I was wondering how does one get the 'server' software that hosts on-line SDOE? (like the california one)

Cheers.

It's called Activenet and is owned by Activision. I'm working to find out who the current contact is for Activenet (they've evidently had some turnover there) and will be happy to let you know what's needed for a 3rd party to get the server software.

I do know that Linux is required to run it.

Will Berkley Unix do?

Thanks for the quick reply Michael. Next question, if say a 'third' party ventor put up a SDOE server, would it appear in the SDOE Internet listing?

I honestly don't know if BUnix will do. Activenet is going through some changes at Activision that won't be resolved for a few months (they work heavily on the "Quarter" model over there).

I'm only aware of the server running on Linux and I would guess that the more mundane flavors of unix aren't supported.

At a guess, I would say that a new server would probably automatically show up. We haven't started working with the server side yet though (we will in the next few weeks I expect).

Now, who do I contact at Activision about getting a copy of the SDOE server software?

Cheers.

Spoonman,

Just wondering but I would think the price for that server software would be pretty steeeeeep!

I hope it works out though.

I'm hoping it'll be free. It's software specific for SDOE, not a general server applet.

Spoonman,
I just tried to get the info page but it seems to be down. The root page at say cali12.activision.com used to tell you how to go about getting the server software. It is generic software that allows all acivision games to be played on there that support actinet. Also I believe they only took servers that were in unique locations which kinda turned me off and I decieded the normal places were fine for me. Good luck in your quest and if you don't get an answer soon e-mail me and I will contact my contacts at activision.

Peace

Well then does anyone have any experience in writing server software so we could run our own servers?

I've forwarded your request for info to my contact at Activision. Either he or I will get back to you.
