I'm trying to decide whether or not to install windows 2000... has anyone been able to get SDOE running on it? Where can I get Dx7 drivers for my TNT2 card that run on 2000 ?

Curiosity got the better of me.. I pulled out my 'play' hard drive and swapped in my 'work' hard drive with win2k on it (freshly upgraded to the release version). If you're going to do this make sure to copy the driver .inf file into your winnt\inf directory I couldn't get it to upgrade otherwise.

Results:

SDOE 1.5 direct X mode

-loads up fine but in game there is serious disk thrashing and the game quickly ate up all my free virtual memory, approx 500 megs worth in 15 seconds (!)

SDOE Beta 5

-Open GL mode looks about like it does under windows 98, seems to run fine but about half my usual D3D frame rate.

-Direct X mode runs fine (yay!). About 55 fps with default fog settings which is slower than I'm used to under the release version.

Verdict: wait until the patch gets released or you won't be able to run under Win2K.

A tip could be to look at
http://www.reactorcritical.com/download.shtml

They've got the bleeding edge versions of Riva drivers. I use Win2000Pro & TNT1. Haven't tried SDOE yet, but FS2000 works like charm :-)

I just grabbed the newest 36x drivers from your link Alexander and SDOE works now!

Wow! The chat lobby doesn't bog down other programs as bad now. Also I was able to leave mp3 songs streaming and still get 50fps in game. Win2k did a great job of mixing the audio between the mp3 and sdoe it sounded great.

Very nice.

I installed the three buggiest sims of last year (for me anyways). These three were not playable out of the box for me under windows 98.

The Good: Hidden & Dangerous - great game but kept locking up under win98. Runs like a dream under Win2k

The Bad: Nations - I like the offline campaign but the quirky FM gave it a bad rep. Locked up on loading screen in Win 98. Runs like a dream under Win2k.

The Ugly: Mig Alley - Runs under Win 98 but responds to 1 in 3 keypresses. Won't install at all under Win2k. If you could somehow get the files on your machine maybe it would run.
