Get it here... http://members.xoom.com/hawkersop/

It comes with the VF-84 Jolly Rogers (skull and crossbones) and a Super Tomcat scheme.

Instead of touching up the fuselage texture map, I went dof crazy. The gear is about finished now, complete with several moving parts and simulated taxi/landing lights. I also added an animated catapult launching bar, so not only does the plane lower on ALL gears, the little bar folds down. I put leading edge Slats on it. I put a speedbrake on it (just the top part for now), and best of all, the AI flys it well.

Read the readme, and put the included keyboard.inp file into your main SDOE directory.

Oh, if you want to do some serious textures for it let me know and I'll send you a large template pic.

I made a minor change to the SuperTomcat tif, so download the other zip file also if you want to use it.

Here are the keys to use, but still put the inp file into your main dir, or just add these manually. If you want to use other keys, it's easy, just type in the one you want over one of these :P

cmdCanopyToggle = Q
cmdCatapultToggle = C
cmdSpeedbrakeToggle = Shift S
cmdWingsweepToggle = W
cmdSlatsToggle = Alt F

I just realized the mission that came in the zip has my F-15 in it too, and will probably crash the game if you try it. So go into the mission editor and just change the F-15s to some other type. Sorry bout that.

I'm finally very close to starting the cockpit for it

I'm uploaded the F-15C I have now to the same folder mentioned above. This way you can fly these jets against each other. The F-15C is not quite as far along (building wise) as the Tomcat, so you've been warned.

I'm no jet-jockey, but having said that I am delighted with what I have seen of Pete's work on the F14.
Alot of attention to detail. I can see why Pete brims with enthusiasim, and pride when he posts about his babies.

The Tomcat really looks great Pete!

Keep up the good work!

Just finished flying the F14 for a while against the F15.. wicked, handels like a dream, one thing though Pete, can you raise the target sights, or lower the cannon, they are firing very high so the sights don't help really, for now I just gave the cannon a load more ammo so I can follow the tracer.. lol
oh, almost forgot, the plane seems uncontroleable with the wings swept back, can this be fixed? I know it's a beta version, but then, you want feed back right

Nat, yeah, the Dof needs more tweaking for the swept back position of the wings (esp the right one). About the sights, I'll check it out.

Have fun with it! (them) The F-14 is my favorite plane. I just love the way they look both flying and sitting. Now if I could just figure out catapult launches. I have the plane, I have a working catapult on a carrier, but I can't get the two to "grab" each other and fling the Tomcat from the ship.

I'll keep trying. If I get it to work... WOW would that rock!

Heya Pete- I saw the site- it brought back some memories...I still use your runway references when I'm making missions--on an aside- did you ever start any work on doing the Rhineland Airfields...and if not-how did you do it with Africa and Dover- just drive a plane around every single field and get the runway headings that way?

OK- enough babbling-- on to Tomcat comments. First off- in me you had a hard sell. In my teens, I knew everything there was to know about the jets-then in my 20's when I found out some of each of my grandfather's exploits in the WWII I began to notice those beauties from that war. Even now- I'll run past a chopper or jet to get to a warbird from WWII.

As the scene opened up- my first thought after seeing the Tomcat (beautiful, by the way!) was- Hey I don't have to feel guilty about using the HUD anymore ...LOL. Then as I was coming in for a landing after shooting down an F-15 (that took a while- these two planes can turn pretty well)- I had a flashback. About 7 years ago, I was on a three month civilian assignment at NAS Miramar in San Diego where I was doing field research on some birds out there. Anyway- as I was coming in for a landing in your plane- I remember standing in a field at one end of a runway watching the Tomcats fly low over my head and seeing those twin engines dim as they neared touchdown. Just gotta say that's pretty powerful stuff when you can invoke memories like that just from flying someone's plane- so in Bob Hope's words,Pete- Thanks for the memories.

Hey Pete, I was just lay in bed here, and had a real stupid idea.. it goes sumthin like this...

You want AAM's for your lil F14 and 15 I'm sure, but I reckon you're sat wondering.. how do I get them to track the target, well, I aint sure, but I reckon you'll find the answer by taking a flack or AAA gun apart... they track targets don't they, could you not use the method that Flack guns use to track their target as guidence on a stabilised rocket, add a motor to a flack gun and wouldn't it do it's best to chase after a target? dunno myself lol, but thought it'd give you some ideas on making an missile for your birds

No problem Jeeves, glad you are enjoying it Oh, I just flew it in Overcast skies and wow, as it flys over the tower it looks REAL (in tower view).

Nat, GREAT IDEA! I'll tear one apart ASAP!! Thanks! You could win several gold stars for that suggestion!

Pete -

If you get that to work, it could have great ramifications towards a seeking torpedo too- once the water is fixed. Nice idea, Nat!

Thanks for sending those birds Pete - you done yourself proud again! Little work on convergence, the sweep-back DOFs and its one of the best. The gear crouch is very neat, but the canopy is terrific!

Hehe, thanks for the help on that there canopy RT! Couldn't have done that without ya!

Regarding the sweep dofs, I just aligned them perfectly, leveled the wings as much as possible and guess what? It STILL veered left in swept back mode and got the shakes (until ailerons break off) around 100 knots LESS than before. So it's back to ground zero. I did adjust the sweepback to about half, and with trim applied I, and the AI could fly it. But darn it I want full sweep!

Anyone take a stab at that yet? Trying to fix the FM? I also increased the wing area and that didn't help either.
