Well i'm gonna sound like a whiner here, but i have to get this off my chest:-)

Lately i've been seeing alot of new faces around in SDOE, which i like. BUT, whats up with all the fowl language i've been seeing alot of in the lobby. I'm not saying i'm an angel or nothing, but it just seems like a couple of pilots out there just can't say two words without having to put a four letter word somewhere in there.

I enjoy the time i spend online flying with everyone. But i also enjoy the fact that i'm flying with a group of pilots that are responsible and actually care about the thoughts and feelings of the other pilots that are online with them. Last nite someone was in the lobby using some, shall we say, unwanted language. There are pilots out there that do have children wandering around the house that could come up and read this stuff. This would greatly upset me if my child came up behind me and saw "i'm gonna
B---- slap my B----", Cuz now he/she is going to be walking around the house for the next 2 weeks saying those exact same words.

I hate to sound like a fricking whiner, but all i ask is for a little consideration when flying online. I can understand a cuss word every now and then, but in every sentence.....thats just too much!!!!!

Sry to rant and rave:-)

I agree with you sparky - a couple of weeks ago on our squad night there was an individual in the lobby who thought he had to use the word F*ck in every sentence. It really isnt needed -

The swearing doesn't bother me but if it's driving people away from playing online then THAT bothers me. We barely have enuff people to play as it is.

Take your Teret's medication and just play..

Oh the King would be abashed, at the language that he spoke.
That cussing curmudgeon of a pilot, whose language skills were broke.
He couldn't say one thing, without a word or two.
That would make most mothers, want to fn sue.
We all know his name, yet were afraid to speak.
We don't want a flame war, lasting all next week.
But hey Farmer, tone it down a little will ya!

I couldnt agree with Sparky more. While I dont feel offended, I feel that the lobby and or in the air isnt the place for such stuff. But the way people act is up to them i guess. If you are only capable of saying the same cuss words every other word or two then that just leads me to believe that maybe these people are at the limits of their speech capabilities. Its not just Farmer, which by the way I could care less to hear about your personal life in the lobby, there are getting to be and more people acting in the same manner.

Really it appears the lobby has been taken over by abunch of 4th graders. Sometimes I just feel like leaving and not playing, cause really the fun in the lobby that used to be there has now been replaced by with foul mouthed statements containing useless babble of kids.

You know using foul language now and again is alright, but to make a point that you use it every time you type a sentence is something I just dont care to see.

Along with this, I feel the attitude of these people towards new players is very poor. On more than one occasion, while trying to help newbies, these people end up driving the newbies away. Making them out to be an idiot just for not having the right file or not knowing quite how to play.

This behavior isnt how our community should be perceived by new players and or people playing online for the first time. I'am sure many a newbie after seeing this or being put down have since never returned to play. Its truly a sad thing to see.

Not that anybody gives a sh**, but there is a time, place and tolerable limit for such language and behavior.

Spyder, you need your mouth washed out =P Bad Spyder, Bad Spyder

Thanks everyone:-) I thought i was just being a complainer there:-(

I'm not offended by the use of imprpoer language, I just think there is a time and place for it. The lobby/game isn't that place. Zoycite made better sense of what i was trying to say....Thnx Zoycite.:-)

Tailslide,
I will not stop playong SDOE online, i just might leave that day if i get tired of the langusge. I will keep coming back because i know that a majority of all the SDOE pilots are considerate to everyone else. Knowing that u or Zoy., or Spyder , and so on, will be there keeps me comeing back.

Thankx all for understanding:-)

Mad Dog here.....

We're walking a very thin line here people. On one hand we have our glorious SDOE that we have always had to ourselves where we all knew each other and were considerate and kind (On the most part) to each other and newbies. And on the other we have a whole bunch of new players and people who are not famiar with the attitude of the sim and it's long-time flyers.

The goal has always been to get these new pilots into the sky. We can't have it both ways. With the new people coming in you have to take them as they come. I totally understand the concerns of driving off the ofended because that would just suck we have lost enough pilots as it is.

Has anyone tried talking to the people in the lobby? Most new people (and even some old aces) don't even read the forum. This is all about comprimise. I wouldn't take too kindly to having someone telling me not to swear in the lobby (quite frankly I've heard some really funny stuff in there) but I understand the need for some restraint and would not be offended by asking me to use some judgement.

When I first came to this sim I was absolutely amazed at the level of comradere and willingness to help me out. I still see alot of that around and would like to see it well into the future. The new guys have no idea that we are a diffrent community than ones you would find with Quake and Rougue Spear. We are not all a bunch of miscreant little shitheads who spout profanities around the lobby but we are also not a bunch of crusty old farts who can't apreciate a little bit of potty mouth.

Yeah, we do, of course attempt to talk to them nicely about it. But too many seem to be young and headstrong, and think that by cussing we will treat them like men. I won't leave becuase of some immature antics.... no point. I have too many people here that I consider friends to leave. If it really gets bad, I can and will use the mute in the lobby. No skin off my butt. I will ignore them to the best of my ability, but if that means I host my own games and boot them if they don't behave, well, as they say, that is my right to do what makes me comfortable. I expect some dissention to this, but I do have a right to edit what I see/hear. I don't have a problem with cussing per se.... but this is getting stupid. Now people who didn't normally talk that way, are picking up on it, and think it is funny.
It is sad to see what was a group of Gentlemen, turn into a den of Banality when certain people arrive.

I've always avoided putting four letter words online for the reasons you stated Sparky. Last night was an exception for me and frankly it won't happen again. I have been getting tired of the language too and perhaps my little tirade was to make it painfully obvious how unnecessary it is. I hope I didn't offend too many.

By the way if anyone is putting phrases online you find offensive, mute them. You won't see their inputs. It's not like they say anything useful anyway. To mute double click on the offending party.

Also hosts: if someone is using inappropriate or offensive language in your game lobby don't be afraid to eject them from the game. You are hosting the game and therefore control who plays.

I have never used any cuss words when I've been in the lobby or any other post other than the jokes I have put in Jade's Place. If any of these jokes offend anyone please let me know and I'll stop posting them. I think the jokes are funny, I love telling them and I like to see people laugh and have a good time. If you like I can put a warning on them. I know this is not what you guys are talking about here but it made me think of the jokes I've posted. Cheers.

I have to agree that at certain points it has gotten out of hand. Those who have flown with me know that I generally won't say much...but a couple of times I have felt pushed to the point of anger. Rather than ruin everyone's time by starting a useless discussion, I have left. Last night it came up again, and I have to say that a couple of the individuals we were talking to proved to be gentlemen about it, and I appreciate them for that. My thanks to them.

If there are only 2 or 3 in the lobby/game, it makes no difference; but if someone else joins, then caution should prevail just as it would anywhere in public until a understanding is reached. It isn't so much the use of profanity, it is the occasional over abundance

Anyone who knows me personally thinks that all I do is swear, cuss, and generally go out of my way to be offensive. But only those who know me personally; those who do not will never consider that...unless they force me to it. I try to have some respect and consideration for others...guess I was taught that this is one of the responsibilities inherent in enjoying the liberties allowed by our ( butchered ) Constitution. ( But that is another story, hehehe ).

Spin! I thought that...but admit I wasn't sure...thank you for clarifying. Sometimes in a chat type situation, it isn't always clear....that is why we all need to have a little patience and try to be polite to start. If some can't catch the drift...well, you are right...I used the mute trick last night and it works nicely..

Of course, I AM a bit of a Salty old geezer!!

Himdog,

Don't worry about it! There are places where 'colorful' language and jokes belong, and I think everybody realizes that the bar is one of them. They might not be appropraite in the general area, but you don't put em there - you put em in Jade's and I can't see anybody having a problem with jokes being told there!

It is funny... really most of us here are really preaching to the choir....
Himdog, I go with Stark, no worries. I think that what we are all talking about are the people that cuss every other word. Or there has to be something in every line they type. I don't mind the occasional expletive, but using cuss words (especially the same one) over and over really does get annoying.
