Japan, but I just wanted to check if it all worked for everyone, and I didn't really think about the consequences. Normally in a 2nd beta, you would just overwrite all the data you gave in the 1st, and do the same in a final version, but since we're not making a 2nd beta and version 1.0 goes in a par file, the beta will overwrite the par file data. But on the other hand I heard only the sounds will go into the par file, so you won't have to deïnstall my Japan, cause the new one will overwrite it all. But now your problem, it's not the problem with the StringTable, but I think with the Japanese squadrons I added. Only squad01 has a Japanese name (Kokutai Tainain) and all the other squads still got the German names, like Tottenkopf and JV44 and things like that. So SDOE always gets very confused between the 2 nations, since their squads have the same name. What you just need to do now is go to your Media\squadrons\Japan folder and you'll see squad01 to squad09. Open squad02 up to squad09 and change the squad names in the ppf files, or even easier, delete squad02 up to squad09. Only squad01 is a real Japanese one. Hope this solves your problem. Pete - That's good to know, but why then did you send me your zeppelin beta? Poodle - I'm going to try and put in all in data6.par, so you may yet have to write a section for the readme about removing the files from that beta.
